Persey
Apparently there was a photo of my Great Uncle at my Grandma's because my Aunty remembers her mother saying to her " that's your Uncle, he went missing in the war" my Aunty never knew what happened to him till this morning.

Hi, Carole and Persey. My maternal great grandfather died in France during WW1. By sheer luck I was able to obtain a copy of the war diaries from a distant cousin. It actually mentions my g grandfather and so I know exactly how he died. He was actually the only one who died in that skirmish. Two officers retrieved his dying body and he passed away shortly afterwards. The two brave officers both died a few months later. I have a photo of his grave in France. He left behind his wife and 2 little girls - one of them my grandmother. Great grandmother married a few months later then tragically died of TB at age 40. She was 7 months pregnant. I have found no record of whether the baby lived. Apparently grandma never spoke of him so my mum knew nothing about him.

My father's cousin also died in France - he was 19. My father told me that his aunties often spoke of being broken hearted at the death of a nephew. Dad was pleased when I found out who he was and I also have a photo of his grave.

Hi Sue, That's wonderful you have a photo and the war diaries:-)
I have just ordered a photo of my great uncles grave, I am going to have it framed for my Aunty.

How is your little grandson?

I have them all over the place from WW1 - Ypres, France, Gallipoli etc and one died here at the Trentham Camp - poor bloke didn't even get overseas.

I know I have one from WW 2 who died in Egypt and there is someone in my history who died in the Maori wars here in NZ.

Must have been terrible for their mothers to get the notice from the War office to notify them of the deaths.

You have made me stop and think Carole - I need to do pull them all out and do a list.

We have a place in Tauranga that belongs to the Historic Trust and in the dining room is the table where the British Soldiers all ate their last meal. Next day they took on the Maoris and none of them survived.

I am not here, I have so many things to do.

I have been tending to my stupid farm on facebook. I started off using facebook as a way to see all the photos of my daughter and her friends. I never played any of the games, but then the little girl next door wanted me to be a neighbour on her farm, so I started playing that. She of course soon gave it up and moved on to a different game, but I still play the thing, it is very addictive.I just do ten minutes on a morning, but on an evening,I dip in and out of it on my laptop while I watch TV and talk on here

Having been up early yesterday, I slept in today and now have loads of things to do before my son arrives

Tec..... Legacy?

I am not here, I am gone, bye....

I can't see you, Linda:-))

Sorry Carole and Persey - I just stopped by for a couple of minutes. I didn't get on this morning as I needed to go out early so missed everyone.

Thanks for asking after my little grandson. He is so much better - eating a little and more energy today than he has had all week. Almost back to normal:-))

Sue, Glad your grandson is feeling much better:-)

Linda, I have downloaded Legacy. I used my Ancestry gedcom file, so my family tree is now all uploaded onto my Legacy tree.
Your instructions were brilliant, thank-you.

Good Evening/ Morning Everyone,

Having problems with internet at the moment. AOL seems to have the jitters, so if I disappear it is not because I'm still counting waves or trees or sheep.

An amazing event today. Someone contacted me through Hot Matches in connection with a name in OHs tree. It turned out to be a positive match.
The name.......JONES.....unbelievable.

Tec.

Good evening Tec, should AOL let you be here.

Good whatever to one and all

yesterday was a day of dramas.

Firstly, the fish pond sprang a leak. The pond is one of those pre-moulded ones which we just had sat on top of the ground. We had to decide whether to reapair it (it is about 14 years old and the UV may have made it brittle) or to do away with it. Decision: do away with it.

Then what about the fish and the water lillies? Managed to find someone at my daughter's workplace that would take them.

Fantastic!

Then, noticed my daughter's favourite cat outside the study window so I went to let him in. Noticed that he was looking very sorry for himself and walking with a limp. He had some food and was drinking OK, but my daughter asked that he be checked over by the local vet who has a surgery not far away.

Cat x-rayed: looks as though he was hit by a car, oil on his fur, one badly bruised and damaged muscle, but fortunately nothing broken. The x-ray did show, however, that he has arthritis from a previous run-in with a car.

All the running about between the cat and the fish (which was undertaken by OH) meant a very late dinner (which I prepared) after a minimal lunch!

Not one of our better days!!

Good evening Linda

Tec, I've seen various threads where people complai about the number of hot matches they receive.

When I first joined GR i got a few for the Coe side of the family (one of which was a match) but I've had nothing now for months!

Strange.

Good Evening Linda,
Good Morning Allan,

Have your visitors arrived Linda - were they treated to a Kitchen Goddess dinner?

Allan, I hate those kind of days - think they happen to keep us on our toes.
Glad there was no serious damage to the cat - poor moggy - that'll be another of his nine lives then.

Hello all:-)) I'm running late but here at last.

Allan - what a day!! I was going to say "poor cat" but poor you and your OH. Hope all is well this weekend.

I didn't come on yesterday as I really needed to do some serious housework and I didn't want to be tempted to sit down and chat. It has been a very busy week and after having our grandson for two days I'd fallen behind. So OH and I got stuck in and cleaned the house from one end to the other.

Allan, I haven't had an enquiry re a Hot Match for a long time, but to get a positive match with a name like Jones was incredible.

It has opened up a branch of OHs family that she was unaware of.
