I cannot believe you poms don't have roast pumpkin, sprinkle your vegies with olive oil and garlic - very yummy!!!!!

My mum always made yorkshire puddings in muffin tins, which my Grandma taught her to make. I have never had the frozen type, mater of fact - Ive never seen frozen ones!
Whats a toad in the hole? Don't tell me you lot eat frogs, we've got plenty here if anyone wants some:-)))))

Afternoon Aussies......back on Genes after a few years away and looks like things are a little different sitewise.

I am in Sydney - lovely day today, although there are a few pesky dark clouds looming.

Is Janet from Perth still around does anyone know?

Well.....two new friends:-)) Welcome!!

Sally - Janet from Perth is one of our friends. I'm south of Sydney in the Illawarra and it's a lovely day here too with a few of those pesky dark clouds.

Hope you both visit often - we have a lot of fun on here and we're not all Aussies.

Hi Carole - lovely to see you. Hope you are well, lovely lady. Stay beautiful!!

Hi Carole

Toad in the hole is just a yorkshire pudding batter with sausages in it. My eldest was a big fan of it - I don't bother with it now except for the Muffin/patty tin type ones with a chunk of frankfurter in them.
Anyway how is our intrepid movie goer?

Hi Sally and Sheila ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ waves from across the ditch.

I am from way down yonder in NZ you know that country that is constantly left off airline maps.

Sue - won't talk about my foot - I am absolutely fed up with not being able to get out ... it is just not my style feel very hampered by it. I am even tired of reading which is a first for me - I have been doing so much of it.

Persey xx Grumble grumble

Hi Sue,

I'm fine thanks, lovely lady. Yourself?
I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend with the cherubs.
When my three were little one of our favorite stories to read at bedtime was 'Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy' by Lynley Dodd. I thought it was pretty neat myself:-)

Hi and welcome Sally, I'm in Victoria - way down under!!!

Berona

Berona Report 15 Mar 2010 06:08

I thought Toad in the Hole was a piece of bread with the centre cut out - an egg in the middle, and fried on both sides - or does that have another name?

Yes, Sue - we have the same kind of weather to-day!!

Welcome to Sheila and Sally.

Hello Persey

It took me ages to post my last message, pesky phone!!

That frog in the whatsit sounds yukky, I'm not a fan of sausages, sorry!
I do like the movies, though. Its also a good way to spend quality time with the young ones, one on one.
Its ok, you can grumble as much as you like about your foot. Poor you!!

Hi Carole - that's probably what I'm thinking of!
Editted to add that we had rain forecast from Thursday to Monday and only got a light amount overnight on Saturday, which left dry patches everywhere!

Sally - which part of the big smoke are you from? I'm a 'Westie" - just west of Eel's country.

salinsydney

salinsydney Report 15 Mar 2010 07:46

LOL Berona which big smoke are you talking about - Sydney or London?

Ha ha..... where am I from? Many places but Stortford to Epping before moving to Wales to Sydney.

Carole

You mentioned Lynley Dodd - I was watching an interview with her once and she was saying how you have to get the illustrations just right. If you have an apple tree on one page with 10 apples on it you have to make sure that it still has 10 apples on it later in the book. The letter boxes have to be correct no use drawing the wrong styled one or having the wrong number. Children are so observant - which is very true.

This is the French Toast I make
French Toast (eggy bread) – for two thick slices of bread
Whisk 3-4 eggs with a ½ a cup of cream (milk if you’re being good).
Soak the bread in the egg mixture whilst you heat a large frying pan with a little oil. Place the soaked bread in the hot pan allowing the bread to go golden and crispy. Serve with either maple syrup or bacon, or bananas and crème fraiche.

I have done the Hole in the bread with an egg in the middle but don't know what it is called.

Stortford - is that Bishop's Stortford - my cousin married a Brit over here and they went back to UK and her parents lived in Bishops Stortford? This was in the days before we stayed in touch by computers and I used to send my mail to Grotty Cottage (address in) Bishop's Stortford.

Berona Report 15 Mar 2010 08:01

Sally - they don't have Eel's country in London!! However, I lived there too for a couple of years many years ago - probably before you were born!

A butcher's daughter once told me she didn't eat sausages and said "you wouldn't eat them either if you could see how they're made". That was enough for me - although I don't mind them barbecued and wrapped in bread and butter.

Persephone

Persephone Report 15 Mar 2010 08:05

You can't go to Bunnings on the weekend Berona without them having a stall cooking sausages and onions - which they roll in bread etc - all done for fund raising activities for football, rugby, scouts, playcentres etc.

salinsydney Report 15 Mar 2010 08:05

Ha ha Berona!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awful things sausages! Thought you were on about Jellied Eels lol!!!!!!!!

Persey - Yes it is absolutely Bishops Stortford, grew up there as a child and area until around 19 when moved to Wales.

Your French toast I call Gypsy toast!!!!!!!!!
