G'Day Berona,

Hope you are well today.

Still absolutely freezing here. The wind is changing direction overnight, from the North East, to a Westerly direction. Further snow is forecast for us, coming in from the West, so I went off to the supermarket this afternoon and stocked up just in case.
We won't starve to death, even if we freeze to death. Nice and warm in this room as we have a fire, and central heating, so long as we keep the door to the room shut.
The rest of the house feels cold even though everywhere has radiators on.
Temp' at the moment minus 6 C and dropping fast. Slightly more inland it was minus 15 C last night.
Much of the UK is at a standstill with roads and airports shut.

Tec...........9-05pm.

Good morning/evening to all. Hope you are all well and keeping warm. It's miserable here unlike where Berona is. Overcast and looking like rain.

I haven't read back too much but I do hope all goes well with the Duchess Tec and that your daughter is well Diane.

Amanda - I do know what it's like when siblings argue especially if you're caught in the middle. I'm sure they'll sort it out before long.

Berona Report 2 Dec 2010 21:29

Hello Tec and Sue. So glad to see you back on deck, Sue. What I said before about the weather doesn't apply to now. In the last half hour, the clouds have rolled over and the sun has gone, although still trying to push through.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Dec 2010 21:33

Hi Berona - thank you.

I can't believe how much rain we've had over the last few days. We've had a some flooding on roads in our area making driving conditions very difficult.

Good Morning Sue,
I hope you are feeling better today - you were missed - but we all behaved ourselves in you abscence sp.
Maybe the sun will come out for you and Berona later, I hope so.

Tec.............9-35pm

Berona

Berona Report 2 Dec 2010 21:37

We have had the rain too, although it has been light, but consistent until yesterday afternoon. Consistent rain is unusual for us. Everything outside is now looking dry again, but who knows?

How are you, Sue. Are you better now?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Dec 2010 21:52

Hi Tec. I don't believe you behaved yourselves - that would be out of character.

Yes I'm a lot better now thank you. Still tired and with little appetite but getting there. As the doctor said - you have to let these things run their course but he did give me an injection to stop the nausea thank goodness.

Sue we really did behave - probably because Linda wasn't here lol.
Glad to hear you are a bit better today, maybe you ate something that didn't agree with you.
I have a lousy head cold and streaming nose at the moment, but given the weather that's not surprising.

Tec...............10pm.

SueMaid Report 2 Dec 2010 22:06

Oh dear Tec - is there anything worse than a head cold to make you feel thoroughly miserable. Hopefully it won't last long and you'll be feeling much better soon.

Berona Report 2 Dec 2010 22:10

Take care, Tec. We don't want you getting sick too. Keep warm
Sue - sounds like you had a nasty bout of something. Hope you are right back to normal very soon.

Does anyone know anything about ebooks? I see them advertised when I look at the book sites, but I don't understand how they work - and are they any good? I gather that you have to have an attachment for your PC and you download the book - but does that mean that you have to read it from your screen? Where is it stored? or do you have to print it off. I can't see the advantage in staring at the computer screen to read it, can you? - and you can't take it to bed with you to read there - or can you?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Dec 2010 22:17

Berona - I've heard of e-books but I know nothing about them. I wouldn't read from a computer screen personally. I like a proper book that I can take anywhere.

Here you go Berona

"An electronic book (also e-book, ebook, digital book) is a text and image-based publication in digital form produced on, published by, and readable on computers or other digital devices. [1] Sometimes the equivalent of a conventional printed book, e-books can also be born digital. The Oxford Dictionary of English defines the e-book as "an electronic version of a printed book,"[2] but e-books can and do exist without any printed equivalent. E-books are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices. Personal computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books"

That's how I feel Sue. I'm just wondering what the advantage is.

Tecwyn Report 2 Dec 2010 22:26

Berona,

There was a thread up recently, I think by Ann in Glos about this subject.
Apparently as I understand it, you download books onto a gadget called a "Kindle" I think.
Ann in Glos seems to know all about it.. I think she has one.
Far too technical for me lol.

Good evening Tec and morning Sue and Berona

Sue I'm glad you feel a bit better today and hope you are soon fully recovered, and hope the rain soon goes and you have your sunshine back.

Berona sorry to hear you are also having horrible weather and hope you get the sunshine soon hun.

Tec you poor thing, it is very miserable having a head cold and a runny nose, keep warm and try not to have to go out in the back so many time's and when you do make sure you have that hat on that Berona knitted for you.

I have just got in from visiting my daughter, I waited 3/4 hr for a bus and was frozen to the bone by the time I got to her's, it took me over an hour to get warm and my hip has been horrendous since about 2pm and is just now easing off as I have took some pain killer's.

Berona Report 2 Dec 2010 22:30

They seem to cost less than the printed book, but need an attachment which costs nearly $200. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to read a whole book from a mobile phone! And how about storage? You would need to have a big storage area on the PC to cope with the same as a bookcase does.
I think I'll stay with the printed book. At least, I can clear out the shelves every six months and donate to charity.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Dec 2010 22:43

Good Evening Diane,

I expect the cold got into your hip with all that waiting about in this weather, no wonder it's playing up. I hope the pain eases as you thaw out, and the pain killers kick in.
I am wearing Berona's hat, even when I went shopping today lol.

Tec.........10-43pm.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Dec 2010 22:45

I bet you looked very fetching Tec.

Hi Diane - poor you. I know you wanted to see your daughter but you really must look after yourself. You'll be no good to anyone if you can't walk because of the pain.

Tecwyn Report 2 Dec 2010 22:53

I did look very debonair in Berona's hat - it caused a riot in the supermarket, and I took orders that I'll pass onto Berona. If she knits enough, Ill have a stall in the market.

Diane Report 2 Dec 2010 23:05

Yes Tec your probably right about the cold in my bone's, though being on my feet all day will have had a lot to do with it as well.

Sue it is usually my daughter and the girl's that come here, but I said to her I would go to her's for a change save her and the girl's getting cold, it was the long wait for the bus that caused thing's to be as bad as they were as the temp seem to plummet.

Well all is sorted out for my employer's mum's op on monday, he is going into restbite for about 5wk's on sunday and then on monday I am taking her to the hospital were she will have the op that day and hopefully I will pick her up and bring her home on the tuesday, then she will rest as much as she need's to and I will go to her's on odd day's to do thing's like shopping, ironing and some housework. It does mean I will have christmas off, not sure if it will be the whole week from 25th Dec to !st Jan but I'm not bothered if I have to go the odd day to help her as I know I won't be doing full time hour's but I will be getting paid my normal wage.
