LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Mar 2010 22:12

I always vote, even in the local council elections, because I think you can't complain if you haven't bothered. Like Tec though, I think that they are all as bad as each other, all on the make

Berona

Berona Report 22 Mar 2010 22:18

I get fed up listening to the opposition constantly nit-picking at the current party which is in power. I'm speaking generally here, it happens regardless of who is in power.

I blame the media. A political party makes an announcement and immediately, the media contacts the opposition for their opinion - and it's always opposed to whatever has been decided. It has to be - whether they do or don't agree - they just HAVE to disagree.

Don't they think us voters can think for ourselves?

At present, debates are getting popular. What they say seems to be secondary to their ability to debate. Who wants debates? What happened to action?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Mar 2010 22:37

I agree with you Berona, it's the same here. They spend so much time trying to score points, critising and back biting, you wish they would spend so much time and energy running the country.

We no longer seem capable of producing "Statesmen" as we once did, just a mottly bunch of Jonnny Come Latelys.

Allan Report 22 Mar 2010 22:55

They also seem to collectively do strange things.

A local federal Member, who I know personally, and who is no longer a federal MP, was made Minister for Small Business.

Very apt as this person IS a small business person who started out locally rebuilding car engines, then moved into garages and eventually in to developing shopping centres.

At the time of his election to the federal parliament hw was one of the richest MP's there, all from his small businesses, so he obviously knew what he was about!

When he was appointed Minister for small business, the opposition (labor) complained bittrly thta there was a conflict of interest in having a business man in that portfolio.

After a few months he was dumped from the ministry.

Now, it seems ok to have Doctor's as Health Ministers and lawyers as Attorneys General, but heaven forbid that a business man should run the small business portfolio!

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Mar 2010 23:08

It simply wouldn't do to have anyone who knew what they were talking about - it shows the rest up.

We had a case some time ago when a recently retired Army General was co-opted by the current opposition party as an advisor to the Shadow Defence Secretary. All hell broke loose - unfair - foul play, etc etc.

Heaven forbid someone should be allowed in who does know what's what.

Tec

Allan

Allan Report 22 Mar 2010 23:20

And another thought, Tec

Why can't the major parties work together on those issues which really transcend politics and will affect Governments of any persuasion in the future, eg pensions, renewal of infrastucture etc

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Mar 2010 23:34

That would be good Allan, everyone pulling together for the good of the country - but would only happen with a Coalition Government.

It would be interesting to see that work for the normal four year period of a government.

There is so much needing putting right in the UK. It is still a good country to live in, but there are major social issues here.

Berona

Berona Report 22 Mar 2010 23:35

They just can't do it, Allan. If they agree with the opposition, they might lose a few votes.

You said it, Tec. If we have too many people there who actually know what they are talking about - it would show up the rest of them - and heaven forbid - might even show up the PM!

Most of our PM's have done their best, such as it is - they believe they are doing the right thing, but all too often they are let down by dimwits in their own party - and idiots who go off and have affairs and spend taxpayer's money on lavish living.

Allan Report 22 Mar 2010 23:36

I've just heard on the news that the storm which hit Perth was the worst for 50 years.

One hospital has cancelled all elective surgery, several schools will be closed due to damage and at the height of the storm many thousands of homes without power!

Just your typical day in West Oz!! :0((

Allan

Berona

Berona Report 22 Mar 2010 23:44

Allan - you can send some of the rain - but no storms thanks.
We had one of those dreadful storms here about twelve years ago - and have had very little rain since then! We used to have torrential rain in Winter - but never once since that storm. It remains to be seen if Melbourne and Perth have the same after-effects as we had!

Allan

Allan Report 22 Mar 2010 23:47

Berona, until yesterday's storm Perth has experienced its longest driest, and hottest spell on record.

I'm glad that we didn't cop it down here!

Tecwyn Report 22 Mar 2010 23:50

That sounds pretty awful Allan, I don't really understand where Janet lives, but I hope she and her family are ok.

You do seem to be in a violent weather pattern right now.

Berona I can't wait to see what happens at our General Election. Lots of MPs leaving because they got caught fiddling, and with the electorate feeling so angry and dissillusioned, anything can happen.

