Sue!,
Welcome back and don't believe one eighth of what you may be told by some others on here.
I was kidnapped by some Harridans and my identity stolen, but after a mammoth struggle in the cyberworld I eventually made my way back to the Sanctuary of this Thread.
I am pleased that you enjoyed your say in Tasssie but was worried that there were storms and gales forecast for there today.
Carole, I'm pleased that you and your family are still in one piece. Whilst we would like the weather to break in the SW of WA please let it be more gentle.
Welcome Paul: I'm originally from the UK but from the North (Manchester and later, Grimsby)
Allan (I hope)

Swims over to Sue, Big (((((hug))))) welcome home lovely lady - So glad you had a great time in Tassie, even happier you didn't have to put up with this terrible weather. I was also worried about your trip home, gee - I'm a worry wart aren't I???
Would anyone know why we are getting so many frogs? Yesterday we fished out about 10 frogs from our swimming pool, today there were 6. I cant understand where they are coming from!!!
Allan, we are fine:-) I wish I could send this rain back across to you and some up to Berona:-))

Victorians must have been naughty!
A plague of frogs!!
Watch out for boils and general pestilence (apart from myself, of course).
I suspect that they may have been underground just waiting for some moisture to activate them.
I have no doubt that Linda may have a scientific explanation for the frogs when next on the Thread

Paul, some of my ancestors lived in the Stawell area in the second half of the 19th century, so a long way back. I found a few details on the site below, which answered my needs. They and their descendants have long departed the area, Gold was discovered at Pleasant Creek in the 1850s and the usual mad rush followed. The town of Stawell was established nearby in 1858. As a start, you could try http://localhero.biz/.../history_of_stawell_at_pleasant_creek,_victoria/

Waves to friends on the thread. Sue, Tassie sounded good. Carole, the storm looked quite terrifying on tv. The ABC coverage of one of the main races on Saturday actually included the sound of hail on the stand at the course. And it seemed to be worse in the eastern suburbs according to tonight's news. As for the Queensland floods, I can only look on in wonder. Ten years of drought conditions, then the flooding rains. Not knowing the country, I can't really comment but the country is so flat that the waters move slowly, and spread for miles. Then only slowly drain away.. It takes months before they eventually flow down into South Australia and out to sea. C.

Allan,
Not only do we have a plague of frogs, also we have a plague of millipedes. I don't mind the frogs so much, except when they consistently croak. Millipedes are a nuisance especially when I step on them on my carpet, it leaves a stain!!! Must be careful where I walk:-((

Good morning everyone. So good to see you back Sue. Allum the mordant managed to get himself into such a muddle, yesterday, that he had no time for shenanigans
Your trip sounded wonderful. Letting your grandson choose what to do was a good idea to fully involve him in your visit.
For quite a few years when the children were younger Maybe when the oldest was about eight to thirteen, we had family Sundays. OH heard about it on a radio programme about the Mormans. The whole family must come together on Sundays to eat and they then take turns to choose the activity for the day and everyone must join in. We decided to do that and it worked really well. My son loved going to museums, so he would often choose that, we of course came up with where to go,so we didn't end up at the same one each time. My daughter would choose swimming, or a farm visit etc. Mine would often involve going out for lunch! OH would choose something the children would like. It made us do something specific each week and it stopped any arguing about not wanting to do things.

Hello Everyone :))
Carole glad that you enjoyed Alice in Wonderland, will be going some time next week.After posting about Johnny Depp the other day I decide to finally watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as I hadn't seen it, a bit different to the original (of which I have lo) but still watched with the cherubs..:))
The air con is having a break here at the moment as It seems to be cooling down, which is great !! Still no sign of rain in the neat future but I am sure it will come eventually.
I also seem to have a problem with millipedes, the warmer weather brings them out and the boys school seem to get them every year also.
Glad to read that you trip went okay Sue and made it back in one piece!!
Welcome back Colin !
````````````````` to everyone !!!
keep smiling !!
Welcome back Sue. Glad to hear you had a lovely stay with the ones you don't see often. I did miss you very much. As soon as you left, the boys got up to mischief. Allan went off to his Ethics and Men Only threads and enticed Tec over there. I believe they were actually planning their moves before you even left home!
Linda and I did our supervising in shifts and CC was a good help - but she seems to have been told to take a 'holiday'. I have no idea what she did, but it wasn't on here, and I was kept too busy watching the terrible two, to know what was going on over on the other threads.
Nice to see Colin posting again. Janet - you too - but I suppose you've been busy - just pop in when you have a chance, it's always nice to hear from you.
What are millipedes? Are they those little things about as big as a cricket, and look like a scorpion? Or are they something different?
Hello Janet and Berona:-))
Berona.. Millipedes look like mini centipedes only smaller and black, they have lots of legs and can crawl up walls and everywhere. They are revolting little beasties.
Janet.. we only get millipedes when its been raining, they disappear when its dry.
Morning - or in my case good late at night.
I see the odd centipede but don't know the Millipedes ( I have been crawling up the wall of late) - and do frogs/toads come out when it is raining Carole? I remember trying to walk back along the hotel path to my bure from the hotel bar in Fiji after it had been raining and the frogs were hopping all over the walk way - had to do a sort of side ways shuffle dance with them.
~~~~~~ hello Janet and Colin.
I think we will be alright rainwise Berona but believe the East Cape is keeping an eye on the waves - we have been having fluctuating waves ever since the quake.
Glad to see you are back Sue - and have enjoyed yourself (well who wouldn't in Tassie) Sorry I could not swiim over and see you - I would have ended up at the bottom of the sea.
Cheers Persey

Yes, I think I know now. I have seen them but it hasn't rained much for such a long time, I just haven't seen them around.
I have been looking at the Melbourne storms on TV. It is so much like a storm which we had here about 10-12 years ago. It only happened in my suburb and the adjoining suburbs and was just like what has been happening in Melbourne - devastation everywhere (but very little rain in other parts of Sydney!). Since that time, we have had warmer winters and the rainfall has been useless - not even enough to water the gardens. It will be interesting to see if this happens to Melbourne!

The weather seems to go over the top - can't just mosey along - provide rain when needed and sun etc when needed and a bit of snow.
But Britain gets its coldest winter, quakes keep happening. Tsunamis are becoming commoner - once a Tsunami was just a painting I had to do in my art class at school - now they are rife. Won't be at all surprised to find one of our city of 49 or 50 so called extinct volcanoes decides to erupt one Saturday afternoon - they say it would probably be Rangitoto out in the harbour as it was the last one to die but who knows.
Mt Tarawera down the island is hollow underneath the mountain - my SIL did a thesis on it at Uni. There is the possibility that the NZ landmass will drift steadily Northwards - The ditch between Australia and NZ narrows as time goes on.

Just popping in to say that I am going out this evening, no alcohol involved this time as I am driving. I don't think I will be out late.
Tec, crossing your wotsits worked, I accepted an offer on my mothers house this afternoon. They offered far more than we had expected,so that gives us some lee way when the surveyor finds the myriad of things wrong with it. There is still lots of time for it all to go pear shaped of course, but at least we are on the slippery road.

That is good news Linda. Lets hope it all goes smoothly. Almost all houses have their faults, but as you say, there is room for negotiation. I will continue to keep everything crossed.
I too had good news today - became a Great Uncle three times over, all at once. Triplets born to nephew and his wife at lunchtime today. Two months early, but mother and 3 boys all doing well.
