Tec, I know that a rolling stone gathers no moss but I won't tell you what happens to a standing stone!!

Are you really sure that you want to live in Oz Allan? It sounds horrendous

Of course you are a gentleman Tec, but you may be a rake if you want

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Apr 2010 23:05

Allan, My dog is very disrespectful to standing stones, so I'd keep on rolling if I were you.

Linda, The idea of being a rake (and I love the expression) sounds rather exciting - might give it a try.

Tec.

Actually, Linda, despite all my negative comments, I'm rather fond of Oz.

There are still things that I miss about the UK such as the old pubs, the castles, the Cathedrals and the culture in general.

But Oz has a special character and then in places like Tasmania, you can still catch a glimpse of the old colonial Britain, particularly in towns like Ross.

I don't honestly think that I could return to the UK on a permanent basis, even if my family weren't here.

If you like Oz so much, to continue the garden theme, you can be a digger Allan

You lot do prattle on:-)) Why can't we have intellectual discussions about politics, the environment and the meaning of life? Well I guess we do don't we?

Oh if you want intellectual conversation, I had better leave Sue.

I am off to bed now, I shall look forward to reading your pertinent comments in the morning

Good night.

Allan Report 23 Apr 2010 23:16

So, Sue,

What do you think was the main reason for the recent GFC?

had banks been seduced by historically low interest rates into loaning more and more unsecured monet obtained internationally?

Or was it corporate greed that saw the various financial institutions pay their staff large bonuses for fictitious and dubious projections on the basis of petroleum prices backed by the futures market in coffe beans?

Personally, I think Dolly did it :0))

Goodnight Linda - I'm only joking. I wouldn't know how to conduct an intelligent conversation:-))

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Apr 2010 23:22

I'd rather be a hoe - ho ho ho!!

In an ideal world, I would like to spend half the year where I live now, because it's wonderful, and the other half in Tasmania, because I fell in love with it, a very special part of Australia I think.

Sue, Lets not discuss politics just now, we are in the the throws of a General Election - I'm suffering from politics overload.

Allan, What have you had for breakfast?

Who is Dolly?

Goodnight Linda, sleep well - keep warm.

Yes Allan. I agree......I think. That's enough intellectual conversation. We'll go back to chat.

Tec - Tasmania is a lovely place. We haven't seen the west coast but we've seen much of the east coast, Launceston and Cradle Mountain. Beautiful places. We know Hobart very well having visited our son and family often. Our son took us to a lovely small pub down by the Derwent River for lunch. It's off the tourist track so we probably wouldn't know it was there if we were on holiday instead of visiting family.

Tec, I've not had breakfast yet: that could account for it.

Years ago there was a comedy program shown in Oz (I've forgotten the name of it) in which one of the actresses played a young schoolgirl called Kylie Mole.

Kylie was always getting up to mischief and either getting other people into trouble or causing breakages etc

Her punch line on being questioned about the cause of these disasters was "dolly did it" and she would cuddle her doll

Berona Report 23 Apr 2010 23:40

Looks like I've missed Linda. Good evening/morning everyone else.
Couldn't repeat the nine-hour sleep - in fact, went the opposite way - not a wink! I don't feel tired - yet. This time, the pain seems to have gone; the soreness abating - but the itch getting worse. Hopefully that means something good.
CC - I think we could make a good team in controlling Allan. Surely we can keep him in line with two sticks to whack him with!

Editted to remember Kylie - "she goes, she goes, she goes - DER!"

Allan

Allan Report 23 Apr 2010 23:40

Tec, the show was "the Comedy Company' and the Actress was Mary-Anne Fahey.

Hello Berona - lovely to see you. You sound so much better despite not sleeping last night. Maybe the itching means you are healing - let's hope so.

We've just received some photos of my brother in law, sister in law and nephew holidaying in Holmfirth - land of Last of the Summer Wine. It looks cold but beautiful. We were there in 2008 but it rained so hard we gave up. It was nice to see it in the sun.