Well time for bed now, so enjoy your day Berona and Allan, and all other Down Unders,

Sleep well Up Top.

Goodnight.........~~~~~~~~~~~to Diane.

Tec.

Berona Report 22 Mar 2010 23:50

Just lost my post again.

Must go now. Tec - goodnight and sleep well.

Allan - enjoy your day - but hurry and get the back garden finished - we're waiting for the barbecue!

Allan

Allan Report 22 Mar 2010 23:54

Ok Berona!

Goodnight Tec

Sorry you can't have Russell Crowe - he is away learning his Midlands accent as he is about to play Robin Hood.

Pierse Brosnan - weeeeeellllllllllll as long as he doesn't sing.

Keanu Reeves - delivering vegetables - I don't think so - though he is quite resourceful saw a photo of him out and about with one of his shoes held together with sticking plaster.

I see I am stuck out there with the animals - that will be my downfall actors come off second best when there are either animals or small children in the film.

Carole would you like to ride my horses - who would you like to be your Horse Whisperer?

I see you didn't get a part CC - you can bunk down in the barn - I have Patrick Swayze, Richard Todd and Fess Parker all there willing to share with you - Any other ghosts you would like to pop in, I can rustle up - not a problem - when you talk to the animals anything can happen.

We can eat our Merlot Jelly with our runcible spoons.

Still no name.....

Edit: just opened an e-mail from Diane and she says to say hi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to all
re her son Diane says " he packed his scanner and took off load's of thing's installed in the lappy that ( he ) thought were not needed by me. I am still waiting for him to re-install them."
She also said she is keeping up-to-date with Sue's thread - so she is watching you Tec and hopes to be back on the boards soon.
I guess that that means she will be wanting star treatment as the Duchess's companion.

Carolee Report 23 Mar 2010 02:43

Persey

I would love to ride your horses, if I ever get over my fear of them - now I'll have to think hard about who I'd like to be my horse whisperer, its pretty awesome what some people can do with horses.
I love all animals, so I'd like to work with them all, if I may:-))

Well, I took my son to the doctors yesterday afternoon - I was right he does have Tonsillitis. He is now on a coarse of antibiotics, so should make a good recovery:-))
There are a lot of bugs going around, so its to be expected that my lot get them!!!

Sue, great news about your daughter getting the all clear:-)
Also good news for your little dog, big sigh of relief:-))

Allan, I'm glad you are ok, in regards to the storms in WA:-)
I also hope that Janet and SusanWA are too!!!

Right, back to nurse duty!!

Persephone Report 23 Mar 2010 04:48

Does he like Jelly and Ice-cream?

I know when my dad was recovering from various operations over the times - I used to always go and get him ice from the nurses station as he always had a sore throat after the anaesthetic. He told me once he asked for ice, because he remembered me having got it for him before - and said they wouldn't let him have it. I trotted along to the charge nurse and got it straight away. I also went to the linen cupboard and got him an extra cuddly rug for his cold feet - he always got cold feet and he used to chuck his Railway workers coat over the end of his bed to keep his toes warm. I still have one of his coats - they called them their lambies. Funny what you keep - still have the last cardigan my mother knitted him as well.

Still no name.

Carolee

Carolee Report 23 Mar 2010 06:28

Yes, Persey:-) Jelly and ice cream have been administered to my patient, and of coarse the chicken soup. He's not very hungry, though.

mmmm I'm still nameless, too! Oh, and I noticed I was left off the list by the daffodil eating Welshman....walks off in a huff;-)))))

Persephone Report 23 Mar 2010 08:26

I know Carole

That is why I offered my humble dwellings in the barn or wherever to you and CC.
Pat could come in there as well - she could come on my flying carpet.

I can assure you that we will not be eating daffodils. I aint been a caterer for nuffin' you know.

No name Nellie.

Persephone Report 23 Mar 2010 08:53

I'll just take Viggo Mortensen (especially in History of Violence) and Sean Bean (seen him in the buff)

They will do very nicely thank you.

hmmmmmmmmm they would go nicely with Merlot Jelly.
