What a fascinating time you people have had for the last ten pages.
Crawls to SueM- I was only suggesting that a certain gentleman behave himself, not casting nasturtiums on your character.
Kemp, I am from Sydney on the east coast. I was born here and love it although I see some of the bad points. Another regular on the board is Berona who lives west of where I do, but originally came from Newcastle NSW which is about 100 miles north of here so she may not quite agree about Sydney's charms.
Hope you are OK by the way , Berona. Haven't seen you on the board much recently.
Hi CC, I always get a smile out of your messages.
My direct 4x gt grandfather with the same surname was a convict, transported from Ireland for 14 years for rebellion.
Of course, people came with a 7 or 14 year sentence (or life), but it was very obvious that there was no way of getting back home for most of them. A few got onto the crew of ships, and a few raised enough to pay for their passage but most couldn't. John K took up farming, and had a far better life than he could have managed in Ireland.
Some of the other convicts in my tree were thieves and so forth, but all came good and flourished in the colony. Well most of them did.

hi Colin,

How's it going?

Unfortunately, my ancestors (as far as I know) all behaved themselves, and I came out here voluntarily, a decision I have never regretted.

Now if I could find where my paternal grandfather was for the first 44 years of his life, I would be a happy chappy!

Hello all. Things are still the same with me - still waiting to get my normal skin back. It might be old, but it's the one I am used to!
Still resisting the urge to scratch, and still putting up with the surge of pain/burning sensation every fifteen minutes or so - that's better than it was. Doc keeps nodding his head and telling me 'that's normal'. He smiles when he says it too - don't know why! (Sadist!!!).

Allan

Allan Report 4 May 2010 08:34

Good evening, Berona,

Just kick him in the crutch, and when he winces just say 'thats normal' and see if he smiles then !!

Hi, Berona - I was hoping very much that you would be feeling back to normal by now. As long as you're improving that's the main thing. A gentle ((((hug)))).

Hello, Colin - good to see you:-)) Now come here while I box your ears for encouraging Allan.

Hi everyone else.

I was probably one of many who asked GR to set up a games board and shift all games to that one. To which I got the standard reply, they will get back to me. Perhaps they like Allan use 1 cent postage cause I haven't received anything.
I am also heartily sick of them saying we have found a match for you and yes sure they are right - but I am already with that contact - or in some cases more than one contact. You go through the rigmarole and all of the contacts have yes beside them - and then they say if you think you might be related etc. You would think their software would be a lot better than it is.

I daren't even try and change my name - might end up with Allam.

CC, when I spoke to the specialist after my PE he said that 60% of the fatalities attributed to heart attacks were found at post mortem to be pulmonary Embolisms.

I nearly **** myself!

Sydneybloke Report 4 May 2010 12:39

All this talk about DVTs.
CC, I think you're right about uncle Harry. It was quite possibly post operation clots. On the other hand I think that the risk on long flights is real, but exaggerated. Let's face it. hundreds of Australians fly every day to Europe, nowadays usually about 10-11 hours to Bangkok then 14 to Europe.
Same with Los Angeles (14 hours) straight.
Some people are more likely to have a problem. My father died of a PE according to his death certificate but my sister worked at the same hospital and someone told her that there were other complications.

Another thread is teetering due to nastiness or misunderstanding. The originator has taken offence and withdrawn into her shell. I don't know what was said, but there are a couple of deleted posts so it could be one of those.

I can remember last year posting on a thread about the difficult subject of the alleged Lockerbie bomber getting parole. A number of different views were held, but it never descended into acrimony. It is possible to have a robust debate, although I try to avoid them.

Late last year a post on this thread was a direct attack on me and I took offence. It is easy to withdraw, but while I don't use GR much for research I had access to some shared trees, If you are not financial you lose that access.

How is Berona? I haven't seen her here for a while.

