Hello all. Sunshine here at last - what a lovely sight.

Tec - you are getting right into the spirit of things with the calendar. We will have to double up as Berona suggests.

Poor Amanda - all those birthdays. Ours are well and truly over with by September.

Tec - when does the Duchess go into hospital with her leg?

Hi Linda - hope you enjoy your dinner.

Berona Report 7 Dec 2010 21:02

Hello Amanda. I pity you with all the birthdays. My dtr has a similar problem with her OH's family, and then shops for me as well. She has bought quite a few vouchers, which I'm not keen on giving, but better than nothing. My biggest problem is DIL's birthday was in Nov and I haven't seen her and her OH (my son) has his early in January and they will be away - so I have to give birthday and Christmas presents together - and I can't think of a damned thing to give them! Not more vouchers!

Tecwyn Report 7 Dec 2010 21:04

Enjoy your Christmas meal Linda - have fun.

Amanda you'll make a fabulous Miss October, a triangle in a bikini sounds fun lol. You sure are busy with all those birthdays and Christmas to cope with.

So now we need four more Calendar Girls for,
January.
April.
June.
November.

Should this calendar do as well as I think, it would finance the cruise.
Maybe even a world cruise?

Tec..................9-05pm.

Berona

Berona Report 7 Dec 2010 21:12

Tec - if you think we could make enough money to finance our cruise, I might consider showing a leg, if you think that will help.

Hello Sue ....pleased to hear you have sunshine at last ....long may it last : ))
Berona , I know what you mean about trying to find the correct gifts but vouchers have their plus side so don't feel bad about giving them .

Tec .....oh dear me , I hadn't seen anything about bikinis , triangular or otherwise ! lol ........have I ever told the story of the sad old swimming costume and the embarrassing situation I found myself in on here ?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 7 Dec 2010 21:24

You have high hopes Tec. I really can't see us making our fortune with this calendar:-)) A world cruise does sound nice.

I hit my Christmas shopping on the head yesterday. Spent a good part of the day running around buying most of what's on my list. Gift vouchers for the adults will be easy to pick up so leaving that till last. When my lot started suggesting vouchers a few years back I resisted as I thought them impersonal but now find they're easy and very welcome gifts. I still buy a gift for my mum but the garden centre vouchers my children give me are wonderful and my daughter has bought one for my mum too.

Good Morning Sue, and Berona,

Berona, I heard that your legs are legendary and put Betty Grable in the shade, none of these whipper snappers will know who I'm talking about lol. The Duchess has agreed to be Miss November.
She has just asked me is it necessary for me to let the whole world know that I'm insane lol. I explained that they already knew.

Sue, I'm putting a lot thought into this calendar as you can see.
The Duchess is going to the small ops clinic on Thursday. She won't have to stay in. The GP is doing it and said she will have a few stitches after.

Amanda - Don't worry about the bikini - it will be warm in Bermuda.
The tale of the swimsuit sounds interesting.

Tec.

SueMaid Report 7 Dec 2010 21:51

Of course I've heard of Betty Grable - my great grandmother told me about her. Good on the Duchess for being our Miss November. She sounds very blase about you being insane - must be used to it lol

Hope all goes well on Thursday - I will be thinking of the Duchess.

Just a 'by the way'. I slipped over to Friends for a few moments. As always, the return takes me to the Home Page of GR. On that home page is a section which has, in the past, shown who, of my contacts, has 'updated'.
To-day, it had unrecognisable names, so I checked and found that it was a very big list of all updated names on the tree of the most recent contact I have had - but not his name. Since his distant relative was a spouse to one of my distant relatives, we could only exchange one lot of info and have not needed to be in touch since then.

Anyone else had this happen?

Berona

Berona Report 7 Dec 2010 22:04

Oh my goodness, Sue - you have really flattened my ego for the day!
Your great grandmother told you about Betty Grable????

Betty was in the best Hollywood musicals in the forties. Yes, she did have lovely legs and was the pin-up of the US forces in WW2. She did retire at an early age - a multi-millionaire - retired to raise a family with Big Band leader Harry James. I never missed any of her pictures.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 7 Dec 2010 22:04

Berona - I get updates from all people who have given me access to their trees. Like you they are often distant relatives and I really don't need to know every single person in their tree. I just ignore them although now and then one pops up that is of interest.

