Berona,
Get back into bed - turn over three times - and back out the other side.

I'm twisted up enough now - don't make me more twisted than I already am!

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Mar 2010 22:57

If you were that twisted Berona, your head would be on backwards, and no one would know if you were coming or going .

And you'd catch upwith yourself coming back........

How did you know, Tec? You must be psychic!

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Mar 2010 23:05

No Berona - just sic.

Did you happen to see the list of items required to emigrate to America in 1828 that I posted earlier this evening taken from a book I have? interesting.

Tec, you make Berona sound like Linda Blair in 'The Exorcist'!

It's a big day in today in Bunbury, the running of the Bunbury Cup which also marks the end of the Annual Turf Racing Round in the City.

It usually manages to pull in about 10,000 people and I suppose that at the end of it there will be the usual arrests for drunkness and drunken driving.

I pride myself on the fact that I have never been to the event in the 24 years that we have lived here.

Even when I was inspecting the food tents, as soon as I had finished I left the raceground.

Allan

Berona

Berona Report 10 Mar 2010 23:09

I saw the list Tec - but it only seemed to be meant for men! Perhaps the list of food was for the women - but what were they supposed to wear?
Is that where the meaning of "unmentionables" came from?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Mar 2010 23:11

I went to Chester Races a couple of times in the 80s, not keen on it, mostly because I don't like crowds, so not my scene either.

and I've never been in a bookies in my life.

I'm sure Bon Jovi is a very nice chap CC, as his oldest fan, I think he should have you up on stage at his next gig - you could do a duet!

Throughout that book about emigrating, though packed with info, re rearing pigs, cows, goats and chicken etc, not a mention of womenfolk.

Makes one wonder how America got so populated in the 19th century.

I noticed that underwear was not mentioned, perhaps men didn't wear any then? or maybe they were unmentionable! how odd.

I suppose in those days men were men, and knickers were for cissies, and the aristocracy.

Berona, the ladies did not require any clothes as they would have to have stayed in the cabin all day preparing the husband's meals, and generally looking after him!

CC Wot! No whips? :0))

I'm not a gambler either Tec - but of course, I always took part in an office 'sweep' and a neighbourhood 'sweep' on Melbourne Cup day, and placed a bet when our office 'boy' went off with a list - again only on that one day in the year. Even though I didn't know the front from the back of any of the horses, I actually picked a winner one year! It's an Australian 'thing' to do this - and many a business stops on that one day, to watch or listen to the race.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Mar 2010 23:30

Here the Grand National is the big race - I do look at the runners, and pick a name I like - I do watch the race on TV, but that's it.

Then of course there's Royal Ascot, when the ladies parade around in extraordinary hats and outfits.

Tec

Berona

Berona Report 10 Mar 2010 23:34

No clothes worn on the trip Allan? That might have been OK if they were near the Equator - but it could get chilly in other places. Also - not very safe. I hope they at least wore an apron?

Allan

Allan Report 10 Mar 2010 23:36

Tec, the only time we have been to a Race Meeting was at Leonora, which was included as part of the Kalgoorlie Race Round,

One of the locals had a horse running in the second or third race. It took a tumble, broke a leg and was put down.

Not a nice start! We never went again

I had a similar experience when I was 15. We lived not far from a speedway and Dad decided to take us for the first time. I enjoyed watching the motor cycle races - also the races where they had sidecars.
As the last race commenced, Dad decided we should start to make our way out 'before we get caught up in the crowd' - and as we drew close to the track - almost to the gate - we heard a crash! Looked around in time to see one of the riders coming down out of the air and landing on his head - killed outright. I have never had any desire to look at any kind of motor cycle race since that time.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Mar 2010 23:48

Allan,
The injuries to the horses is the worst thing about racing, and the Grand National has had many fatalities- not for me.

Berona, If the ladies were crossing the North Atlantic in winter they would need to wear something more than an apron.

I have ancestors who went out from Essex in 1842. They went to a town in Utah.I researched the town, and at the time they went the town built a mud wall around the perimeter to keep out, and fight off Native American Indians - a bit different from rural Essex.
They are all buried in the Mormon Cemetery in Salt Lake City, so presumably all became Mormons.

Well I must away to my bed now. So enjoy your day Berona and Allan,
sleep well CC, and Diane if you're around.

Goodnight,
Tec

Who is Pocahuntas when he's out? LOL.

Goodnight Tec

Berona Report 10 Mar 2010 23:58

Goodnight Tec. I was waiting for you to tell us you were getting "the look"! Sleep well.

I must go now too, because I have been here on and off, for too long and haven't got much done. Also, the posteria is beginning to remind me that I have been sitting too much.

Will look in again later and talk if anyone wants to listen!
