Good Morning Allan and Perse,
Good Evening Linda,

Perse I feel sorry for the lady in the furniture store, how embarrassing for her. For the record. I also imagine you as somewhat gazelle like - leaping around the place.

Linda, Sorry it has not been so warm for you - they have forecast cloud for us tomorrow, and 14C.

Allan, Pleased the storm didn't amount to much - hope you find a parking space at the Post Office - Good to hear that Diane's problem has been removed - hope she is enjoying the peace.

Tec.

Hi Persey

Our UK Pasports expired in 1994. If we travel abroad on a UK passport we need a rentry visa for Australia, and as we have taken out Aussie citizenship we can't apply for such a visa as we don't need one!

Complicated!

We were going to apply for both, travel out on the UK passport and back in on the Aussie one but that might not be such a good idea in this day and age!

There's also the expense. I don't know the cost of aUK one but Aussie passports are $204.00 each

I'm a gnu.

But I will tell OH what you said - preferably not when he is eating his meal.

Especially for Persey

A year ago, last Thursday, I was strolling in the zoo,
When I met a man who thought he knew the lot.
He was laying down the law about the habits of baboons,
And the number of quills a porcupine has got.

So I asked him, "What's that creature there?". He answered, "Oh, it's a h-elk".
I might have gone on thinking that was true.
If the animal in question hadn't put that chap to shame,
And remarked, "I h-ain't a h-elk. I'm a g-nu".

"I'm a g-nu,
I'm a g-nu,
The g-nicest work of g-nature in the zoo.
I'm a g-nu,
How do you do?
You really ought to k-now w-ho's w-ho."

"I'm a g-nu, spelt G-N-U.
I'm g-not a camel or a kangaroo.
So let me introduce,
I'm g-neither man or moose,
Oh, g-know, g-know, g-know,
I'm a g-nu!"

I had taken furnished lodgings down at Rustington-On-Sea,
Whence I travelled on to Ashton-Under-Lime it was actually.
And the second night I stayed there I was wakened from a dream,
Which I'll tell you all about... some other time.

Among the hunting trophies on the wall above my bed,
Stuffed and mounted, was a face I thought I knew.
A bison? No, it's not a bison. An ocapi? It's unlikely, really.
Could it be a hartebeest?
When I seemed to hear a voice: "I'm a... g-nu..."

"I'm a g-nu,
A g-nother g-nu!
I wish I could g-nash my teeth at you.
I'm a g-nu,
How do you do?
You really ought to k-now w-ho's w-ho."

"I'm a g-nu, spelt G-N-U,
Call me 'bison' or 'ocapi' and I'll sue.
G-nor am I in the least,
Like that dreadful hartebeest,
Oh, g-no, g-no, g-no...
G-know, g-know, g-know, I'm a g-nu...
G-know, g-know, g-know, I'm a g-nu!

That's very g-nice of you.

Linda I may have to travel to the UK to sort out some superannuation which is stilll over there.

It's not much, but depending on how quickly it can be paid out, it would pay for a holiday at least.

It's being dealt with at Beverley

Persephone Report 13 Apr 2010 23:04

Allan -

My OH got some superannuation from Britain from when he worked there - our superannuation (Work for income) people insisted he apply and went on and on about it and if he didn't they would stop his pension etc. So after much tooing and throing he finally got a letter back which said some thing like 84cents a week for the time he worked there and then his bank statement increased by a majestic sum of NZ$ 114.53.

Don't think it would pay for an evening at the Geisha place eh Linda?

Well at least now we can carry on as before with his pension every fortnight.

Flanders and Swan's other song that was well known was Mud glorious Mud.

Allan Report 13 Apr 2010 23:14

We could try Linda!

Persey, Oz is the same and I still have a part UK aged pension to look forward to but his was the Local Government scheme.

I am eligible for a lump sum payment which is free of UK tax, if payed out the UK although I will have to pay Aussie tax on it.

I can have it transferred to Oz into my current scheme, but then the rules change.

As my Oz scheme is not recognised by the UK government the money will be taxed in the UK at 53% and then taxed again by the Aussies.

To access the money without travel I have to send all my original birth marriage certs across to prove who I am (or at least that I have the documentation) . Copies stamped and certified by a JP are not acceptable.

I'm not trusting the originals of any of my documents to the postal services of any nationality

Good evening and good morning all. I turned my computer off last night and this is the result - took me nearly an hour to boot up and read the posts up to date!
Now have a few updates to install, then I'm leaving it on for a few nights. What a hassle!!

Another beautiful day coming up. Nippy nights and mornings now but a top of 23 and low humidity during the day. I'm making the most of it while it lasts.
Allan, I believe your weather should be improving by now - I hope so.

Persephone

Persephone Report 13 Apr 2010 23:25

That is interesting we were okay with certified copies.
Infact we were amazed that there would be any entitlement at all for the short time he worked in the UK. Being an honest Joe he declared that he worked overseas when he first did his pension application.

Well folks - I am also amazed that I have carried on on here with firefox - there is no refresh button but I have learnt one trick on getting back to the page - mainly because it wasn't functioning like it used to. The other thing is the longer I am on here it ups its revs and gets quicker. I think before I was getting annoyed with it dragging its chain and having to hang around waiting for reply to be posted or page change etc. It is not with a couple of little hiccoughs but I think I can burp it (twiddle around with it) and have it running a bit smoother.

Now I must go an do interesting things like clean the fridge.

cheers all

Persey..

Good morning Berona.

Weather definitely NOT improving, I can hear thunder rumbling away and the sky, now that is light enough to see by, is a very horrible shade of grey!

Fortunately, at the moment there is no wind

What a day to have to go out

Phew, apart from a thorough drenching on leaving the Post Office, to return to the car, we survived the day.

But not without Dramas!

My Passport photos deemed too small!

Me: "Well they were taken here a few weeks ago!"

Response " I know! I'll take another set"

Me: "I'm not paying!!"

Response: "No, it was our fault. No charge"

Me: "Oh"

Me: "But that means that the new ones have to be endorsed"

Response: "yes: If you can get that done soon I'll process the rest of the application and make a further appointment for you!"

Me: "oh!, Thanks"

Upshot ....all sorted by 1.00 pm.

A fantastic effort on the part of the Post Office staff....and that is not meant in a sarcastic manner.
