Hello Allan. I'm rather hoping that the problem with the trees doesn't come to a "formal" complaint. A couple of the men on the street have said they'll help cut the trees down if needed but OH is wary of doing a job that's really for the professionals. They are really large gum trees and could cause a great deal of damage if they came down the wrong way. Of course there's the problem of insurance should someone be injured.

I believe that a lot of impressive buildings and some cathedrals were perhaps built to ensure the architect or builder's posterity. After all it's easy to find out who built St Peters in Leeds but who remembers my 2 x great grandmother or the other people who died in the shadow of the cathedral.

Sue, your OH is quite right to be wary with the insurance angle. Most home insurance policies have a public liability provision but if the house is uninsured then that's it!

Hello CC. I agree with your OH - the labourer worked long dangerous hours building castles, cathedrals and public buildings for the glory of the person who decided they wanted it built.

In regards to the neighbour - she is a lovely lady. The house is partly crumbling because of the tree roots and she has hefty costs to have the house repaired. If she is poisoning the trees I believe that she thought this would solve a problem but I'm sure it's going to cause more. Unfortunately her husband left the home just before Christmas and has wiped his hands of the whole lot. Our neighbour found out that he knew there were problems last year but didn't tell her. It was only when a window popped out and she called in a builder that the full extent of the damage became clear. A dreadful problem.

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Hope that everyone is well today, and that Berona has been released from her shackles. It is so difficult to sleep with all those wires and belts attached.
The last time my cardiologist listened to my heart, he laughed and asked his colleague to have a listen, whereupon they both laughed - he said it sounded like a three legged horse on a cobbled street - oh yes, absolutely hilarious, lets all have a laugh.

With regard to magnificent buildings being erected at the expense of the working class - I don't think much has changed. We have Councils and County Councils spending millions on grand schemes and Civic buildings/headquarters, while people are living in sub standard council houses not fit to live in due to mould and damp, and general decay over decades, because there is no money to maintain them.

Sue, If your neighbours trees are such that they are damaging her property, then it it very likely that they could also be damaging underground utilities, drainage, sewage etc.

Your OH would be well advised not to have anything to do with helping to remove them. That is defininately a job for professionals.

Hi to everyone,

Berona Report 29 Mar 2010 23:48

Hi everyone. I'm home and free of my shackles. I got there early to get rid of them as soon as possible. I'm still not in a good mood because after vowing to stay home if it ever rains - guess what happened? Yes - it actually began to rain late last night and is still going!! Only very lightly, but reasonably consistent and if it continues for a few more hours, I might not need to water my pots - until tomorrow!
When I alighted from the car, I tried to manage my handbag, walking stick and umbrella - and ended up throwing the umbrella back into the car - opting for getting wet rather than slipping over! Had to hurry back to the car later before the wet shirt began to show that I had nothing on under it!! I felt like a weido, walking the streets semi-naked!

Sue - different councils have different rules. Some of them insist on trees being felled by qualified arborists only and the arborists insist on seeing the Council permission before they attempt the work. Amateurs are not allowed to touch the trees.
