Persephone Report 16 Apr 2010 05:23

I must've been a very good parent CC - later when my youngest joined her sister at school - I volunteered to do remedial reading with the children. Then I got asked to be the Teacher's aide - was not a job I could do fully as I was also going to uni - so shared with a friend - the education board paid me and I paid her. I loved it and then when my eldest went to intermediate school I volunteered and worked in their library for them. I was even given a reference from the principal - I didn't ask for one. I have acquired all my employment without any referees comments.

I remember the headmaster at the primary school being very impressed with me and he mentioned it in his speech when he left that school to work at another. One day he found me taking a class whilst the hopeles, hapless teacher was in my bookroom trying to decide what to give his class as a subject. They were all making a horrendous noise in their classroom - I went in gave them one of Linda's looks and had them all seated and I proceeded to give them a lesson.

As for Allan and his wanderings - my lips are sealed on that as well.

Home & Away - is that a TV program? What a worry - I have been on that thread several times and I find the people that get discussed are a very unkempt lot - I am seriously thinking of sending some bathing materials and brushes and combs to Summer Bay. Here are some people that would be vastly improved if they all wore burkas.

Persey - who will visit the Bluebells when she goes to Wales whenever that will be - I see where one pair of my ancestors got married in Glamorgan.

CC - You have made me concerned about PayPal. I have an account with them but only ever used it once. I think I will close the account - but that doesn't take away the information which they have, does it?

Perse - My daughter helped out at her daughter's primary school - although all help is unpaid - strictly voluntary, unless employed as ancilliary staff by the Education department. She found that every time she walked into the room, the teacher would be working on her computer whilst the children were drawing, and the teacher would close down quickly. Later, she found that she was running an online business!

I obtained my parking permit to-day - to park in disabled spots. I don't think I will be using it much, but it's there if I need it. I didn't know that it required a photo to be taken, but sat in the photo chair as instructed. Then, the lady asked me to remove my glasses. What a stupid thing to do! Anyone immediately squints when that happens - and I did - and now I have a photo on my permit which makes me look like I'm 110! Fortunately, it's the reverse side - which I won't be showing anyone!!

Allan

Allan Report 16 Apr 2010 09:57

Hello Berona and Persey.

Berona, I'm pleased that you now have your parking permit: and please don't show your reverse side to anyone!!! :0))

I often get junk emails, supposedly coming from Paypal asking me to update my details as there may have been a breach of my account. I'm asked to re-confirm my user name and password.

That would be a bl**dy miracle!!!

I have never used Paypal!!!

Scams!

I don't even bank on line. I am very wary, even though I used the on-line where I worked as I handled all their transactions including the Manager's personal account.
Our Russian security system on here seems to be very good - don't see any porn, viagra selling, Nigerian scams or any of the other crappola since we have had it.

Berona - when I was a little five year old - I was a very good reader - I have no idea how but I could read before I went to school. My mother never read and my father used to make up the stories and I knew they weren't the same as in the book. As a result of this every Friday afternoon - I was handed a book and I had to read to the class - our Teacher did her marking then instead of after school... so I guess I started voluntary work for the education system at a young age.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well and (the Aussies esp) enjoying the cooler weather....

My experience with Pay Pal wasn't so great either - not that anything dodgy actually happened, but for all the 'secure' selling features it sold me, I then had an email saying that my account had tried to be 'interferred with' three times.....did make me wonder. When they asked me to give them my credit card number again I didn't as was then paranoid!

Hi Sal

How are you have not seen you for awhile?

Sydneybloke Report 16 Apr 2010 12:40

Hi Sal, we met after your bikie adventure.
To throw in my halfpence worth, I don't have a Paypal account, but I have had several emails from banks asking me to confirm my account no. and password or my account would be frozen. They have supposedly come from the big C bank and the equally big W bank. Funny thing is, I don't have an account at either bank and the grammar was so poor that there wasn't any chance it would fool many people. More worrying was that I also got one supposedly from my ISP that looked almost authentic.
Never watched Home and Away, although I have been to Palm Beach where the opening titles were shot. From what I have heard on the grapevine, Persey's idea of bathers, combs and brushes would be an improvement. The actor Jay Laga’aia is apparently quite a hunk. But how would I know? He was Louisa's love interest in Series 2 of Bed Of Roses. Louisa (played by Kerry Armstrong) has just turned 50 so is he her toy boy? 'alf 'is luck. It was also funny/sad to see Charles "Bud" Tingwell who must have died very soon after filming the series.
I also like Midsomer but don't think it is Barnaby doing the murders. It is just a particularly lethal county, It is almost worth watching for the wonderful scenery.
I think parking permits are wonderful- my sister has one. She also has a 4WD which is much easier for her to get in and out of than her previous Sigma. That was a car I could not drive (no headroom at all).
I think the photograph is a recent addition and was brought in to stop able-bodied people from borrowing old Auntie Em's pass for convenient parking.
I am wondering whether to stay up until midnight to catch the new Dr Who on the ABC website. All in all, I think I can wait until Sunday night.
Persephone, I was a hopeless teacher and recent posts on the subject have brought those times back. It was 40 years and I was only 21. I was too immature and hopefully have matured a bit since then.
Allan and Tec appear to have been well behaved in Sue's absence, only causing a bit of mayhem on other threads. I notice he has reactivated Ethics.
Best wishes and sleep well to all, 'ave a good weekend. C.

Hi Allan, I haven't gone to bed, but am just about to have an early night, thought I would show my face in case anyone thought I'd been abducted.

Whilst I'm not normally the suspicious type, I do have a duty to Sue, so I'll say good night to you, Tec - but I'll be checking other threads to make sure you are not just giving us the slip, while you nip over to them like Allan does.
I won't be visiting you this weekend, as all the flights are cancelled - just when I had a free weekend too. Oh well, some other time, perhaps.

Colin - I know nothing about the permits, but mine was handed to me in a backing which had a suction cap on it, for fixture to the windscreen. The card was showing the side with a wheelchair on it and my permit number. The unseen side had my photo and details on it, so apparently this is the way it is to be displayed and why nobody could tell me that a photo was needed. However, I do see the point of the photo, as I have often seen people using these spaces and wondered how they are disabled.

Another sight was of two young people parked in a disabled space, who jumped out of their car and ran up the double ramp (racing each other) to do their supermarket shopping. Their car bore an AMA badge, so they COULD park there - but I thought this meant that doctors could park in these places in an emergency! Apparently, once you have the permission, you can use it for anything!

Is this sight still segregated or can a Pome join in, (Just arrived back from Aus and having withdrawal symptons )

Welcome Butch

The Thread probably has equal numbers of Brits and Aussies with the odd Kiwi thrown into the mix!

The site originator, SueMaid, is away at the moment enjoying a South Pacific Cruise, but she makes everyone welcome.

I'm in West Oz, 160 kms south of Perth but am originally from the UK.

The posts on here range from serious discussions to downright manic! A lot of humour included.
