Welcome home Sue,

Sounds like you did have a lovely weekend with your family in Tassie, your little grandson was obviously determined you should have a good time, sounds like a very thoughtful little guy.

Tasmania is such a beautiful place, and one of the places I most wanted to re-visit, on holiday. I remember it as being so lush and green.

The girls were reasonably well behaved in your abscence, they do tend to take liberties with us lads when you're away- but we were of course our usual angelic selves. Mostly because we knew Berona could be relied upon to make a full report upon your return - Snitch Berona. :)))

Anyway, good to see you back.

Tec

Good morning/evening everyone. Hope you are all well.

A very Happy Birthday to Mrs Allan - hope you have a wonderful day:-)

Millipedes? My son mentioned just before we left to come home that he'd seen a few millipedes in the house over the last day or so. He said he'd never had them in the house before so I don't know what that's about.

Tec - Tassie is a lovely place. I don't know anyone who's been who doesn't like it. Having gone down there so often we know Hobart very well and have found the best places to eat and enjoy. On Friday our son took us to lunch at a small pub in the suburb Bellerive (where the cricket is played). The pub overlooks a small harbour full of boats. We sat for ages – eating and catching up. As always it’s wonderful to see my two sons together although they tease me mercilessly and OH is no defence because he just sits and grins knowing I love it. The next day we went to the museum and then son and grandson took us to a little boat on the harbour which is a fish and chip restaurant. As I said this was chosen by our grandson as a special place for Grandad. We also managed to go to the markets down on the docks in Hobart called the Salamanca Markets. This is a wonderful experience – wonderful stalls with crafts, woodwork, plants and food. I always buy homemade biscuits and a baked cheesecake from a stall run by Austrian people who also make the most wonderful apple strudel and apple/blackberry pies. Sunday evening we were invited to dinner at a friend of my son’s home. There we had barbecued salmon fresh from the fish market, squid, prawns and oysters. The salmon was barbecued whole and our grandson was fascinated to see it still had a head:-)) So all in all we had a wonderful time. Linda you’re right – it was a good idea to allow our grandson to choose our outings.

Good morning/evening everyone.

On behalf of Mrs Allan, many thanks for your birthday greetings. OH is still in bed at the moment, but I will pass them on when she has had her beauty sleep!

We will be going out for lunch later on, either to a restaurant overlooking the ocean or to a pub overlooking the inlet, either of which is a great venue!

Sue, your description of Hobart actually made me feel 'homesick'. the last time we were in Hobart we stayed at the Casino as I was attending a conference there. We hadn't realised how far out of Hobart it was, and I vowed that the next time in Tassie we would stay in the centre of Hobart (in appropriate accommodation of course.

Linda, it sounds promising regarding your mum's house.

Janet, I don't know about Perth but rain is forecast here on Saturday. We'll have to wait and see.

Just so long as Sunday stays fine as that is when OH and daughter are going up to Perth to see Tom Jones!!

Good evening/morning all. Allan - please pass on my best wishes to your OH for a happy birthday - but wait until she wakes to do that! Hope you both have a lovely day.

Sue - sounds like you had a lovely time with your four generations all together! It's always nice to see your children get together again, isn't it?

Tec - what's this about me being a snitch? You forget that I now have the walking stick to keep you boys in line! I can wield it too!

Poor CC has been gagged and has had to be content with sending PM's. She'll learn to sit on her hands in future. I only ever made one comment on a certain other thread. The whole thread was promptly deleted - although not because of my post - but immediately after I posted it! I decided to stay away from that kind of thread after that.

Good Morning Sue,
Good Morning Allan,

Sue, your time in Hobart sounds just wonderful, and so relaxing, and the food sounds delicious too. I think there is something rather special about Hobart, and Tassie generally. So much of the world has changed, I would like to think Tasmania has not changed too much.
As I said, Tassie was high on my list of "must return to" places. It didn't happen, and definately won't now.
Another place I wanted to revisit was Fiji - I remember sitting in the Botanical Gardens in Suva, and being joined by a huge Fijian policeman, barefoot, and wearing a skirt. We had an in depth conversation on the effect of Western culture on Fijian women. He was not impressed.

