Hi Everyone,

We had snow this morning, but only a light dusting, melted off the roads by midday, but thick on the hills and mountains.
Forecast for more snow tomorrow, so I went to do the supermarket shopping just in case. It's a 20 mile round trip to the shops on bad roads, so I didn't want to chance leaving it.
Got sprayed by the road gritter on the way home, so the roads won't be icy.

Hope everyone is having, or had, a good day.

Tec..............10pm.

Amanda - Only you have answered me so far. Your use of the word "generally" reminds me that these dates were drilled into us when we were at school and unchangeable. To us, 1st September is the first day of Spring, even if it is still snowing down south and there are fire and/or floods in other parts of the country.

Yes, it is quite warm already (9am) so it's another day for possibly reaching 29/30 where I am. I have had to put the aircon on in the afternoons this week and leave it on until after sundown (approx. 8pm). Once the sun has gone, everything cools down.

I have been out of the thread looking for a way to contact GR about the page numbers. "Contact Us" is conspicuous by its absence.
I even went out to GR's FB but it seemed to be comandeered by others on another subject - and I couldn't find where to make a comment.

Good evening from the snowbound north.
Berona, it said on the news that this is the earliest time winter has started for seventeen years.

I hope you do get a rest Diane and not extra work

This one is specially for our Colin.

Happy Birthday! Hope yours is a good day.

Berona, I'm sure there must be "Official" dates for the start of seasons in the UK, but I'm not aware of these dates.
Amanda had it right as to what most people regard the seasons to be here.

Tec................10-12pm

Good evening Tec and Linda .

Tec , I'm pleased to hear you have got your cupboards filled , I don't like the sound of your difficult roads very much , well , not in winter weather anyway ....lol

Linda , have you got lots then ? I hope your feeling better this evening and that you haven't succumbed to " man flu " .

Berona , I don't think it has ever been that " strict " here on when a season starts and finishes ..... our weather is far to unpredictable I suppose ?
You've got me worried about the shrinking thread now , perhaps if we finally get back to page one , we might get sucked into a GR black hole and reappear in an alternate universe ! Yikes

We do have a fair amount of snow Amanda, it is causing all sorts of problems on the moor roads a few miles away

I have had a bit of a lazy day today, just as well as my brain is only functioning on half speed. I will survive.

I am currently stringing monkey nuts on cotton before I add glitter to them and I must varnish my sausages in the morning

Happy Birthday Colin - break out the champers and little nibbly foods.

Hello Linda - are you feeling ok or as the cold taken hold.

I've been up my family tree investigating - would you believe - my 8 x great grandparents. I have found their wills which confirms the time of their deaths. On a whim I've contacted 10 people on here who have them on their GR trees and I had an almost immediate answer from a lovely lady who has already filled in a couple of gaps. The monarch at the time of their births was Charles 1 which I find incredible.

That is good news about your tree Sue.

I am fine I have also been taking chocolate sweets out of their wrappers and redoing the wrappers, it all seems logical to me

Sue ....OH watches as much Si-Fi as he can possibly watch , I must absorb the jargon as I'm sitting here on the pc ......lol

Berona , regarding your dates and seasons query , it made me wonder , so I googled and found this piece of info ;

The Met Office use the following dates to come up with Monthly averages for Weather data .
1 st March - 31 st May = Spring
1st June - 31 st August = Summer
1st Sept - 30th Nov = Autumn
1st Dec - 28th / 29th Feb = Winter

I didn't know this before today .........lol
