Bedtime - but just popped in to say we've been watching Linda's friend in
"Tomorrow Never Dies."Been very good having a James Bond movie on TV every Sat. night.

Shopping day today but I have come to the conclusion that we should not be allowed out. Last week trolley and I went down the travelator, not so today I somehow lost my grip trolley went down travelator along with my crutch on board. Himself was in front of it, this left me stranded and then this other woman wanted to help me and she had a trolley to go as well. I said no it is okay OH will sort it out with which he chucked my crutch onto the up travelator and sent it back up for me. Woman immediately pulled her trolley back off downward travelator and wanted to help me pick up my crutch. The young guys that were coming up behind the crutch were highly amused with the whole proceedings.

My youngest said "Hmmm this does not seem to surprise me as much as it should :)"

It reminded me of Hoffnung's Barrel of bricks.

Oh well another day tomorrow

Persey xx

Poor old Perse. I had to chuckle at the thought of you. I know it's not funny at the time, but you'll laugh later!

I am still trying to learn how to use a walking stick. It has a strap on it which I put around my wrist but trying to manipulate a handbag, shopping bag and a stick too is too much!. I'm naturally right handed but need to use the stick in my left hand because it's my left knee that gives trouble. I'm so used to carrying any bags in my left hand so that my 'strongest' arm is free.
It's as bad as carrying an umbrella - and I hate umbrellas! Heaven help me if I need to carry one of those too. If it rains, I'll stay home.

This page has got awful wide! I have a big screen and I can't see full left or right - and the font is small.

Oops - back to normal size again. I'm going to bed before I throw something at the computer.

Hi Berona,
i hadn't realised using a walking stick was so complicated. I'm sure you'll get used to it.
Take care

Hi CC,
Jacket potatoes sound nice. I think buuter and cheese are the nicest fillings.
Having said that I haven't had a jacket spud for ages.

Good evening Brits - good morning those living closer to me. Another warm one coming up. It was 31 here yesterday and 32 forecast for to-day. We are now almost through the first month of Autumn and the temps are supposed to be going DOWN - not UP!

CC - I understood your Cockney and most of the American words - but blacktop was one I hadn't heard before....No, you'd better not tell us what a Peter is. My son was once given a hand-knitted 'peter-heater' for a birthday present and judging by the shape of it, I could guess!

Good morning/evening everybody

Hello tp CC and Pat.

CC when I lived in Machester we didn't wake to the Dawn Chorus, just the sounds of the sparrows coughing!

Another expression: outhouse equals 'Dunny'

Although not heard much these days in Australia d*rex is a roll of sticky tape

Pat, how are you keeping? It seems ages since you last posted.

Good morning Berona,

You posted whilst I was still typing!

Our weather has cooled a bit. It is a very pleasant 9c at the moment with rain forecast for next week! A high of 24c for today, which is just as well. We got our power bill a couple of days ago!!

Our previous one was $130.00, this one is for $207.00 for 64 days.

But as well as using more power there has also been a 17% increase in the price of power. We can expect similar price increases for the next few years!

It is definitely spring here The verges are now covered in daffodils. having said that, it was cold today and they are forecasting snow for some places next week.

Berona

Berona Report 27 Mar 2010 21:32

Hi Allan. We, too, have been told that we will be paying more for our power.

In previous years, I have not used my aircon in Autumn and I did stop using it in early March, but for the last couple of weeks, I find that I need to turn it on from about 3pm until after sundown, particularly when the humidity is high.

So far, this year, our lowest o/night temps has been 15. I often wake during the night, feeling hot. That's not normal for this time of the year. Maybe we'll get a cold snap soon. (maybe??).

Good evening Linda.

Plants are remarkable. It is now our Autumn, and guess what? Our bluebells are starting to emerge and in a few weeks the daffs should be in full bloom!

That is just plain silly Allan, they should be doing that in spring

If you were hanging upside down Linda, you would also be doing strange things.

I haven't even bought my bulbs yet! I have a front garden with various coloured geraniums and I had a few daffodils. The yellow made a nice change amongst the pink, red, white & mauve - but because I have trouble bending over, my granddaughter weeded it for me - and threw the bulbs out! I usually put them in in April/May.

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

I hope everyone is well today.

Allan Report 27 Mar 2010 21:53

Good evening Tec,

We even get Tulips when it is a bit cooler. The trick with the bulbs initially is to wack 'em in the fridge or freezer for a few days to simulate the cold weather and then plant them. Our blue-bells are now naturalised (No they haven't been granted Australian Citizenship)

Linda I suppose something in the RNA tells bulbs of European flowers to flower in these months of our Autumn, being your Spring!

Hi everyone,
It does seem ages since I've been on here. I've been busy reading! I've already put my alarm clock and mobile phone on an hour!

GoodMorning Allan,

I find that extraordinary that the bulbs flower at the same months in Oz as they do in the UK - I didn't know about that.
We have an acacia tree (mimosa to us) in full flower in the village at the moment, and I believe that is a native Australian tree.

Berona Report 27 Mar 2010 22:01

I have always put my bulbs in the crisper for about three weeks prior to planting - and by then, the ground is colder - but what's the point of cooling the bulbs down, if the ground is still warm? We will need to get that cold snap soon!

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Mar 2010 22:03

Hi Pat,
It is good to see you here again, you are obviously not going to get caught out with the time change in the morning.
It really doesn't feel like British Summer Time does it?

Tec.

Berona

Berona Report 27 Mar 2010 22:05

Hello Tec. Yes, Acacia/Mimosa is our Wattle. There are many varieties of it, but they all flower in late winter/early spring. They are a native to this country and grow in the wild - very hardy - and make a lovely show when planted along the side of freeways, etc.
