How did you trace your railway family Linda? A branch of OH's family came over from Wales with a large family and worked on ships. It would seem there were many families from Wales around the north-east of England.

Just from the bmd's and censuses. Luckily they had numerous children all registered as they moved along the lines. In fact I was amazed to find that one of the brothers lived only a couple of hundred yards from where I am now in 1841. he had a little daughter buried in the churchyard a hundred yards from here in 1842.
Ten years later they had moved on further up the line

My great great grandfather worked on the railways and he and his wife had children in different areas of London before going to Pudsey Yorkshire where they settled until they died. There my great grandmother married and had my grandmother etc. etc.

Hello to all

I've just been reading about the wild weather in Sydney.

Has Berona been affected by it, does anyone know?

Allan

Berona is fine Allan. It appears not to have affected her.

Berona posted half an hour ago Allan, she is fine, she hasn't had much rain

Hello Allan : )) Berona was here just a little while ago so I think that all is ok in her area .

"Good evening/morning all.
Sue - our weather is "similar" this time. We had a 'severe thunderstorm' warning yesterday, so battened down the hatches. Nothing happened until 7pm, when we had a few heavy plops, which increased to rain - for about ten seconds, then stopped. Around 8:45 lightning and thunder led into a downpour which lasted about five minutes. That was it, although more forecast for to-day - at present we have sunshine, warmth, but a grey sky."

Hello Allan - good to see you here. No, I'm not affected - it doesn't rain much where I am. To some degree, I feel that some of the problems which occur in thunderstorms, happen to old homes which have no maintenance until a bad storm causes havoc - then the occupants scream for help from the State Emergency Services.
Hope you and your OH are well.

Editted to say not all problems are through lack of maintenance.

OK, thanks for that. I've only just got on line and haven't caught up with the posts.

It appears that my 'computer' problems, may in fact be due to my modem. When I connect via dial-up everything is fine, albeit slow. When I connect via broadband everything goes chaotic....and even slower.

Hello Berona. It's good the 'hear' that all is well with you.

You will see that my absence has not improved my typing speed or skills.

All is well here although recently diagnosed with a cataract and serious problems with my knee. Will be seeing my (new) GP next week

OH is also having a few knee problems and recently, in Margaret River we represented Australia in the synchronised limping event

It's truly a case on My knee is the root of all evil :0))

Nothing planned, Amanda. I think I'll stay home seeing that we "might" get more bad weather. We so rarely get the weather which is forecast - but it would be my luck to ignore the warning - and get caught in it!
Not much point in driving in bad weather when it's not necessary.

LOL Berona ....it sounds as if you have he same weather forecasters in Oz as we have here , I generally look out of the window and decide for myself what the weather is doing .

Allan , sorry to hear you are having knee and computer problems , sounds like a most unpleasant combination ! I hope they both improve : )

I don't know about Colin. He doesn't live very far from me, but more towards the city. His weather could be different from mine.
Also Sue - a couple of hours south - but more on the coast than I am. She has had heavier thunderstorms than I've had.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Nov 2010 22:19

Allan, I have visions of you and your wife with your knees tied together walking along like children doing a three legged race

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 8 Nov 2010 22:21

I had that vision too, Linda lol

Must be off - just been invited to coffee with my daughter.

Bye to all - be good.

Allan Report 8 Nov 2010 22:24

It could work, Linda.

It's my left knee and OH's right. An xray on my OH's knee did not show anytrhing so she is off to see a specialist. As this guy also does sport medecine and is the only one in the South West the earliest appointment is for next February.