Allan, I hope you and Mrs Allan enjoy her birthday outing and lunch. Also I hope the rain stays away for her trip to Perth, and Tom Jones.

Good morning Berona,

I will just go and wake OH now so that I can pass on your felicitations!

Snitch is actually an acronym for Such Nice Intentions Cannot Harm....Tec was paying you a compliment.

I'd hate to be a millipede, just think of how long it would take to put all those socks and shoes on. Not to mention the difficulty with the underwear :0))

Hello.........thought you'd all deserted me:-)) I've been up since the very early hours. Thought I'd have an early night and of course that meant an early wake-up.

Tec - Tassie is largely unchanged I should think. Even the new estates seem to blend in without too much trouble. I love Hobart but I really love Launceston and the Tamar Valley. The east coast is beautiful too.

Allan - I hope you and your lovely OH have a great day today.

Best wishes for your Mrs Allan's Birthday - no doubt she will be glad that she is not Mrs Allam. Tom Jones was a big hit over here and he certainly has stamina - he looks a very distinquished Welshman now that he has stopped colouring his hair - He seems to improve with age like a good Wine.

Salamanca Markets are great we spent nearly all day there - it was a wonderfully sunny day in Winter and there was no snow on top of Mt Wellington. I had been up there the evening before and it was bitterly cold and snow was everywhere - we both opened our car doors when we got back from the lookout and the wind just whistled through and had to hang on or else fall over (but I am good at falling over). The weather certainly cleared my lungs - coughed and coughed. Could not believe the difference in the weather the next morning.

I always thought I would like to live at Kettering - very picturesque up on the hillside looking out to sea.

Hi Persey,

The first snow that my daughter saw was on Mt Wellington. We built a small snowman on the bonnet of the car!

We have a Mt Wellington here (one of our volcanic hills) - there is a car yard nearby and it advertises itself as beside the Big McDonalds and beside the Big Mt Wellington. Back in 1998 we were going there to look at a car and we drove up and down the main roads and could not find the car yard so had to drive up the mountain and look down - goodness only knows how we missed it. Our friends were not at all surprised about our stupidity - thought it was typical.

Just popping in fora minute.
Please wish Mrs Allan, a happy birthday from me as well

Sue you didn't say if you found OH's convict hiding in Tassie

I have had a very enjoyable evening. We went to Nunnington Hall, which is a National Trust House about half an hour's drive away. It was a familiarisation visit for Tourist Information offices. I have actually been lots of times before, but we got a guided tour and they gave us a lovely supper at the end of the tour. That included wine, but as I was driving, I stuck to orange juice. They have changing exhibitions and the current one is original drawings done by Beatrix Potter,so that was very interesting

Congratulations on the triplets Tec, rather them than me

Berona

Berona Report 8 Mar 2010 23:15

Tec - that's great about the triplets - I hope they continue to thrive!
One of my boys had triplets in his year at school and I often saw them. I used to think "no hand-me-downs" there - all of them had to have everything bought new, or they wouldn't fit! I watched them coming out of school one day after rain. All three well-dressed in full uniform.
There was a murky looking puddle in the centre of the walkway and whilst most of the others walked around it - all three of them walked through it! Mud up to the ankles of their high socks, shoes submerged! I would have wanted to 'kill' mine if he did that - and all three of them did it!

Persephone

Persephone Report 8 Mar 2010 23:17

They sound like triple trouble Berona. My Grandson is the same but at least he is a one off.

Berona

Berona Report 8 Mar 2010 23:37

Tec - you had better not tell the new parents what I saw. Let them enjoy the thrill of having three at once while they can!
