I forget to comment on sausages. Many years ago as a callow youth I went off to the Easter show at what was then the Sydney Showgrounds. Now Fox Studios and theme park, alas.
Anyway, in the meat and livestock pavilion there was this bloke demonstrating how sausages were made. "Only the best meat etc etc. Yes, right. But what really got me when he added an ingredient with the words, Now we add the protein." As a youth I thought meat was protein plus fat. Now as a professional chemist including time analysing food I know he meant some chemical that boosted the protein content, as measured by the official test method. I do find the kind of sausages we get from the supermarket and even the butcher are too spicy.

Colin - Belated Birthday Greetings to you, it is only now Friday here. I wonder if you had been born in the UK, would you be a day younger?

When I was very young I lived near a sausage factory - the stench was awful. I was once sent there by a shopkeeper to collect sausages, the inside was disgusting and put me off sausages for years.

Colin - it's good to know your sister is taking to the computer. I think it's a great way to keep in touch. I have only two sisters-in-law left, one in the UK and one in Newcastle, NSW and over the years, we were drifting apart with only one or two letters a year - or just a note in a Christmas card. Their children taught them how to use computers, and from then on, we have kept contact every few days. It's so easy to make a comment and send it off, then go on with something else. No need for settling down to write a long letter (and that's something I could never get around to) and we have become closer too. Also, we don't have to wait to have copies made of photos - just attach it to an email and send it. I'm so glad that I've lived in this age of communication.
My dtr also makes sure we communicate at least once every day - if not multiple times - we have conversations by email. I know it's her way of checking on me. She gets a little paranoid when she reads of old people who die and are not found for a long time. That certainly won't happen to me!

Since doing this genealogy lark I have been in touch with all sorts of distant relatives and whenever I go to a funeral people start talking family trees.
With my great great grandfather having six children in his first marriage and eleven in the second I am not short of history. His second wife was one of thirteen children. It's no wonder that when we got this book with a lot of the family history done that we found that my father's next door neighbour turned out to be a relative.

Hello anyone who looks in.

I've had a wonderful day today. Firstly we went to the markets and bought fresh strawberries and cherries - so much nicer and cheaper than our local greengrocers. Then we sat and had coffee before going home. I then spent hours up my tree entering baptisms, marriages and deaths to my tree program. OH made lunch - and fruit salad for after tea - and kept the cold drinks coming while I worked to my heart's content.

It's 6:45 pm here and looking a bit thundery. Some good rain overnight would be good as long as the rain doesn't make for a humid day tomorrow. Never happy are we?

We've got oddles of rain down here, Sue. I just looked outside and the river is flowing quite rapidly. You are right, though, we are never happy!

We had to vote today in our state elections. As I was leaving the poling station, I offered my umbrella to a poor guy standing there in the rain. He declined, saying, his was in his car. I think he was maybe savoring the rain, as it probably wont last - who knows!

Television is turned off here and on the radio they are playing an old song about rain - must've been done in the 1930's or 40's. I didn't hear what it was called - all very swing type music - now it has changed to jitterbug type. I can type in time to the music.

It looked rather cool here tonight but I think the rain - 24 degrees today will hold off for another day or so.

I am glad that you enjoyed your day Sue. I had better get my act together and go to the market. We had lots more snow overnight,so it won't be quite the same experience you had.

One strange thing about the thread is that the opening wording seems to have changed. When I am on the chat page and can see all the threads, I see ours and under each thread,you can see part of the opening post. Ours used to say "yes it's blatant discrimination:))
Now it says

That is so odd and so wrong.

Just popped in to see if anyone is around.
I see that our page number has gone forward from 1365 to 1368. I did ask GR to fix that and to return the time of posting to hrs:mins. Their reply was an assurance that they will consider all suggestions when making improvements in future. Whether that means they would fix the page numbering or not, I'm not sure. In fact, I'm not sure what it means.
Yes the opening wording changed a few days ago, now it's changed again.

Still quite warm here but no sign of rain. I had my aircon on since before lunch and only turned it off after sundown - about an hour ago.
