I seem to have come back when you all have gone.

I am glad you have got rid of the moon boot Perse, that will make things much easier for you.

I have a door knocker and a bell!!! I can't claim responsibility though, they were just there when we moved in.

It is great to see you back posting Pat, hopefully once your house is sorted out, you can be back full time. It is nice when you get new things and everything is newly decorated. Pity it doesn't stay like that permanently.

You need to get yourself a handbag which is easier to use Berona. Even with a shoulder strap on my handbag, my shoulder used to ache. OH saw an advert for ergonomic handbags, they are just like small back packs, but only have one wide strap. I have a black leather one for smarter things and a black one with discreet little butterflies on for everyday. They are much better, even though I have the same amount of things in, they hardly seem to weigh anything at all and my shoulder doesn't hurt.

I must be off again as it is now lunch time. where has the morning gone to?

Why are we discussing doorbells?

As we are - then my doorbell is a Westminster Chime.

Can't decide if that's frightfully posh - or dead common.

That must be posh Tec, mine just makes a bell noise
I have been roped into more quilting this evening. I hope the cat isn't there though

I am off to rustle up something in the kitchen,i was just popping in

I think it is probably more tasteful to have a doorbell that is just that..........a bell........rather than a gimmicky one.

My friend had a ships bell mounted in its own little housing way above the front door. You pulled on a rope to ring it. If he was working in the fields or up on the mountain and was wanted in the house, his mother would come outside and pull on the rope several times.

The ultimate doorbell I would say.

Hello CC.

I've no idea what you can do with your unwanted floppies - but I'm sure that by the time you come back on here someone will have a good idea.

Clocks..........I have so many clocks in this house. Half of them don't work.
I recently overwound a much loved wall clock, so that's another one with no tick. Can't bear to throw them out, but it is so expensive now to get clocks repaired. Clock makers and repairers are a dying breed.
Very often the cost of repair is more than the clock is actually worth, but if you really like the clock, then that doesn't matter.
I will have to bite the bullet and start sending my favourite clocks for repair.

Good morning/evening to all

Pat, your home will be palatial by the time you've finished. As the ladies here have been denigrating my soup tureens I can always arrange to bring the soup in a wheelie bin! That way there will be enough for 'seconds'

Tec we have one clock that doesn't work and it's still stuck up on the wall. We treated ourselves to it a few years back as an Anniversary Present for us. It had a lovely chime. I don't know whether we are too sentimental to take it down, or too lazy.

Hello all - thought you'd all found something better to do than talk on here:-))

I love clocks and have more than we need for a small house.

I've just realised that we are on a very significant page number.....1066

Does anyone remember a book called "1066 and All That"

It was a hilarious take on History I think that the co-authors were Selles and Yeatman.

I've intrigued myself: I'll Google it.

Persey congratulations on being bootless.....is that partway to being legless?? :0))

Good Morning Sue,
Good Morning Allan,

Hope you are well today.

Winter is back with a vengeance - pouring with rain for three days, freezing cold, snow forecast for tomorrow, Scotland and N.Ireland are badly hit.
We thought Spring had arrived, especially as it's now British Summer Time.........oh well.

Hi Sue,
Best take your brolly and make a run for it - don't run too fast lol.

Hi Allan, Not heard of that book, but it sounds good.
1066 - Battle of Hastings - Harold and his eye - what a year!

Sue, Rain forecast here for today (and over the entire Easter periond!!), but yesterday temps were back at 30c

Good evening Tec

I believe that in 1066 Harold did indeed have one eye on the Normans, having just defeated the Danes at the Battle of Stamford Bridge.

Poor Harold..........he must have wondered was it worth it. He should have taken cover in one of your Wheelie Bins.

They hadn't been invented back then, Tec, which is why history refers to the sacking of towns and villages! The earliest known method of containment of rubbish.....

Rather like most of my posts!!

Got here! Morning/evening all.

Sue - No, it hasn't 'poured' at all - just normal showers, and this morning it has been so light (only lightly sprinkling) that I was able to walk in it and not even get wet. I am happy, though, that it has rained enough for me not to have to water the pots to-day!

What - no Wheelie Bins in Hastings? -Good Heavens.

Well Bed time again - so I'll bid you an enjoyable day,
Hi to everyone who may come later,

Waves to Diane, though I'm sure she'll be in bed lol.

Goodnight,

Oh, no one has been on here this morning, what is the world coming too.

We "quilted away" last night, although it was a different type. Once the machining was done,we were supposed to start hand quilting the sections we had made, but most people were more intent on drinking. As it was raining, we had taken the car instead of walking,so as I was driving, I had no alcohol. I did manage to get some of the hand sewing done and have brought a large pile of the sections home with me to do over the next few days. No one else would take any, so I felt sorry for our hostess.

I have lots of things to do today, mainly cleaning and shopping in preparation for the arrival of my daughter and her partner late this evening. They are only staying for a couple of days, but it will be lovely to see her and the bump.

I was just listening to our grandfather clock chiming the wrong hour. It is so temperamental, it can run reasonably well for ages, then it goes haywire. It needs a total overhaul and some new bits of cog making, but as Tec says, finding someone to do it is nigh on impossible. We did find a very old chap who came and explained everything to us, we were on his list, but he has since died. The clock has been in OH's family for generations, so is special to us.

Hello Linda,

I've just popped in for a moment to see what is happening.

Our rain never materialised today.

It is a shame about your clock. It seems taht with electronic parts, genuine clock and watch making is now a lost art. Such a pity!
