Good Morning Berona,

Hope you are full of bounce this morning,

Kindly stop trying to restrain my mate Allan's movements. The lad is a free spirit, and likes to flit about the threads causing mayhem - leave him be!.

Cloudy sky here to-day with "possible showers" forecast - are you getting the same where you are, Sue?

Still quite warm, though. For once, I hope it doesn't rain this evening, as we have an open-air AGM here in the complex where I live. The meeting is usually held in the parking area - where there is no shelter!

Hi Berona - Allan's a handful isn't he? A free spirit Tec? Just another way of saying mischievous:-))

I hope you get to see your sister, Tec. Five years is a long time and doesn't time fly without you realising it.

Oh dear. I can see that our Tec has been influenced by his visit to the other threads at the weekend. I just KNEW Allan was a bad influence on him!

Good morning Sue,

Not at all, Allan! I was answering Colin and as I have only ever answered Colin on this thread, I forgot that I was still on yours! It was late for me - near my bedtime.
See folks! He has not only influenced Tec - but Colin too! What are we going to do with him?

Good evening everyone.

I have had a funny old day, but it has been enjoyable.
We did go out, but didn't venture very far As we have been refurbishing one of the bedrooms, we needed a new lamp to stand on the bedside table. Hardly world shattering or expensive, except for the fact that OH had taken a fancy to buying a Mousey Thompson lamp from the workshops in the village of Kilburn which is close to us. So we went there and spent an absolute fortune on a small piece of wood, just because it has a mouse carved on it Apparently it will be a family heirloom. to be fair, they do appreciate in value.

As we were in spending mode,we went for lunch at a pub in Ampleforth. This is next to Ampleforth College, the Catholic boarding school where the posh people send their sons. The clientèle were all well heeled (apart from us), you know the sort of thing Tec, the shabby but incredibly expensive clothes just like your neighbours.

I then on cinema duty tonight, but I only went to the first part of that as I went to a meeting about the future of the Tourist Office. The area local council want to sell the building off to save money. They want to relocate the TIC into the World of James Herriot building, but this won't work.It was supposed to be a public consultation, but the council members spent so much time talking, they hardly allowed any one else to speak. Some of them were so smug, I just wanted to go up and.. well you get the idea

Hi, Linda. I was watching Antique Roadshow awhile back and they had a couple on there who had bought in a couple of Mousey Thompson items. I really liked them but was staggered by the valuation. I hope one of your children doesn't throw it out one day thinking it's a piece of rubbish:-))

Good evening Linda

Now why does your description of 'public cosultation' not suprise me!!

For public consultation read "we have already decided and are just going through the motions of appearin to consult"

Speaking of going through the motions, has anyone heard the joke about The Sewerage Works' Manager??

I will make sure that they don't Sue. I am amazed at the cost of the new things, The furniture is very nice, but massively ver priced, in my opinion There are lots of furniture makers around here. lots of them trained at Thompsons, but have set up on their own. We even have a furniture Trail leaflet devoted to them

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Mar 2010 21:41

No I haven't heard that one Allan, but somehow, I don't think that this thread may be the appropriate place to tell it.

Another example of that is the meeting held before the general meeting. This is held so committee decisions can be made without discussing the issue before other members:-))

Good Morning Allan,
Good Evening Linda,

Allan, You are welcome to a bottle of single malt any time, we have seven unopened bottles of whisky here, presents from friends, relatives over the years, including a bottle of Glenfiddilch unopened for tweny years. I drink gin, OH only ever occassionally has a scotch. We've taken to giving them away whenever they want raffle prizes in the village - so come get some.

Linda, I would love to have anything of Mousey Thompson, always looking out for old ones at auction, but never see anything.

I have been to Council meetings like that. I think it's a recognised ploy of Councillors to stop the public from having a say.

If you look on Ebay, you will find things Tec. It seems odd to me that he new ones in the showroom actually cost less.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 9 Mar 2010 21:52

I will keep a look out on Ebay Linda, but it would have to be something small - OH has dared me not to buy anymore furniture.

You could always visit Linda and steal her new lamp, Tec. No-one would suspect you:-))

As for the bottles of scotch - keep one on hand. We are hoping to visit the UK next year and we will descend on you. OH loves a good scotch so he will enjoy a glass with you:-))

there you are Tec, it will go for more than that. The new ones are £28, but are called pin trays, not ash trays. There is one for sale in a shop in the town for £48, it looks fairly old though.

I was looking at one the other night when we went to do the quilting. That was an original carved by Robert Thompson himself. I dread to think how much that would cost

Allan Report 9 Mar 2010 21:58

Tec I'm more a Glenlivet man myself, but I also enjoy Irish whiskey.

I used to drink Gin when I was younger, then switched to Vodka and now stick with whisk(e)y. I also enjoy a Brandy.
