Good evening Linda , I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the " meet " .

Diane , I bet your feet tapped all the way through the show ....lol.....I'm glad you had a lovely time : ))

Tec , did you replant the poor little fern ?

Sue , I like storm watching as well , warm rain sounds pleasant as opposed to the horrid cold stuff we get in the winter : ( I hope you have a lovely sunny day today .

Yesterday it got to around 25 degs. Very pleasant. I think we'll get to that today too - and the sun is shining.

I think Linda was probably talking about silly Aussies and Welshmen, Tec.

"I just sat quietly all afternoon"

Who are you trying to kid Linda?
I heard you were a one woman riot at the meet lol.

Amanda, No sadly I dumped the fern, because they grow everywhere here like weeds, but I do like them in the right place. Got some big ones in my Grotto where I hide.

Tec.

Your name did crop up Sue, but it was not me who mentioned you.

Oh and crazy Norfolk women too - hi Amanda:-))

From our front verandah we can often see the storms coming down from the mountains.

Berona Report 8 Nov 2010 20:43

Good evening/morning all.
Sue - our weather is "similar" this time. We had a 'severe thunderstorm' warning yesterday, so battened down the hatches. Nothing happened until 7pm, when we had a few heavy plops, which increased to rain - for about ten seconds, then stopped. Around 8:45 lightning and thunder led into a downpour which lasted about five minutes. That was it, although more forecast for to-day - at present we have sunshine, warmth, but a grey sky.

Amanda2003 Report 8 Nov 2010 20:46

You can call me crazy by all means Sue , I don't mind but I'm not a Norfolk woman , I live here but I'm not " from " here , having said that I think most folk here abouts except me as a " local " , I've only lived here since I was 11 .....lol

Tec , I love ferns and have a nice selection in my garden but they aren't as lush as Welsh ones , we don't get enough of the wet stuff here .

Good morning Berona ....I hope the sun gets out later for you : )

Are you doing anything in particular today ?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 8 Nov 2010 20:48

Hi Berona. That's amazing how we can live so close and yet get different weather. The thunderstorm here started about 3.30 with huge drops of rain and then suddenly the black skies opened and it rained very heavily on and off for a few hours. The sky is blue with barely a cloud in sight.

Can I ask where you were born Amanda?

Amanda2003 Report 8 Nov 2010 20:54

Sue , I was born in Waltham Cross , Hertfordshire . Mum and Dad decided to move us all when I was about four to the East coast , we spent a few years in Lowestoft , which is in Suffolk then moved again to a town a few miles from there , over the boarder in Norfolk.
My OH on the other hand is very " local " indeed .....lol

Good Morning Berona,

Hope you are well this morning , and you get some sunny weather today. I've got out that woolly nightcap that you knitted last winter for me, pleased to say the moths didn't get it.

Tec.

When you say your OH is very "local" - is that a good or bad thing lol

Amanda2003 Report 8 Nov 2010 21:02

Sue ....neither good nor bad , just amusing really . I started looking into his tree a bit and found that his furthest away ( distance wise ) ancestor was from less than 20 miles away ! My lot are scattered all over the country ( but none what-so-ever from Norfolk or Suffolk ) , his are ALL from here and ........ he is not in the least bit interested !!! lol

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 8 Nov 2010 21:12

Can't get more local than that. My dad's paternal ancestors appear to be from Leeds as far back as I can go - his maternal side from Bristol originally but moved around. Mum's family are mixed up on her maternal and paternal side - Manchester, Devon, London. She couldn't believe it when I told her:-))

Berona

Berona Report 8 Nov 2010 21:14

I found in my research, that the families didn't move around much more than a hundred years ago. Come to think of it, how would they move furniture? Horse and cart for items, limited train services for people!

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 8 Nov 2010 21:19

Manchester , Devon and London ! .....that is quite a bit of distance ...lol

It makes it all the more interesting though doesn't it . I always end up wondering why they made the moves that they made but one will never find the answers I suppose .

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 8 Nov 2010 21:22

I've wondered that Berona , maybe , if they where poorer people then they might have rented furnished places , so their personal belongings might not have been so dreadful to cart about ?

Or , one member of the family branches out on their own as a young adult and that is the one you descend from ? then in later years others move into that same area , I've got cases like that in my tree .

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Nov 2010 21:26

Lots of the miners moved from one coal seam to another as the collieries opened up.The steelworkers seemed to have done the same thing. One branch of my family worked on the railways and I can trace them along the main rail lines

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 8 Nov 2010 21:27

A number of OH's paternal family moved to London for work as I guess a lot of people did and still do.
