Hello everyone.
Tec - I'm so pleased you gave the lamb back to its mother. I really couldn't imagine you sneaking off with it under your arm, singing Waltzing Matilda!

I am fine CC, but tired as it has been a long day. We went to the funeral of my fathers cousin, which as these things go was nice. There was a service in the church where my father was also baptised. His cousin was the same age and they were best friends all through their childhood. Their communal grandfather was the grave digger, furnace lighter, grass cutter etc. he used to take them with him and they would play in the churchyard while he worked.
After the service, it was a longish drive to the crematorium for the committal, they a drive back to his son's house for the wake. It was about an hour and a quarters drive each way on top of that

We seem to go in for animal rescue - we also tried to untangle a ram which had got its horn caught in a fence when we were over in Tasmania. Ended up reporting it at the nearest Police Station - the farm gate was locked and no one home. Another time a small sheep (hogget) was roaming the North Island highway and we went and told the nearest farm owner.

We had people rescue here yesteday down the South Island - the Milford Track became a muddy kneedeep bog and there were torrents of water through out Fiordland - wiped the road out to Te Anau and the mountains had waterfalls where there hadn't been any before. One American reckoned he had never seen so much water - and so deafening.

Northland has been desperate for rain - for the first time ever the kiwis have come out of the forests in search of food. Normally people are not allowed to feed them but they have been advised by DOC to help save our little guys and feed them - there is the worry of dogs catching them and eating them. I think they are about to get some rain today - but they have had their hopes dashed several times over the past month.

CC I met Jon Pertwee when he was in NZ he came into my bookshop especially to make my acquaintance.

Hello Berona - hope you had a decent sleep last night. A gentle hug for you.

Linda - I'm sorry you have lost a member of your family. An end of an era when it is an elderly person. I have my uncle still alive at 90. He is the last real link to my father and although he's in England and I've only met him 3 times I dread the phone call from my cousin to say he's gone.

OH's favourite Dr Who is Jon Pertwee. OH is a huge Dr Who fan. I really like Christopher Eccleston but my favourite is definately David Tennant. We did go off Dr Who for a while and I couldn't stand Peter Davidson.

Where is Tec tonight? maybe he is too afraid to venture out without Allan

Ninetyone was a good age Linda - and whilst funerals are never nice to go too, one for someone of that age is a celebration of achievement.

Bet he has seen a lot of changes in time and had a lot of stories to tell as does your Uncle - Sue.

My mother's cousin who is ninety - doesn't divulge much especially about the second world war - she signed the secrecy act and that is that as far as she is concerned - I did manage to get a whole lot of family pictures from her when she was in one of her more affable moods. I do love her dearly but I do feel sorry for her daughter-in-law who can do no right.

I always like the summaries the vicars give at funerals. you learn so much about the persons life. While the service is a sad occasion, I always enjoy meeting up with all the family members afterwards

No Linda - I had already read it when I was a youngster and by the time I had the bookshop it was no longer deemed to be unsavoury shall we say.

A lot of my readers were Dr Who fans CC - and one of my customers was in the Navy with Jon Pertwee and when Jon came to NZ he stayed in Devonport with Parker and Parker brought him in to meet me. I got his address and was able to give it to the young lads and lasses. I was amazed at how tall he was I had always thought of him as being short, he had a very young lady on his arm - and I sold them both some books.

Sadly Persey - my uncle now has dementia and is deaf. Although he can remember much from the past it is still rather difficult to talk to him. Last time we visited I took the memory book I'd made for my father before he passed away. Uncle was able to fill in some gaps although the best part was watching his face as the photos reminded him of his younger years - it was the same look as my father had when I would sit with him and listen to him talk about people long gone. The feeling that came through from both my father and uncle was the love they had for their parents. They lost their mother when young but obviously adored her. The difficult thing was telling my uncle that dad had passed away. Although my cousin had told him he had forgotten and couldn't understand why we were visiting without dad.

I am not hiding in the corner because Allan isn't here.

However, I would ask that you all respect the fact, that by nature I am a somewhat reserved and quiet charactor, who in reality would rather die than walk into a room full of ladies.

I can hear you all spluttering over your keyboards - but it's true, so be gentle, and don't gang up on me just because you can. :)))

Shall we be gentle with him ladies?

Persephone

Persephone Report 26 Apr 2010 22:57

No Linda - I am from peasant origins though there are some Mayors of Dover in my family history. I tug my forelock each morning - as OH is the one with the Royal Blood.

Linda - I was watching Pierce Brosnan on Ellen the other afternoon - he was telling a story about flying on a small aircraft to Fiji with his two boys. He was impressed with the little plane and was talking to his boys about it and the pilot said to him would you like to fly it for awhile. There was also an elderly couple on board, the boys were going oh no dad no etc and the oldies were sitting there quite happy whilst your friend Pierce flew the plane. When they got to Fiji - the pilot said would you like to land it and Pierce said Oh no I will let you. They got out of the plane and the pilot said when did you learn to fly and Pierce said I have never flown a plane before. But but replied the pilot you are in all those James Bond movies. Pierce said oh well the pilot was only 23 and he was a New Zealander.

I thought it was funny...

Tec I have always thought of you as an " Officer and a Gentleman" and would be on your best behaviour and would be welcome at any "Ladies" meeting.
Now on the other hand Allan..................

Lol Perse, I remember that film

Tecwyn Report 26 Apr 2010 23:13

You flatter me Perse - I don't think I've ever been invited to a "ladies" meeting.
I do remember at one time having to "avoid" certain ladies, but it was the uniform that was the attraction, not what was in it.

Doesn't seem to happen these days - wonder why?

Tec.

Well I must away for the day,

Please if you get the chance google the Ross Sisters and watch them on youtube - they sing about potato salad but when they finish singing they are really amazing in their red gingham shorts. Watch the one that has VHS quality.

Enjoy your day Sue - I know it won't quite be like having a coffee and muffin on deck but I am sure you and your OH can make it come close.
Hugs to Berona - get well very very quickly. I was up at 4am this morning when I couldn't sleep and I am sure you realised it - I was thinking of you right then.

Night Brits. Waves to Diane ~~~~~~~ thanks for the PM.
