Yep - I'll give it a miss.

Pat, I was given an Ian Rankin book awhile back. I didn't realise it was Inspector Rebus - we've watched that on the telly. So I'm looking for more now.

Linda, Our previous house was modern with dry lined plaster board, very easy to make internal alterations if you need to - it is also difficult to fix anything to lathe and plaster walls - hard to get a fixing.

Allan, We have Alyssum here, but it's not very rampant, so not a problem.

Wattle and Sycamore are category 3 weeds - whatever that means. But it doesn't stop there in the parks they control some trees that we would be more than happy to have in our "backyard"

We are supposed to thin our our own Karaka trees - whilst they supply berries for the Kereru which is good but they tend to takeover and replace other natives which is just not cricket.

On another note a tourist here has just recently shot a kereru and that is not on either. Mind you they are very plump and tasty.

Berona, if you do use one you'd better not give it a miss:0))

I've never read them before. They've got a crime section in the library. The books I buy come from a book club leaves books at work or else I get them from the library.
The latest on my house refub. is that the living room is finished. The stair carpet is coming next Tuesday and I'm saving up for a new kitchen. (that's next years project!)

You got out early, Sue. Good idea. You must be strong, to go to the markets and not buy anything.

I have a couple of early appointments tomorrow, so if I'm missing, you will know where I am.

It probably would have been easier to move Pat!

I rather like alyssum Allan - when it comes up in the cracks in the pathways I leave it there. We can buy them in the seed packets at the garden centres so obviously they are not a worry. I like the blue and violet lobelia as well but find them not as hardy.

Pat, your home must be fit for a queen:-))

Allan - we have alyssum coming up a couple of years after pulling a lot of old plants up. They were getting very straggly. Some of the new plants I leave but some come up in the lawn and vegie garden. Spread by breezes and birds I should think.

yes Sue,
My home does look rather smart. I'm trying to cut down on the clutter. I haven't filled up the shelves yet!
Mind you I've still got a lot of stuff in the spare room. I'll go through that gradually!
I'm going to bed now. I'm getting tired and I've got one hour's less sleep!
Night x
I'm promise not to leave it so long before posting next time x

Good morning Sue, your day is off to a good start

Persey, I love the honey scented perfume of Allysum.

Flowers are the one thing that can take me back to any part of my childhood, or teenage years, never having lived in a house with a garden until I was nineteen.

My mum and dad were alwaays visiting stately homes and Public Parks which is where I received my introduction to plants and flowers.

I always associate Allysum with Wythenshawe Hall/park in Manchester.

Alyssum is also known as Sweet Alice and looks nice on its own or mixed with Lobelia. Once you have Alyssum, it drops seeds and comes up each year. It can be a nuisance here if you want to get rid of it, but very nice if kept under control.
Now you have me feeling nostalgic. I loved gardening and did a lot of it, but only have pots and two small front gardens under my windows now - and have trouble looking after them!

Good night, Pat. Lovely to see you:-))

Allan - I love the smell of frangipanis. One of my neighbours has a lovely one in the front yard. My daughter also has a couple of frangis in pots. Some people find the scent sickly but I love it. I also love the smell of jasmine but when we had one near our front door we noticed that a couple of friends would always go to the back door saying that the scent gave them headaches.

Berona, I also like lobelia, but find that after a while it becomes 'leggy', so these days we don't grow it

Sue, I'm with you with the frangipanis. We have one outside the back door and when the breeze is from the right direction.....magnificent.

They are also extremely easy to propogate!

I didn't know that Allan. Is that just by cuttings from the main plant?
