Just popped back quick CC - I learned to read with Janet and John lol.

Goodnight again,
Tec.

CC, I'll bet that the Suffragettes, when fighting for the vote, never realised that one day it would not matter because there would be no one worth voting for!

Australia is the same whether at the federal or State level. Absolutely no difference between the parties, and all campaigns run on a negative basis and with personal attacks on each other.

Allan

Add: I do vote in all elections but feel a fraud for so doing: however it is compulsory at the Stae and Federal Levels

Allan Report 6 May 2010 00:32

I couldn't agree with you more regarding the politicians CC :0))

My son, aged 34 this year also learnt to read with the Peter and Janet books. I just wish that he hadn't left it until he was 33 to do so :0))

CC, reading, and being taught to read, are funny things. We were encouraged to teach my son to read when he was attending Kindy in the UK.

When we came out to Australia, we were told by my daughter's pre-school staff that under no circumstances were we to try and teach her to read. That was a job for the teachers.

Needless to say, we totally ignored that 'request'

I could read from an early age and it is one of my chief joys!

Lol CC

I'm afraid that I have never trusted m children's basic education to the schools!

Well I must go now and face the day ahead

Take care:0))

I apparently knew how to read before I started school. Maybe mum encouraged me with the morning quality paper headlines. My grandmother (a teacher) may have had something to do with it, but I didn't spend all that much time with her.
When I started school my mother was criticised by the teacher for teaching me to read. I might have been good on upper case letters but not so much on lower case.
I should add that I started school in 1954.
My primary education also gave me a good gasp of grammar. Something that has not been taught in recent decades.

At the risk of being political Allan and CC, I don't know how you can say all the parties are the same. Federally, anything the government puts up is opposed by the opposition. The Greens oppose anything the government puts up- it seems to me they always vote with the opposition no matter who is in power.

Allan

Allan Report 6 May 2010 10:22

Colin,

what I meant was that there seems to be no difference in policies, or if there is, no explanation as to how their policies differ.

Come back the days when there were clear differences :0))

Allan, nowadays no one puts out a manifesto or set of policies ahead of time. It's part of the small target philosophy. No party puts up a program until an election is called, so that no-one can organise a case against it.

I wrote quite a rant about what the parties stand for but deleted before posting.

CC, vote early and vote often. If I had my druthers I would hope Brown or Cameron wins decisively. Heaven preserve Britain from the farces known as hung parliaments and coalitions. In our various state and federal governments we know all about them.

I have also been to pin the tail on the donkey . I aimed for one I considered to be the lesser of the evils available.

Tomorrow will be the New Dawning of the Age of Aquarius.
The sky will be blue - the birds will be singing. Grass will be greener.
Babies will be safe to go out without being hugged, squeezed, and kissed by laughing hyenas with rossettes pinned to their lapels.

Taxation will be a thing of the past.
The Recession will be a distant memory.
We will dwell in Arcadia - land of milk and honey.

I am off to take my medication!

Good evening Tec and CC
I didn't vote today because our election is the one put off until May 27th. I will be on holiday then, but have arranged a postal vote.

I have had a very busy day, so am looking forward to a bit of relaxation now

PatriciaAnn

PatriciaAnn Report 6 May 2010 20:48

Hi Everyone,
I voted today as well. What I learnt today was about the crazy boundary system. Parts of Exeter aren't in the Exeter boundary. They're East Devon!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 6 May 2010 20:52

Well Devon is a very nice county Pat

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 6 May 2010 21:09

Good Evening Linda, and Pat,

Sorry you've had such a busy day Linda, enjoy your relaxation, feet up, glass of wine, OH plying you with peeled grapes - brilliant.

The boundary changes are odd in some areas Pat , and will affect some electoral results. I objected strongly to the changes in County names some time ago. I live in the old Welsh County of Merionedd, Sth Merionedd actually, but now known as Gwynedd. I used to live in Denbighshire, now called Clwyd.

I always put South Merionedd on my address, things still find me.

Tec.

PatriciaAnn

PatriciaAnn Report 6 May 2010 21:15

Merionedd sounds magical Tec!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 6 May 2010 21:20

Well I have a glass of wine Tec, there are some grapes in the bowl on the table, plus apples, banana, plums and kiwi fruits, should I desire a change, but I am just starting on something for CC, so if I keep drifting off please excuse me

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 6 May 2010 21:23

It is magical Pat - I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, sadly there is nothing here for young people, so when they leave uni or college they have to leave to follow their career, usually in English cities.

Tec.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 6 May 2010 21:25

You are excused Linda - don't drift off too far, you may never get back.

PatriciaAnn Report 6 May 2010 21:28

Linda,
your wine sounds very nice.
Tec, I'm Exeter born and bred. It'a a pity when the youngsters have to move away to the big cities.
