I remember that song Allan. OH rambles every Thursday. They do between 8 - 10 miles and always finish in a tea shop. He says he is the youngest member there. The "serious" ramblers walk on a weekend and cover silly distances.

Allan Report 18 Mar 2010 08:57

Linda, when I was walking more seriously than I do now, I used to cover 10 miles (16 Kms) every morning. it used to take about 2.5 hrs but it could not be compared to rambling

I loved rambling when I was younger and traipsed many miles over Kinder, often dropping down over Snake Pass into Glossop, having started out from Heyfield

In the days bc (before children). OH and I would go out for a hike every Sunday. We would also have walking holidays staying in youth hostels, carrying huge packs.

Now I think I would be gasping on the ground after five minutes, if I were to attempt such a fool hardy venture

Linda, in my youth I have trekked in the Lake District, Peak District and North Wales (Snowdonia) but never in Yorkshire :0((

Fond memories!!

Well being a Lancashire lad, I am not surprised that we wouldn't let you into Yorkshire!

Time I went on my merry way.
See you later

I love to go a wandering and am looking forward to getting back into going for walks - but mine are just pounding the pavements of the suburbs but I do long treks from home to them. Do the country walks etc when we go on vacations.

I have just wandered along to the Home and Away thread - blame you Allan - did not know it was there until you mentioned it.

Congratulations on this thread's achievement of 1000 pages and will soon be 15000 posts.

How is the grandson now Sue - hope all is well with him?

Well back to the tree, helping a friend out.

I must have just missed you Perse. I have done my half hour of purgatory (exercise dvd), it was particularly hard work this morning.

I am going to get a coffee and then knuckle down to buying some death certs before the price goes up. To complete the collection of just direct line ancestors for both mine and OH's tree requires 34 death certs,so that would be £238. I think that I may have to trim my wish list down a bit lol.

I have all the birth and marriage certs for the key players, I don't think that I will tot them up, or I will shock myself. I have the death certs for quite a few of them, but when Ancestry added the complete death search, I was able to find all the missing references, hence the long list.

Now how do I prioritise the list. Well obviously I need all the ones on my side of the tree.....

Do you get hungry after you exercise Linda? I am asking this because many years ago when youngest was at Kindergarten - a group of us "ladies" used to go to a hall and this very fit chap was our instructor and used to really make us work out. He asked me once what I did when I got home and I said shower then eat. I was always starving after the gruelling he used to put us through.
Once my foot is okay - I will be back on the treadmill - I especially used to like the Saturday's session as I used to watch Nigella Lawson whilst speeding along. Now she is not on - and I am not into watching motorsport.
Persey - who either should be in bed or getting on with the tree. I have been going back to sleep of a morning and not rising till late so am quite perky at night when I should be in bed.

I do get hungry Perse, but that rather defeats the object,so I am having a cup of coffee to tide me over to lunch time. Unfortunately that is another hour. As I got up and going earlier this morning, everything has been moved forwards.

Persephone Report 18 Mar 2010 11:05

A cup of coffee usually has adverse effects on me - it stimulates my appetite.

I know what you mean about bringing things forwards - I am doing it the wrong way around everything is getting later and later in the day. I will be glad when normal service has been resumed.
I tell myself I am improving - I went out and brought the washing in this afternoon - was a lovely drying day - OH put it out previous night - and if it waited till he got home from work it would all be cool from the evening air.
My Sri Lankan neighbour popped over to offer to bring it in - but I had beaten her to it - glad she didn't see me - that would've given her the giggles.

Sorry had my head in a towel, plus I was doing a feasibilty study on the economincs etc re me flying to OZ on Saturdays to watch Nigella whilst on the treadmill. Now if I was a cricketer I would be able to pop over and back in time for batting at the nets.

Your reply is lost on me Allan

I have just ordered ten death certs, what the heck it is only money. i still have a few more from the list which I really want,, the rest will have to wait until I save up some more pennies, even if they will be more expensive by then.

Ooh goody, time to eat

Greetings from the Principality,

It has been a very wet day here, so back to my kitchen project. My daughter and co were planning to visit this weekend, but as they all have dreadful colds, they're not coming now. She blames the children she teaches at school because the whole class is full of bad colds.

This means of course that I will be spending the weekend in the kitchen.

Then again, I might not.

Tec.
