Did you take your OH to the lunch Sue?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 14 Nov 2010 21:22

Yes I did Linda. He enjoyed it too as he knows quite a few people who go to these do's. Actually the husband of one of the committee members comes from Redcar so they always have plenty to talk about.

I have been to Redcar many times, it isn't quite what it once was

Good evening Amanda and Linda. Good morning Sue.
Yes, grey and humid, but still not wet yet here.

Where is everybody?

Good Evening Linda,
Good Morning Sue,

It was a nice bright Autumn day here too, a bit chilly. I wanted to plant some bulbs, but when I went into the garden the ground seemed quite damp, and not feeling like grovelling round in the mud and the cold I went indoors again.
Instead I made a huge pile of my clothes ready to go to the charity shop, and another pile only fit for the bin.

We did have the most fantastic sunset across the bay this evening

Good Morning Berona,

Hope you are well this morning,
Tec.

Linda, I only very very occassionally throw away my clothes, it is quite a wrench. A chap gets attached to his clothes, and hates to part with them. I looked at one very good quality cashmere overcoat, and realised that the last time I wore it was in 1995 to my father's funeral. It had lived in a plastic bag since then - anyway it was time to say farewell - I do have two others that are never worn, except to funerals.

I am well, thanks Tec and I hope you and the duchess are too?
Linda - I think Tec is expecting to get clothes for Chrissy presents - am I right, Tec?

I would like to have had a 'full' sleep, but the humidity caused me to half-wake, feeling sweaty - but too sleepy to think of throwing the covers down and using only a sheet. I seemed to wake like that a few times, then didn't feel like I had been asleep by the time morning arrived.

SueMaid Report 14 Nov 2010 21:47

Wow - I can never get my OH to throw away clothes.

Linda - my OH says it's not the same as it was when he was a boy but he says that about Stockton too.

Sorry Berona - good morning to you. Is it raining where you are? It is here.

Have you noticed Berona that Tec keeps mentioning the knitted hat you made for him last year. Do you think he is angling after getting a new one as a Christmas present?

Berona

Berona Report 14 Nov 2010 21:58

Not yet, Sue - but there is a 'damp' feel in the air

Linda - I did make it nice and long so that he could wrap it around his neck as well so perhaps he has been using it a lot. Also, it is pale blue. He might want a different colour.

Tec - just say so, and I'll start work on another one. Name your colour.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Nov 2010 22:00

We are fine thanks Berona. I did treat myself to a new shirt, jumper, and jeans yesterday. I prefer clothes in plain colours, no stripes, patterns ect, and won't wear anything that has words, or manufacturers logo's on it, except for jeans that always have manufacturers name on the back.

The knitted hat Berona made me is of such fine quality it will last me forever, so I have no need of a new one.

Sue, I think many places in the UK are not the same as we remember them, sadly. I suppose it's called progress, but not often.

If Tec doesn't need a new hat, perhaps you could knit bed socks instead Berona

SueMaid Report 14 Nov 2010 22:08

It isn't progress as such on the estate in Stockton where my OH lived, Tec. Unfortunately he was very upset to see his old house with boarded windows and the garden now non-existent. The whole area seems to have gone down-hill. It was a new estate when he moved there with his parents.

Tecwyn Report 14 Nov 2010 22:27

Sue it grieves me to say that so many places have gone the same way. The last time I visited the town where we used to live I was appalled to see how run down it had gone, with lots of boarded up shops etc.
Hopefully things may turn around again, and prosperity and some pride will return to these places. I hope so.

Oddly the places were my parents were brought up are now smart commuter villages for the large towns. In their day they were mining/mill villages. All the places I lived in as a child are more or less the same, except the houses look smaller, but then I was smaller,so that explains that

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 14 Nov 2010 22:41

That's true Linda. I well remember visiting my Gran's house about 10 years ago. My memories were of a very high mantel and an enormous piano and stool. So high I had to be lifted onto it. Of course I was only 3. I couldn't believe when I went into the living room that they could have had a piano in there - it was so small.

I must be off for the day so I'll say bye to you all. Take care.

~~~~~~to all looking in.