It's nice to know you miss seeing me, Colin. I'm here, but not for long because I can't stay in one place without moving around.
My shingles coincided with starting on Warfarin as a 'precautionary measure', and I have felt like a pin-cushion with blood tests every few days. Just as the doc felt he had reached a happy medium for the dosage, the UT was affected - so another needle was required to stop that and more monitoring and more BT's until we get it right.
I'm now on a tablet which makes me sleep and should also help dry up the rash - but WHEN??? It has now been three weeks and the soreness and itch are still there so I try to sleep as much as I can to help get to the end of it as soon as possible.

I am now worried about my personal appearance so have put my hood up on my hoodie.

Linda - do you take your torch - and do the usherette bit. Usherettes are practically a thing (person) of the past. Hardly see them anymore - now you just find a seat you like and you are not all crammed in and there is plenty of legroom plus there is often a holder for drinks.

I wear those long socks on flights - know of someone who was in her early twenties - had pains in her lower leg when she got off the flight with her friend - it traveled up her leg fast and she was dead within a few days. She had not realised what was going on - just thought in the beginning that she must've been sitting weirdly and that it was a nerve playing up.

Hospital stories: My dad was in hospital overnight - when I went to collect him after work they told me he had been discharged - I went to his place he was not there. I went back to the hospital - had my youngest from school with me - went to the ward he had been on - no he has gone. I got worried - OH on other side of the harbour bridge with eldest - he rang taxis, we spoke to the ambulance and we spoke to the police. He was nowhere - my father's next door neighbour got in on the act and told me off and said I should have gone and got him at lunch time. Friend of my father's who had been around to his place and left a package by the front door - said oh Norma he could be lying in a field somewhere - so she was a big help. I am at dad's ringing all over the place - come off the phone and it rings - it is my father - "Where the bl**dy hell have you been I've been waiting all evening for you? " - he was still in his room at the hospital - he had declined a meal from them. They had rubbed him off the white board - a change of staff came on and no one took any notice as far as they were concerned he had gone home. I went and got him and he said it took him ages to get hold of me - because I was either on the phone or out trying to find him. The charge nurse rang and apologised to me later - but my dad saw the funny side of it all (unlike his neighbour) and he dined out on it for ages about the bloke who was lost in the system.

Keep on smiling Berona - you will get there - miss your many posts.
Evening to Brits when they appear apart from CC who is around all hours. Morning Aussies...... ~~~~~~~~ to Diane.

Well I just popped in to say I won't be here this morning - may catch some of you tonight or either back tomorrow.

Enjoy your life wherever you are cheers from way down under.

Don't be afraid Linda - just wiggle your toes, and rotate your ankles during the flight and you'll be fine. The mild compression socks are a good idea too, available in chemists shops.

Not wishing to be left out of relating experiences of DVTs and Pulmonary Embolism, although I'm sure I've spoken of this before on here.
Three months following a heart attack, I felt very unwell on a Saturday evening, and spent an uncomfortable night. On the Sunday morning my left leg below the knee was swollen, hot, and very painful. I also had difficulty breathing, only in short gasps, and was sweating profusely.
My OH phoned the GP, and explained the symptoms.
The GP made it quite obvious he wasn't amused at being contacted on a Sunday morning, and commented that the symptoms didn't make any sense. He arrived two hours later in a foul mood. Looked at my leg, listened to my chest, grunted, and took my temperature.
"You've got a hell of a temperature - better get yourself to A&E." and then he left. I got dressed, and as my OH was no longer driving, I had to drive myself there. It was the journey from hell, but only five miles through the town. Knowing that I couldn't walk from the carpark, I pulled up right outside the doors of A&E - a jobsworth came running out to tell me I couldn't park there, at which point I was unusually rude.
Because of the state I was in I was taken to the head of the queue.
A young Asian doctor diagnosed a DVT and Pulmonary Embolism within minutes, and I was taken to the wards, given an anti clotting injection, and put on a heparin drip for a few days.
I was then put back on warfarin, and must stay on it for life.

I've had a 1950s black bakerlite telephone hanging around here for years. The one with the round chrome dial, and a proper handpiece.
Today I found a site on the internet that sells the conversion kits so that it can be used. I rather fancy using it instead of the Mickey Mouse phones currently available. Can't wait to hear it ring.

Tec.
