Sounds like your plants don't know whether they're coming or going:-)) My bromeliads are all late flowering this year. The flowers last a long time so will be here for Christmas.

The veggies are going great with all the rain. We will be eating tomatoes before long and are enjoying the lettuce and the last of the cauliflower and cabbage. At the hardware/garden centre yesterday we bought cucumber and a rhubarb crown.

Morning Tec, Amanda and Sue...

I can see I will have to get out in the garden more - I did purchase some new secateurs yesterday and put them to use when I got home. Trouble with me is one mention of going somewhere and I am off out, otherwise I might miss out in having lunch at a café.
I will have to get my SIL to come up from Wellington to sort me out. He has made a lovely job of their place. He is out there early morning before he takes my daughter and work and he goes off to wherever he goes and then when he gets home he is back out there before cooking the dinner.

Hi Sue,

Watch the slugs don't get the veggies.
We have rhubarb, it didn't do much the first year, but after that was very productive - we usually give lots away.

Hello all. We had rain early last evening, but everything seems to be drying out this morning. Not much sun though.

Sue - why don't you tell us what plant you bought yesterday? We know you went shopping! You and Amanda, and Tec are like I was with my gardens. You can't sit and appreciate them for long before you are down there, making improvements - on off to the nursery for yet another addition.

Amanda - our Agapanthus is at its best at Christmas! Many of our main roads and freeways have them in their dividing islands and they do make the road look like it is decorated for Christmas.

You lot are not going to like this but - we have to stop growing them it is just too easy for us. They are everywhere...

"Agapanthus is popular in gardens, but in 2006 was added to the list of plants banned by the Auckland Regional Council. Biosecurity New Zealand was looking to make this a national ban in 2007. The aim was to limit its spread from gardens into native forest. Auckland city is reputed to have over 200 weed species."

Next door to me had them and they just spread like wild fire - so do the Cannas and I am forever trying to curb their habits down one side of our house.

Good morning Berona ...... I like the sound of massed Agapanthus along the road way : )) I have to say I''ve not had much success with growing them myself .
I've put a few new photos of Bella on Facebook , she was very wide awake to day with her big eyes looking about ...lol

We have ( or did have ) two rhubarb crowns on the allotment but OH decided to dig one of them up this Autumn , I grew them from seed .

Good morning Persey .... I hope you don't go to mad with your new secetars ....lol....it's easy to get carried away with such a tool .

Hi all~~
Gardening talk:;))
Like Tec we have a huge Rhubarb crown, from my dad's originally and we literally give it all away, I'm not fussed on it and neither of the children ever did, whilst it's still going strong we pass it on to those who do like it:)

Slugs..A flat tin with beer will get the little beggars drunk and off your plants.lol.. $

Hydrangeas are another plant that is easy to grow here - up North there are hegderows of them everywhere. There are also Bouganvillea hedges dotted around the place or climbing over people's verandahs and fences etc.

We have that many garden centres around the place and many of them have cafés which is a bonus, plus nearly all the do - it - yourself places all have a garden area.

Good Morning Persey, and Berona,
Good Evening Sandie,

I am really miffed now......here I am beside myself with joy, cock a hoop when my one solitary agapanthus bloom appears, and you lot tell me they grow like weeds for you.
But I can grow hydrangeas, red, pink, blue, and white.

Amanda, it was a lovely day until 5 pm, then the rain started and it's still pouring.

No folks.lol.. re the beer and slugs

Know you're kidding me..., just a bit of what you can sneak out hubby's can, he doesn't mind ,it 's he that puts all the hard work into growing the veg!
But you should keep the dog away Sue even if it's small tin.
There was an incident here recently of a dog eating fallen apples that had fermented and he 'got drunk' and had to be seen by the vet. He was OK but the owners had a hefty vet's bill !

Edit.. Mums the word about Joy>lol
