Sleep well Amanda. The heating has gone off on the timer and it will cool down soon, so I am off to bed as well.

Enjoy your warmth down under, don't blow away Tec.

Hmm now where was I , oh yes on a wonderful beach (sensibly covered in sun cream) walking towards a tall tanned hunk.........

Perse the same is not frowned upon today as it was some year's ago, my youngest was born a number of year's after I got divorced and his father and I had already split up before I realised I was pregnant with him and I have brought him up on my own.
As my ex had a regular contact with my 2 eldest ( his children from our marriage ) my youngest thought of him as a dad and he treated him the same as his own 2 children.

Just one correction Linda. Don't sit on the beach all sun-oiled. Hold the oil in your hand and invite him to do your back! See what THAT brings!!!

I'll keep my top on. I look better that way.

Pleasant dreams all. Have a good day, others.

I am trying to imagine Persey sitting at the computer half dressed. naughty, naughty ... me, that is.
I giggled at her comment a few pages ago about windy Wellington. I also have experienced its wind and it is ferocious. Ever hear of the Roaring Forties that so bedevilled early mariners? Wellington is smack bang in amongst them. Where Persey is, in Auckland, it is much milder. More like Sydney, although we are closer to the equator by a few hundred miles.
Tall dark and handsome? I'll say me too. Not sure about handsome though. I have not asked Miss Denise.
When my sister got married, 2 months after the birth of her daughter, the Reverend prayed for the couple and the children "they will have". Never had any more.
But it is no new thing. In my tree there is a child born 1899, his mother's husband died in 1897. No father in the births index which means no father recorded on the certificate. He died with the same surname so there was no name change. Even earlier, a child born 1886 no father had a war record in W W One under the same name, although his mother married a few years after he was born. She didn't have any other children either.
Secrets? Maybe.

HI DIZZY. Look after yourself.

Good afternoon evening or morning when you all get here.
Colin.

Thank goodness we don't have webcam.

Where my daughter works Colin - she has these massive windows which look out to Wellington Harbour and when there is a storm and it is blowing a gale the windows shake. I must say she is very used to their inclement weather and quite used to making a quick move to safety whenever they have a earthquake tremor which is quite a lot.

Temperature in South Island town of Ashburton (quake area) was 28 degrees today. I think the highest was 30 but was not recorded.

Auckland has been still and boring all day - the sun was there but did not shine through the clouds - it looked like it might rain at times but didn't. It really did not amount to much. In other words phhtt.

Dinner was more exciting - did bacon, eggs and mushrooms and some new potatoes. Followed by a trumpet (ice -cream).

Hello Perse and everyone:-)

We had take away tonight as its cooks night off.

It was rather warm today, in the 30's, there's a storm brewing and rain for the rest of the weekend.

I have an admission to make:-) We didn't marry until after our children were born, my daughter was my flower girl and we were married in our backyard, by my BIL who was a minister.
I suppose, I'm not unlike my ancestors, really - its just it was frowned upon in their time, not so much now!

I would love to know who fathered one of my great grandmothers, as she has unknown father on her birth certificate, spose, I'll never know!!

I hope everyone is well:-))

Berona Report 12 Nov 2010 10:11

I went back to my gr/gr/gr/gr/grandfather who married a Dinah King. On checking her birth, it was notified by Susan King (mother). Couldn't find anything beyond that and even 'experts' advised that Dinah must have been illegitimate, because the Father's name was always used, not the mother's.
As that was the brick wall in that family, I was only able to go little further on that tree. However, after a few years, I came back to it and more information was available on the internet, so I pressed on, and one day, quite by accident, I was checking baptisms and came across Dinah's, giving Susan King as the mother and William King as the father - and their marriage date. They were distant cousins!

My advice is to give that line a rest for a long time and come back later - that's how I've found a lot of info which I couldn't find when I first started researching.

Persephone

Persephone Report 12 Nov 2010 10:18

I do that as well Berona - I was rather annoyed that I could not find my Grandfather's sister's death record - I tried all sorts of spellings of the surname to no avail. The rest were there but not her so thought well one day I will get back to the cemetery down on the east coast and see and left it at that.
Yesterday I was in Papers Past in New Zealand and they keep adding papers and the church gazette of her area mentioned her death, including date and how lovely she was. (probably a bit like me)
I was very pleased with myself.

Persey ~~~~~~~~~~~Hi there Carole.

Good evening / morning all

Hi Colin, Perse,Carole and Berona
hope you all had a good night's sleep and you join us later.

Berona that was a lucky break you had with your gr/gr/gr/gr/grandfather's wife, and to have found the information some year's later must have felt so good.

Perse you too had a lucky break and both these example's will give other's heart when they hit a brick wall, not got far enough in my tree to have had that problem yet.

Will be back later to speak to other's who arrive.

Join later? I'm here NOW!
Good evening to those who are relaxing after a week's work - and good morning to those who might still be having their breakfast. I've had mine, nice and early to-day.
Diane - You are the first researcher I have known not to have struck a brick wall somewhere!.....I always get them once I get back further than 1837 in the English records, and also in the Australian records prior to that era.
