Hello Allan, Is that good morning for today, Friday, May 14 and here it is currently 7.20am. Either way, Good morning to you too.

What are you up to today?

You weathered the storm OK. hehe. Not that you can say that of the Melbourne Storm, eh?

Pam.

Allan

Allan Report 13 May 2010 22:32

Good morning Pam.

5.30 am here. Today a bit chilly. The storms didn't eventuate but there were some good falls of rain.

Perth copped a battering a little while ago, just after that storm in Melbourne, but fortunately the really severe weather was confined to Perth.

A couple of people in Perth post on here and for a time we lost contact with them, but thank goodness they only suffered very slight damage

Pam, OH has to take her car in for a service this morning and I have to go to the Path Lab for a blood test. So what we do is dependent on a bit of running about.

I'll have to pick up OH from the garage and then go for my test, so I've had nothing to eat since last night and only water to drink!

I know how the convicts felt :0))

GoodMorning Allan,
Good Morning Pam,

Looks like I am the last man standing here Allan, but I'll never desert my post, may get mentioned in dispatches and awarded a chocolate medal.

Hi Pam, It's just after 10-30 pm Thursday evening in the UK.

Tec

Allan

Allan Report 13 May 2010 22:48

Good evening Tec.

Just to be ever so slightly pedantic, if you are the last man standing you would definitely get a mention in dispatches as there would only be you left to write them! :0))

A chocolate medal is a lot better than a metal one, much more useful. I take it that it could be a penguin and bar! Chocolate bar of course

Allan

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 May 2010 22:56

Allan I don't think it would be considered quite gallant or honorable to mention ones own efforts in such circumstances.

A penguin and bar would be very acceptable - but I'd prefer a snickers.

Tec.

Allan

Allan Report 13 May 2010 23:09

Tec, where does honour come into it?

have you read any of the 'Flashman" Books?

I read a couple a few years ago and they were quite funny

Allan

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 May 2010 23:25

Sadly I haven't read the Flashman books, but on your recomendation will look out for them.

There is something not quite right in applauding ones own efforts in the face of adversity.

"Alone I bravely stood with back against the wall to fight the foe, with fallen comrades all around, I defended the Colours against all odds, and here I am to claim my recognition, in the shape of a penguin and bar"

Tec.

Allan

Allan Report 13 May 2010 23:36

Tec you could always sign it Major Rout.

The Flashman books were written by George MacDonal Fraser and were based on Flashman, the bully in 'Tom Brown's Schooldays'

After leaving Eaton Flashman went on to become a National Hero, serving in the Army.

However supposedly, his private papers came to light inthe early 1900's in which he gives his own accounts of the various actions that he was involved in. His detail the true cowardly way in which he acted and how these had been misinterpreted by his Superiors and the Public!

I'm off to my bed now,
Enjoy your day Allan, and Pam.
Hi to Berona if you look in,

~~~~~~~~~~to Diane,
Goodnight,
Tec.
Tecwyn Report 13 May 2010 23:42
Allan, When were the Flashman books printed?
are they very old?
Tec.
Allan
Allan Report 13 May 2010 23:48
Tec, I had't realised how old they were!
I thinkk that they were published in the late 1960's early 1970's
Sleep well and stay warm
well it looks as though I am now the last man standing.
Perhaps all the others have been abducted by aliens.
Why am I talking to myself?
Don't ask me!
Why not?
Because I don't have an answer!
Oh!
Do you think that our nice padded cell will still be available?
I don't see why not!
Please, show some restraint!
Restraints are ok, but please no mention of whiiiiiiipppppps
Indeed you were the last man standing Allan. I got called away to the phone. A dear neighbour is going through hell at the moment. Husband has skin cancer requiring numerous skin grafts with the need to go to Townsville, 400+ klms away. 2 daughters have breast cancer, one not doing too well so she will need to go to Toowoomba, west of Brisbane Friday of next week; then she's had to have a thyroid biopsy 2 days ago and won't know the results until Monday next. So I got caught up talking to her on the phone.
Then I went out and put dinner (beef in red wine sauce with veg) in the slow cooker and also put on a pot of soup whilst I was at it. Made bed, fed baby birds, did laundry, you know all those usual tasks for the day.
I have promised myself that this afternoon, after all the chores, I will get my papers out and do some more on my family tree. I keep getting all this information from people and put it in the box and get busy doing other things and forget to enter it.
My daughter says I have brain overload, trying to do too many things at once. Ah well, I'm able to do them eventually and that's a plus.
Bye for now. Hope the tests went well; both on you and the car. haha.
Cheers,
Pam.
Thought I would pop in early (inUK) to keep thread somewhere near page one.
Today is cold, grey, and wet. Not very Springlike.
Allan I hope the men in white coats didn't come for you while I was sleeping. If they did, well I hope that you were allowed to take at least one wheelie bin for company, and that they have internet facilities in the padded cell.
Pam I'm sorry to hear your neighbour is going through such a tough time, some people seem to get such bad luck. I wish them well.
You said earlier that you breed tropical parrots, what kind are they? I have had a life long interest in birds, particularly parrot species.
Well, I'm off to make breakfast for the Duchess now. Hopefully others will make an appearence on the thread today, can't imagine where they've all scarpered to.
Tec.
I am making an even more flying visit than CC's, well I never type as much anyway!
I actually went out socialising last night, shocking I know to desert the thread. We didn't get back until late,so I didn't put the computer on.
Today I have so much to do, starting with planting lots of stuff in the greenhouse onto the allotment. It needs to go out before we go away, but as we have had such severe frosts for the last few evenings, we haven't been able to do it.
See you later.
Hello all,. Sorry, but I find it difficult to be on at the time both Aussies (and Kiwi) and Brits are on line. I get a train to work at 7.05 (for preference) or 7.20 which is too plurry early. I am usually home by about 5.30 unless we need food supplies.
If I may boast, I am rather proud of my convict ancestry, because although the crimes in most cases were crimes, all of them made good here.
Matthew Lock and Thomas Hodgetts arrived with the Second Fleet of 1790, both for stealing clothes. Matthew claimed that they were indeed his own clothes. George Seymour was transported for possession of forged bank notes and John K was transported for rebellion. Needless to say, he was Irish.
I have seen the graves for all of these except Thomas Hodgetts, who was buried in Tasmania.
I live in a block of apartments, and we have a common water meter which means the cost is shared out depending on the size of the apartment As in WA, hosing down of hard surfaces is verboten, although you can now wash your car and water the garden provided the hose has a trigger.
Pamela
Pamela Report 14 May 2010 11:51
Yes, Tec, we do. On a much smaller scale now than we used to. But we still have some breeding pairs of Rainbow Lorikeets and one breeding pair of Indian Ringnecks. If you google those breeds you'll find lots of nice pics there. OH recently started to fall in love with the Australian Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. So now we have 2 of those. And we're supposed to be working at getting out of birds and just keep our 4 pets.!!!!! Ah well, there's still a ways to go before we'll get shot of this property and move to something smaller.
According to my reckoning it's around 12 noon in the UK now so I guess you very busy people will come back in when I'm abed and asleep.
Don't work too hard now, you lot. I've got fridge magnets in my kitchen that say "Boring women live in clean houses" and "Housework Makes you Ugly!!" Besides, you can bet that you'll get it squeaky clean and just the way you want it and someone will come along and muss it all up. Don't ya just love it????
Bye now,
Pam.
I didn't say you type too much CC. I just said that I don't type as much as you do.
Congratulations on finding out how to play the cd. You can now explain to me how to set the heating up in my car. Gone are the days when you just had a knob to turn, my car has a little computer display which is ridiculously over complicated.
