Allan Report 6 May 2010 23:03

Now logged on via the Australian Site.

As soon as I tried to open some other Threads, everything froze.

If I suddenly disappear, as well as cheering, you will know that it wasn't anything anyone posted:0))

Tentatively dip toes into the thread, hope it works.

Bleak here today - my radio just told me that you lot over in the UK couldn't reach a decision - talk of a hung parliament - and so some of them should be.

We will know more with our midday report. I was looking forward to a better Britain where the grass might be greener.

Sorry - I struck the double entry threadkeeping.

Hello Perse, there has only been one result declared so far,so it is early days yet. On the TV they are showing various places where so many people wanted to vote that they couldn't get in before 10pm and were turned away

Allan

Allan Report 6 May 2010 23:14

Good morning Persey.

it's still a bit early for a full UK election result isn't it?

Although with trends, swingometers, statisical analysis, the pundits still manage to get it wrong :0))

A hung Parliament, what a result for the UK, everyone claiming it as some sort of victory for their particular party and the population worse off than ever!

Still: we have an election to look forward to in Australia in the near future :0))

Ahh, Tec, will it be a brave new world, or a more sinister version of 1984?

I love our election night here - the commentators get so excited and the keep putting up pics with the various colours of the seats and then it all turns to custard - nothing like what they thought in the beginning. We have the swingometers etc - and probably a bouncy castle as well.

Our next election we have to decide whether we want to change our system yet again and if MMP gets it again then we have to make another decision the following election - in the meantime many of us have gone to other pastures. The slow grinding wheels of bureaucracy gone mad - should be called bureaucrazy.

Anyway how are we all - the weather was grey all day here yesterday thought I was in London - the sun struggled behind a cloud without an actual appearance but it did not rain - and it looks like another merky day today.

Here I am again - I gave up then retried and it's fine now. Very annoying but I'm not really psychopathic Tec - not really:-))

I will be off in a minute as I have to interview some new volunteers. I have a training session to do at the end of the month so these new people are hoping to get through their police checks in time to do the training. Sometimes that can be a week and sometimes a month. As we've discussed before - the wheels of bureaucracy turn very slowly.

I was just wondering why this group of people have "gelled" so well together. We became friends very quickly and found so much in common. What attracted you to this thread and why have you stayed?

Just curious.

CC - when Muldoon was our PM - under one of the motorway bridges on the upright was a very neat graffiti "Muldoon is a liar and a jellybum." It stayed there for years.

One thing about Tec you are looking at the glass half full.

Sue - As I have said before this is the thread where one can have an intelligent conversation and I cannot understand for the likes of me why others cannot follow it.

Scuse me - just going to chat to the wheelie bin - curtsies and leaves.

Make you a coffee Linda and tea for you CC - no crumpets left sorry I pigged them all.

See - told you it is a very sane thread ~~~~~~~~~Hi Diane.

In some ways Allan, I think we have already reached a more sinister version of 1984 - we are apparently the most watched country in Europe, with more CCTV cameras per head than any other European country, including Russia.
The Government has it's nose in everything we do. With cameras recording all car registration numbers on motorways, our movements are recorded somewhere - it is very worrying, and I wonder how we got to this.

Stayed Allan ???? Don't you mean strayed.

You are always gallavanting and cavorting around - but I have to admit you know where you are safe and return to the flock post haste (without a stamp).

Linda - I don't think so!!!

Tec

My grandson loves "Cops with Cameras" - I reckon he is far too young.

It is probably very good having CCTV in an attempt to keep crime rates down but I would not want to be seen hitching my britches - when I thought no one was around.

I have seen people shoplifting and reported it - because they are a cunning lot and the camera is not directed in that area as they did it.

Allan Report 6 May 2010 23:44

Tec, WA, or at least Perth, is going the same way. The police are pushing for new stop and search powers.

Currently they have to have 'just cause' to search someone, but they want those two words dropped.

The reason? For the 'public good'

The justification? Under current powers police are findinding 60% of concealed weapons. The new powers will enable them to find more.

Why can't they just use their existing powers more vigorously?

Police claim that the new powers would only operate in known trouble spots in Perth.

Fine!

But a few years down the track?

Persey, I'm glad you use an r in that word and not a p :0))

Under Tailibin:
BINMEN refused to take a disabled pensioner’s recycling rubbish because it contained a TEA BAG.
Gentleman aged, 74, had sorted plastic, tin and glass into his grey wheelie recycling bin but the tea bag became mixed up with it.

Binmen refused to remove the bag – or the other rubbish.

Instead they left the bin untouched and posted him a note saying it was not collected due to “food waste”.
