Forster is another good name CC. The Northumberland line is mine and unfortunately it comes to shuddering halt with my maiden name male ancestor who was born c1800. He says he was born "on the sea" in two censuses and even worse in Ireland in another one. Unfortunately his wife is one of two women of the same name born in Corbridge in 1811. She seems to have met him in Newcastle, where presumably she was in service. She had her first three children there before they returned to Corbridge c1838. they had a grand total of fifteen children. two of them died as infants and one aged ten, but the others all lived to adulthood |

I have just checked and i do have access. while I was looking, I realised that some extra Yorkshire papers have been added,so I am going to see if I can use the obits in them to solve another problem |

The Forster was the woman CC, there were two baptised in the same year. the vicar wrote extremely good notes for the time, including the mothers maiden name and where both parents came from He gives the birth dates as well as the baptisms. Unfortunately I have no way to tie tie my woman in with either family. The male must have been baptised somewhere even if he was born on a boat coming over from Ireland, though why you would give birth on such a short journey I have no idea. he has a reasonably unusual name for the time, but I can't tie him in anywhere. |

Another absolutely gorgeous day spent in the garden catching up with odd jobs. Repotted things sitting in frost damaged pots. Got through two bags of compost. Now I'm aching, and my back is complaining bitterly. |

Good evening to you all. No good mornings as yet - I seem to be the only one here who is enjoying the morning air. |

I often make leek and potato soup Allan, it is one of my favourites. I noticed that there were two rows of leeks on the allotment. They were the last lot to be put in in the autumn and were tiny when they severe weather came. i didn't think they would survive, but they have. they have started to grow again and are just about ready to use, which is good news |

Linda, we are relatively new to growing leeks. |

My sister grows lots of kale, but I am not that keen on it, i don't like spring cabbage much either. We will grow cabbage, but the ones which are the paler green type. I sewed various types of climbing beans and lots of mange tout in the green house to give them a start. It is a bit early to put other seeds straight out into the soil. All the local nurseries have the veg seedlings in at the moment. We are going to go and get some later in the week. I should have planted some broad beans before now, so we will get the plants instead |

Linda, our staple 'green' that we grow is silver beet (Swiss chard). it's great as it is a pick, and come again, crop. |

I have a packet of Swiss chard seeds,so I will give them ago. We grow beetroot and turnips as well, but it is too early to put the beetroot into the soil just yet. We are so far north that we are always a few weeks behind the gardening programmes on TV. OH is going to plant loads of onions later this week. We put some Japanese onions in at the back end and they have survived,as has the garlic which is coming along well |