SueMaid Report 7 Dec 2010 22:06

Just joking Berona:-)) I well remember seeing a pin up picture of her and thinking what a beautiful woman she was - gorgeous legs.

I wonder where Tec has got to. Making plans for his calendar or taking Ianto for a walk.

S x

Berona

Berona Report 7 Dec 2010 22:25

Sue - that's what I meant about the updates. Previously, the name on the Home Page is the name of the contact who has done the updating.

This list they have given me is of the updated relatives of the contact - not the name of the contact himself. There are 36 of them.

Glad to know you were joking. I was beginning to wonder how much age difference there was between YOUR great grandmother and me!! I know I'm old, but I understand that I'm not the oldest on this Chat board. Rita is older.

My legs are probably my best feature - I really don't think we need the rest of me.

I had a woollen swimsuit when I was little and I hated the thing. Never did take to swimming so if we are going to be in the water I will need my floaties.

Darn - just looked around and the nectarines I was cooking have boiled over a bit - I had turned them down to prevent that happening. Thank goodness for the ceramic top and to think I was worried when we got one.

Tecwyn Report 7 Dec 2010 22:28

I was in the garden with Ianto who is in disgrace as he made a puddle on the kitchen floor - never done that before, maybe the thought of of going out into the frozen yard that is white with a thick frost.

Then I made a ham roll for supper.

Now I'm cooking up various themes for the calendar.
Maybe we could have Persey doing DIY with an electric drill, in a bikini of course,
Can't wait to see Linda in the road with a pneumatic drill and a hard hat lol.

Working on it.

Tec. 10-28pm.

Have you seen the movie "Young at Heart" Berona? One of the women singing was 92 and she was very sprightly & saucey and gave the blokes a run for their money?

One chap that sang Night Riders in the Sky when they were filming him at home was very good he was also a bit of a comic. He said his wife and he went to dancing classes, she went on Tuesdays and he went on Thursdays.

The Tale of the Sad old swimming costume .......

On holiday in Scotland three years ago we stayed at a Haven holiday caravan camp , I'd done my research and specifically chosen this park as it had a grand swimming pool , which I knew the girls ( then 13 and 14 ) would love , I packed both my ageing swimming costumes .
The pool was one of those three tiered affairs , with connecting pools that are reached only by a small slide ( no other way in or out of the connecting pools ) .
Now , at this point I have to explain that my lower back is not up to scratch , in as much as the bones are a bit lumpy and delicate ( due to the accident years ago ) ..... anyway , we entered the pool at the top layer and OH and Rach teamed up to swim about together , Meg and I swam about and ended up at the top of the very little slide thing that dropped into the pool that joined the big pools , I started contemplating the slide, ran my hand over the surface and thought " can I ? can't I ? " , Meg looked at me as I draped a leg over..... " Mum ! , should you be doing that ? " she cautioned .........I threw caution to the wind and over I went , as I descended the drop I heard and felt a tiny snap , Meg followed and we stood in the little pool ( no way out except another slide ) , I was questing with my hand to find the reason for the " snap " and there it was , a tiny hole in the seam of the costume ( mid buttock region ) , we had to descend the next slide and I managed it on my side .....phew .
I thought I'd got away with it , just one or two stitches gone and I had enjoyed the fun of these pools ..... why stop now ?
There was a BIG slide .....right at the top of the three pools , I'd never been on such a thing in my life and the girls where eager to have a go , instead of my usual " Mum can't do that " I went for it ...........the experience itself stays with me , it was a bit like Hell but with cold water instead of fire , I shot out of the seeming miles of tube knowing that I had done damage to myself and my attire ......I had a friction burn in the bum of the costume that was at least four inches diameter !! Nowhere to run to , nowhere to hide .......... we beat a hasty retreat........lol

Hello Persey - nice to see you. I do miss you when you're not hear. I don't like swimming - I prefer to be on the water than in it. I do hope Tec isn't getting too ambitious about this calendar:-))

Not a good look - me in a bikini - If I was wearing one, I would need a complete work bench, drop saw, jig saw etc to cover all the bare bits and then I would need ear muffs, safety goggles and a safety vest... all of which I have with the exception of the bikini.

My safety vest has fleecy lining so is very good for winter weather as well.

Persey xx @ 11.38am who would never be game enought to tackle any water tubes/slides - I think you were extremely brave Amanda - reckless but brave. Next time wear your leathers.
