Hello friends - hope you are all well.

Berona - I haven't had breakfast just yet but I'm thinking about it.

All these confessions!! I was only 19 when I got married. I look at photos and I look little more than a child. My parents wanted us to wait until I was older but I thought I was old enough - after all my OH was all of 23 so he was mature enough for both of us:-))

Berona Report 12 Nov 2010 20:25

My mother had me so brain-washed into believing she would KILL me if I told her anything she didn't want to know about! I learned later that it was all an act - she would have supported me in any way I might need if I had needed it.
That might have had something to do with the fact that I never had reason to make any decisions. I was really dumb about a lot of things. After travelling around the world, I didn't come home 'worldly' at all - I came home just as dumb as I was when I left. A lot wiser to how other people behaved, but although I dated, I didn't have a proper boy-friend until I met my OH at 24. I was never placed in the situation that many others were placed in - so how can I say what my deciions might have been? I did feel the benefit of my age (OH was 30) in that we both seemed to know that 'this was it' and married a year after we met.

Good evening everyone.
We had a terribly windy night, I woke up several times because of the noise. luckily all was well in the morning, no damage at all. We are surrounded by very large trees and they have lost their leaves more or less overnight. The smaller tress in the garden still have the leaves, I suppose they were more sheltered.

It is much quieter this evening, I have just been out to an art preview, I will do anything for a free glass of wine lol. One of the local villages has an art group and every year they have an exhibition and the paintings are for sale. They give some of the proceeds to a local charity. I bought two paintings last year, one for a gift and one done by a friend which I kept.
I only bought one this year, that is by someone I know as well. They are very good artists and it is nice to own an original water colour. On the way home we walked past the posh art gallery and the pictures in there are no better quality, but incredibly expansive.

At the risk of sounding like I am showing off - I don't mean to - I have to say that our weather at the moment, is crazy.

A week ago, I couldn't get to sleep because my feet were cold, so next night I wore socks (in late Spring?!!) and now, last night, the temp was 21c at 1am and I awoke because I was hot! Yesterday reached 31 here and didn't cool down much overnight. I sat up and read a book for two hours, then tried again, and slept for about three hours. That's how I got here so early to-day - and we still have a couple of weeks before Summer starts! Spring was slow in starting, but has now hit with a vengeance.

Hello Linda:-)) Glad there's no damage to the garden or house. Always a worry when there's strong winds.

I agree Berona - the weather is crazy. It got to 27 here which wasn't unpleasant but it was very humid.

Linda - is Arncliffe Yorkshire near Otley?

evening/morning Linda and Berona.

Berona the only reason I haven't hit a brickwall yet hun is I have only gone back to my gr/ grandparent's on my father's and my gr/gr/ grandparent's on my BM side and I have got most of BM side from another member on GR and the information I have on father's side was provided by his cousin mainly.

Linda glad to hear none of the tree's by your house have blown over hun, thank god there was little damage around my way but like you I was woken a few time by the noise.

Hello Everyone,

Well we survived the night. Only slight damage, a few dislodged slates above the bathroom, so will have to see the village roofer, but I expect he will be very busy dealing with more serious damage in the village. One branch of my palm tree was ripped off. Anyway we got off lightly considering there were gusts of 91 mph recorded in the area, an d quite a few trees came down.

Linda I also collect watercolours. The ones I have are mostly old ones.
Two are by a known pre war Japanese artist.

Berona you have very high temps now, maybe you are in for a very hot summer - warmer here today at 11C.
Hope you have a cooler night - I am wearing the woolly nightcap you knitted for me last winter.

I am glad that your house was relatively unscathed Tec. On the local news it showed a car which had been crushed by a tree, the woman inside had been impaled on a branch, sadly this morning she had died. That is really awful

Berona

Berona Report 12 Nov 2010 22:15

Good evening Tec - I, too, was glad to know you came through the bad weather OK. That was very sad about the lady impaled on a branch. Best not to go out in bad weather, but sometimes we have no choice.

I keep wanting to drop off to sleep to make up for what I didn't get last night - but I have an appointment later this morning, so I am getting up and ready - in stages, so I won't go to sleep. Dtr is driving, so I won't have the worry of driving whilst I'm sleepy!

SueMaid Report 12 Nov 2010 22:16

Thanks for the info. Linda - as you can imagine I'm up my tree:-))

Poor woman - I feel for her family.

Glad you haven't had too much damage Tec. I hate wind as I've said before - so destructive.

Hi Diane - glad you're ok.

Last night we went out for dinner at a restaurant at our local little airport. They serve lovely food and they had a couple of old bi-planes so OH was happy watching them take off.

Today OH is making a lot of mess - and noise - replacing the tiles on our doorstep. One was cracked and another has come loose so he decided to redo all the tiles.

I think I've found my 5 x great grandfather:-)) I take it these towns aren't too far from Leeds and that people would've gone to Leeds from these villages for work?
