Just popping in to say that I am still in the land of the living, I have just been busy all evening.
I wondered what all the cussing was, obviously Berona.
Amanda i hope you have brought birthday cake for all of us.
We have a bird bath on the patio, but the poor birds have been confused for th last couple of mornings because the water has been frozen

Hello Tec ,
I had built up quite a regular bunch of feathered visitors to my garden , then about three years ago the neighbours moved in . I calculated that they had twelve cats !! I soon got rid of the big bird table ( that had been my Mums ) , it seemed to cruel to lure them into their deaths : ((

I think they have downsized considerably now , so I can risk a few fat balls hung high in the trees .

Hello Linda,

I hope you have stopped being busy now as it's nearly bedtime.
We haven't had a frost so far this year, but as I said earlier there is snow on the mountain tops.

Amanda, 12 cats?

I wonder where Diane has gone, I hope she's ok, and Sue has vanished too.

Tec.

I am still busy Tec, but will have to stop to go to bed soon.

Amanda2003 Report 15 Nov 2010 23:11

It was very tasty cake : )) But Daisy was somewhat confused by the candles as they where the ones that keep re-lighting ....lol

Perhaps Sue is doing Lunch again ? or some such event ? ; )

Yes Tec , 12 cats ( but she did deny it when I confronted her ) , the woman next door is a bit of an odd one . She was breeding puppies and kittens at a ridiculous rate but thankfully I believe she has had all her animals neutered /spayed now .

You need to stop whatever it is, to unscramble your brain before bedtime.

I am off to bed now too.
Sleep well Amanda, Linda,
Enjoy your day all Down Under,

Goodnight,
Tec.

I hope Daisy had a lovely birthday Amanda - nothing like a caterpillar cake to help celebrate.
We had a spider cake for my daughter when she was about 8 - the legs were made of licorice straps - and one child came and asked me if it was okay for her to have a licorice strap - she was very polite and I said yes sure. With that she promptly took all eight and they went home with her. I am not sure what her mother made of it - or perhaps she secreted her stash away to eat whenever.

Pam - no the child was not disabled - I thought maybe she was deaf but she turned around to look at the plane when it was making a noise and she was facing the other way. I watched her later and whilst no emotion - she was otherwise normal.

Obviously Linda needs tiny skates for the birds - action man or Barbie ones perchance.

Yesterday I was very pleased to notice that the price of some veges had dropped and broccoli was under $1.00 a head. I also bought a punnet of strawberrytoms - I had not seen them before - 'the tomato that think it's a strawberry'... they have a strawberry shape to them. Had a couple of raw ones on my toast this morning and they were similar in flavour to our excellent truss tomatoes. They were grown here in Drury NZ.

Cheers Persey xx

Berona

Berona Report 16 Nov 2010 06:55

Well, I love cats (and dogs). I have had them for my entire life - with the occasional 2 and only had 3 for a short period of time when we acquired a kitten not long before our old cat passed on.....but 12??. I think a person has to be weird to have that many. I can imagine how the place must smell. I suppose they use the garden (and the neighbour's garden) as a toilet. Trays would be useless for that many.
And what about food? To buy enough for twelve, would be quite expensive - and I won't even mention vet's fees.
If they are all neutered, it would help alleviate the smell - but would also be expensive. Here in Oz, they would not be allowed to keep that many - unless on a farm. Certainly not in the cities. The RSPCA usually reduces the number and takes the remainder away.Strangely, it is the people who say they "love them so much, they can't part with them" who have the animals looking malnourished. What kind of love is that?

Carolee

Carolee Report 16 Nov 2010 07:38

Hi Berona and everyone:-))

That's not love, Berona, I would say its an obsession of some kind and not a very healthy one, especially for the poor cats.

I do really love animals, and birds, too!!!

Tec, how is Lanto? Ive learned a new word, thanks to you, every time I see something in Welsh, I have to look up the meaning!!
iechyd da, so could you help me with the pronunciation, please:-)) Nos da:-)

Carole, who should be washing dishes:-)) xxxx

Berona

Berona Report 16 Nov 2010 09:06

Forgot to mention that I love birds too and that's another thing - some cats hunt, others don't bother - but they will if they don't get enough to eat.

I also forgot to say that here, people can have more cats and dogs if they are registered breeders - but then, they usually have properly constructed cages (as per some Councils' specifications) with extra plumbing, etc.

Pamela Report 16 Nov 2010 19:24

Good morning all (and evening/night to all up top)

We don't have cats here because of the birds. I love cats but I don't like their hunting habits. I hate the way the disable something they've hunted and then play with it. That is so cruel.

We sometimes get the odd feral cat in this area but so far not on my property. They'd get short shrift from me. Then there's the dogs that people let loose because they don't want them any more and don't take them to get put down. I still think humans are the cruelest of all the species.

Today's forecast is for showers, tomorrow for thunderstorms, so I'm staying home. I do have to go out on Friday to the chiropractor then on Monday I'm off to Brisbane for the day. I'll have to be up at 3am, have breakfast, drive to airport and catch the 6am flight. The meeting starts about lunchtime so I don't know what I'll do to fill in the time. I suppose I could go and help them set up the room for the meeting. Then my flight home leaves at 6.40pm and gets in to Cairns at 9pm. Another 1 hour drive home and I'm sure I'll be more than; happy to see my bed.

To top it off, the weather people are forecasting thunderstorms for Sunday and Monday.

Berona, yes, I agree. That area is a fairly well to do one. Has it's quiet millionaires, I know from experience.

I remember when Barclay road stopped at the creek where the bridge is now. That was the boundary of my uncles dairy farm.

I do get back there fairly frequently when I go to Sydney.

I've got to say that the biro and the list is a great idea. I always make a list. But can anyone suggest what can be done so that you remember to take the list with you?? That's my problem.

Good morning to you Pam , I hope you enjoy your " at home " day : )

I write lists for shopping all the time and , like you , quite often leave them on the kitchen table ....lol ..... I'm often spotted in the local shop with a blank expression on my face trying to remember what I went in there for !

Hello Berona , Persey and Carole .

Regarding the neighbour and the 12 cats . Carole , you hit the nail straight on the head . She suffers from some sort of " collecting " problem . Her husband did have a moan about it once , apparently it used to be rabbits that she " collected " before they moved here .

Berona , I can't begin to imagine how bad their house smells , she used to let the cats out in shifts I think , it was as if she had " doubles " of some cats ( as in , each pair having very similar markings ) , so it only looked as if there where eight but I had noticed the subtle differences .
At least the none stop breeding has ceased and I'm sure the numbers have reduced considerably .
I don't consider her to be an animal lover : (

Persey , I do hope the little girl with the licorice legs didn't eat them all one after another ! lol

~~~~~ to Diane , sorry we missed each other last night but I'm pleased to had a less painful day yesterday : ))
Good morning/evening everyone.
Sorry I missed some of you yesterday. I needed to be out fairly early and didn't get to talk to you all.
Today is gloomy again. It's obviously rained overnight and looks like there's more to come. Ah...just opened the blinds and it's raining:-( The grass is growing so fast and the weeds but it's too wet to do anything about it. The garden starts to look neglected very quickly.
Good morning Sue .....sorry to hear it looks as if your in for another wet one : (
I opened the curtains this morning to see thick frost all over the garden , we don't usually catch an early frost as we are so close to the coast .
It was however a bright sunny day ( even though somewhat chilly ) , we took the dogs for a lovely walk along the beach , I found three carnelians to add to my collection , OH says we shall have to put the tumbler on soon to polish them all .
