Good evening Tec

I'll amend my tree to show my Gt grandfather.

Another relative who holds great interest for me is my mother's half sister, my Aunt Mary.

This poor woman spent most of her life in Lancaster Moor Hospital and died there in the 1960's.

I would love to know why she was initially admitted and why she never came out. I think that the latter was probably because by that time she was so institutionalized that she would not have been able to cope outside.

She was certainly well enough to go on coach trips etc and once spent a few days with us at home.

I think that the tale also holds the clue as to why my maternal Gran left her husband and took up with another man without the benefit of divorce!

Hi Linda, I have been so lazy for two whole days it's driving me mad, I need sedating........ I am not a "still" person. I've read part of a book - done a crossword - worked on my tree 'till my head ached - talked to my daughter on the phone for an hour - made bread.
Did anyone ever actually die from lazyness? they must have.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Mar 2010 22:40

That doesn't sound like a lazy day Tec, sitting veging out watching daytime TV would be lazy. It would also drive you mad, such is the quality

Berona

Berona Report 13 Mar 2010 22:57

Yes Tec, people do die from laziness - although that's not what goes on their certificate! People who sit all the time, whether working, playing or watching - and who don't do anything else - no exercise, etc. - get fat and have heart attacks/strokes.
I could be very lazy these days now that my favourite pastimes are reading, chatting here and watching TV/DVDs, but because I never have been like that, I always like to be occupied and can always find things which need to be done, or which I want to do - so I time myself when I 'sit' and don't allow it to go over before changing to something which involves as much exercise as I can cope with at the time - still not as much as I would like to do, but I make up for that by doing the 'exercise bit' more often.
People who move from one chair to another to do something different, are just asking for trouble!

p.s. Editted to say that "resting up" after over-doing it is not the same as being lazy - so I really don't think you are lazy Tec - just evening things out!

Good job, I did my fitness dvd this morning. thirty minutes of sheer torture with Rosemary Conely. i do the fat burning section three times a week and try very hard while I do it. Not that I seem to be burning any fat, it just makes me hungry, once I have got my breath back

Time for bed I think, well here at least. You need an early night Tec as you will have to stand in for your daughter tomorrow and wait on the Duchess hand and foot

Tecwyn Report 13 Mar 2010 23:08

I did watch the rugby Linda, but that doesn't count as daytime tv. Wales lost to Ireland. England drew with Scotland.

Allan, I had an aunt who was admitted to a mental hospital. She was 16 when the war started and had a complete breakdown because of the bombing etc. I knew her very well when I was young, she was a happy person, very childlike, and just needed a little supervision. She remained at home until her father, my grandfather died. A week after his death her mother had her admitted to "hospital" She remained there until she died, and worked as a cleaner., for a very small "wage"
I visited her many times - she should never have been in there, and I'm sure it wouldn't happen today.

Goodnight Linda. Sleep tight.
I must get going too. Following on from my previous post, it is time for me to 'move'. Have a nice day, Allan - and anyone else who is still with us.
Tec - hope you and the duchess sleep well and warm - and don't forget to spoil her tomorrow!

I know what you mean Berona,
I think if you've always been a busy person, and active, it's hard to change the habits of a lifetime. I've never been able to sit still for long, my brain nags at me with things I should be doing.
I don't know how people can sleep during the day - I have tried before now to have a "cat-nap" it doesn't work for me.
Recently the Duchess threatened to hit me over the head with a hammer if I didn't sit still........She would never catch me, lol

Good morning thread. I am bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning (well awake early). I heard the newspaper arrive,so I have been reading that, then I thought that I would come and talk to my friends, but the thread was way down the page.

Good morning Linda and hello everyone else:-)

It was another lovely day here today, hopefully its an end to the very high temps.
I love reading our Sunday paper, its usually the most interesting one of the week. There is one part in the paper on a Sunday where they have a sort of genealogy section, its very small, but I always check it out to see if on the off chance there is anything of interest to me - No, nothing as yet!!!

Hellooooooo Everyone:))

Allan...did you see the rain or did you blink and miss it !! Has looked like it was going to rain and then some spots and that was it....

The book that you were talking about the other night has made me grab it from the book shelf and start reading, turned the tv off and I am reading at night.

Been a very quiet weekend here as a couple of the cherubs have colds. So lots of TLC and warm lemon drinks !!

Going to catch up with some study tonight and some more reading if my eyes let me that is...

Hope everyone is happy, happy, happy !!

Hello Carole and anyone else who's about. Happy Mother's Day to all of you lovely ladies and I'm thinking of you Linda 'cos today will be a tough one.

I had a great weekend with the little ones - they were so good for us:-)) Off to read now and half watch Top Gear. Talk to you all later.

Sue xx

Hi Janet - you posted when I did. Nice to see you - we usually miss each other. Take care:-))

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Mar 2010 09:21

Sue, thank you for your message, you are so thoughtful.

I enjoy reading the Sunday Times Carole, but I take the whole day over it, if I try to read too much in one go, I find that I am just glossing over articles instead of reading them thoroughly

I remember the days of looking after sickly children Janet, I miss all of that now they are grown up and have fled the coop

Berona

Berona Report 14 Mar 2010 09:36

Just popping in to say hello to those I haven't chatted to. Carole, Janet, it feels like "ships that pass in the night" - Sue, so glad you had a lovely weekend with your little ones. Another lovely day here - forecast for rain again, which didn't happen - again!

Tec. I have tried to have a nap in the daytime and could never do it. However, I often do my transcribing at night and record TV programs - then watch them after lunch. That's when I usually start to 'nod off' but never do it properly. I realise I was asleep, but when I rewind, I've only missed about ten minutes of the show.

You're right about me. I can't be idle. I always like to make my time useful. It may only be trivial, but I could never do absolutely 'nothing'. Even watching TV, I will always be doing something else - reading, writing, knitting, while watching.

Good Morning,

Dull and overcast here today again, not particularly cold though, and I think the sun is trying to get through.

I'm on kitchen duty today, so please don't interfere, I know what I'm doing.

Dinner will be topside of beef, carrots, peas, roast parsnips, and roast potatoes. No cabbage, as I think one shouldn't have to eat cabbage on a Sunday.
No pudding, as OH can't have pudding.

I shall watch Formula One racing on TV later.

Tec

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Mar 2010 11:31

The race starts soon tec, so you had better hurry.

I see that you have taken over from me as cook, that is fine by me, I shall await delivery of the lunch. You are doing take away deliveries I assume?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Mar 2010 11:53

As I reckon it might take about 4 hours to deliver lunch to you, then lunch in your household might be a little late today, also luke warm, so I suggest you nibble on a Twiglet to keep you going.

Took the dog for a walk earlier, suddenly there are lambs everywhere, also a new foal in a neighbours paddock, couldn't be more than three days old.

At last the dreary winter is behind us - makes you feel good.
