Tecwyn Report 6 May 2010 23:51

CC. I haven't read "The Handmaiden's Tale" but will look out for it.

Persey - I can appreciate that CCTV cameras have their uses in appropriate circumstances and locations, but hate to see them plastered everywhere.

I would like to feel I can walk along a street without someone watching me - people say "If you've nothing to hide, why does it bother you" but it does bother me, and it's not the kind of society I want to live in.

Which is why I live here, where only sheep watch me lol.

Tec.

I actually agreed with you - Tec - they should not be everywhere!

Big Brother is very frightening and we are getting more and more like it as well.

I never had a camera in my shop and I caught quite a few shoplifters - I didn't prosecute but some of the incidents were rather amusing.

CC, I have just read the article. What a load of rubbish :0))

At least in WA we no longer have bin-men, as such. The bins are put out by the householder and picked up by a single operator truck which automatically picks up the bin and empties it: sometimes into the truck!

There is a weight limit of 70kgs for the bins but only because bins heavier than this can damage the lifting equipment (Of the vehicle, not the operator)

Most councils also have a policy that if an elderly or infirm or disabled person is unable to put out and take back their bins, a council official (usually the ranger) will do it for them.

Persephone Report 7 May 2010 00:10

Our trucks have a mirror where they can supposedly see what goes into the compactor when they haul it up and tip it in. Obviously they don't look properly because what I put in aint all household rubbish in the household one. However, I do observe the correct procedure with the recycle one but I know of people putting their excess household rubbish in the larger bin.

We have a 120 litre household Collected weekly were able to have a 240L if we wanted to, but in an effort to send less to the landfill they reduced the size. So people resort to illegal dumping (no cameras around) etc.

Oh and Sue - another reason for liking this thread - we can go from elections to rubbish with very little effort.

Allan

Allan Report 7 May 2010 00:20

Now the children have left home, we have very little rubbish as such, but our council does not offer the choice of a size of bin so we have a 240 litre bin.

Our recyling is great a service every fortnight on the same day that our rubbish is collected, and only one bin. Everthing gets split at the recycling depot.

We do compost what we can of kitchen scraps, shredded paper etc; and in winter we burn most of our meat and bone scraps and use the ash in the garden.

1. Egg on face. One of my hobby horses (sorry) is "They are all the same", which one day might lead to "Ve are businessmen, ve know how to run things sieg heil" Of course there are many (perhaps not all) who are in it only to feather their own nests.
We have just seen a NSW state politician lose her parli secretary (junior minister) position and last night suspended from her party. Apparently she signed false pay chits for her staff. Including her mother. That wasn't the crime. She lied to the Commission.
2. I have been to Hong Kong and loved it. It can be hot and steamy in summer but I was there in December. Bustling and vibrant, but with a lovely, quiet pace on the islands.
Our elections like Persey's are always on a Saturday. Polls open at 8 am and close at 6 (state) or 8 (federal). One of my funniest experiences was when I was handing out "how to vote" cards (we have preferential voting) for a Council election. We had a slightly inebriated gent turn up a couple of minutes after 6 demanding to be allowed in to vote for the prime minister. He was a month early.
3. I haven't got a joke to relay, but am feeling flippant so please think of one for me.
4. In a shrinking company (someone else has left) so I have been offered his job for more money. I should go out and paint the town just the slightest shade of pink.

Hello Colin

When I was a young thing - a friend of mine was staying with at a girlfriend's place and they were going out for the evening. The father of the girlfriend asked my friend where are you going.

And she said without thinking " We are going to paint the down red with Durex Gossamer" -

Luckily the dad saw the funny side...

So whenever I see Dulux Glossakote I do a little smile.

Colin, congratulations on your new position.

here in WA we recently lost our State Treasurer. He was enjoying the company of another MP, not his wife. He was sacked not for the infidelity, but for using taxpayers money to fund their little get togethers.

He also had a history of inappropriate behaviour previously, which lost him the leadership of the party.

Persey, you do know some strange people... and I'm proud to be in that group :0))

Good morning Allan, or good evening to you. i am tired as I stayed up too late watching the election coverage. i woke of course to find we are in a right old mess. The politicians, well they will look after them selves, but it is the effect on the financial markets which is the real worry.

Congratulations on your new job Colin
