Good morning/evening everyone, even though the current posters are all in the UK.

Linda, not long now before your holiday. Do the German tourists drop in on parachutes?

CC the heating in my car is also the blue/red variety and as for the CD player, I just wack a CD into the slot and listen! I can't be doing with all this shuffle and random play lark :0))

As for my taste in CD's, I once had a company car which was broken into in Perth, where we were staying overnight. Nothing was taken and all the CD's I had in the car were neatly stacked on the back seat by the would be thief!

I try not to pay more than a cuople of dollars each for them :0))

My computerised control panel in my car has a mind of its own. I mostly ignore it - the clock is interesting - it keeps fairly accurate time, but the date and day section gives me a date every day, never correct. Today it might be 31st December, while tomorrow could be 1st August.
Things beep at me for the slightest excuse - but I prefer that to the cars with a Japanese lady nagging at every opportunity.

Linda, I hope you got all your baby plants safely in the allotment.

Good evening Tec.

I prefer a car with a clock that shows the same time permanently. At least it is correct twice a day!

Good Morning Allan,

I'm sure you've got some CDs worth stealing.
I once had a car with just an 8 track player. The only tracks I had was the Stylistics and The Carpenters - both eventually left me scarred for life. I can no longer listen to either of those now without feeling rather ill.

Allan Report 14 May 2010 23:03

Ah, those 8 track players.

At the time they were vying with the cassette to see which would dominate the market.

Then Cd's then ipods blueray, blackberry etc

Raspberries to the lot of them!

We still have some Vinyl LP's which I must transfer to disc

I've got about 60 vinyl LPs, and roughly 80 45s, some are even from the 1950s, can't bring myself to part with them, and must transfer a lot of them to disc.
I have a turntable, and occassionally get them out to play.
Lots of them were my ticket to many party's around the world, because I was the one with the records.
Many people in Sydney were familiar with my record collection.

Tec, OH and myself are like that. We can't bear to part with them.

We have a boxed set of James Last records which we still play on occasions

Pam - How I envy you being able to breed those birds. I can understand you OHs attraction to the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo - they are beautiful, as are the other Australian cockatoos, Umbrella, and I particularly like the Galahs. They are incredibly expensive to buy here, as they have to be home bred in Britain due to the CITES regulations on importing foreign birds, which I agree with. There was so much cruelty in that trade. A Sulphur Crested, and the Lesser Crested can cost between £1,500 - £2,000, and a Galah is between £1,000 - £1,500. I don't know what the current exchange rate is, but expensive in any currency.
Trouble is many people that can afford to buy them have no idea how to keep them. Poor things often get put in the corner in a cage, have food thrown at every day, and left to go out of their minds with boredom, resulting in feather plucking and other behavioural problems.

Hello all. Late again, but that's being normal for me these days. Don't know whether I am getting used to the soreness or if it is improving - probably a bit of both.

I have just watched the homecoming of Jessica Watson and felt really proud that Sydney turned on the welcome for her. Also proud that youngsters like that can achieve what they set out to do.

I don't think I could have let her do it if she were my daughter, but then, I didn't like my daughter going to the UK on a working holiday at 21 either, but I didn't have much say abou it. And what could I say? when I did exactly the same thing at the same age myself!

Allan Report 15 May 2010 09:57

Good morning CC, if you happen to look in.

Good afternoon, Berona. Let's hope that you are continuing to improve and not just getting used to the soreness.

I've not yet seen the pictures of Jessica's homecoming, but I will be watching tonight's news.

A very plucky young lady! I don't think that at her age I could have contemplated such an epic undertaking.

Hi everyone,
I'm watching the F.A Cup final. It's still magic! Come on Portsmouth!

Hello CC, We had a huge box full of vinyl LP's which we donated to the local regional radio station here. They were going to have them transferred to CD so that they'd have the old recordings in their library.

Ravel's Bolero - Just love it. My father loved classical music and I inherited that from him. Sadly, a lot of these old classics are hard to come by these days.

I agree with you about Karen Carpenter. I often think to myself that it's no wonder she suicided at such a young age - I think she was only in her 30's. A lot of the songs that she sung were certainly no antidote to depression. I get a bit manic just listening to them. LOL

As for Elvis, I like his earlier recordings before Jailhouse Rock (and there were few of them). The first recording I had of Elvis' was an EP called There Will Be Peace in the Valley which were all hymns. That's where he began singing was in his church. But the 'money-makeers' got hold of him, which was a real shame.

Its currently 5.14am here in Oz and around 8pm there in UK. So is anyone in here live at the moment?

Cheers,
Pam.

Hi Pamela,
You're up early! Some of the Carpenter's songs were classics. Ihaven't heard a Carpenter's song for ages. I liked Yesterday Once More.

Good Morning Pam,
Good evening Pat and CC,

Pat it was a good Cup Final, and certainly no shame for Portsmouth in being beaten by one goal, especially by Chelsea. I expect you are looking forward to following Leeds next season, good luck to them in their promotion.

CC, You certainly have an extensive range in musical taste, much of it similar to my own. I too am not keen on jazz. My OH has 54 different Frank Sinatra LPs that she collected many years ago. She was a big fan of the Rat Pack. When in the mood I enjoy listening to the Welsh Male Voice Choirs, and Only Men Aloud are doing very well. I also love the passion and rhythm of Latin American music.

Pam, I'm live, I've just felt my pulse, and there is hope yet LOL.
I too found Karen Carpenter's voice depressing, though it was very sad what happened to her.

Tec.

CC, Forgot to say well done with your Aussie brick wall. It is so exciting when something like that happens, and yes there are some wonderfully helpful people on here who are quite selfless in their willingness to help others.

Good evening CC, Pat and Tec

Good morning Pam.

~~~~~~~~~~ to Diane.
I'm not a football fan and never was, even though I lived in Manchester. I used to live in walking distance of Maine Road which was Manchester City's ground.
I may be in a minority of one but I enjoy jazz. Many years ago I used to go to a pub, The Jodrell Arms, that had a jazz session every Saturday night.
OH can't stand jazz, needlesss to say!
We're both fine thank you CC. This morning I did the supermarket shopping. We only have a Co-op, and that's 10 miles away. the nearest Tesco is 40 miles, Asda 65 miles, and Sainsbury is a three day camel ride. When we do get to find a Tesco, which is rarely, we tend to go mad at the variety not available locally.
This afternoon I pressure washed the paved areas of my back garden. The back of the house faces North, so the yard nearest the house never gets the sun, and gets covered in a green algae that is dangerous when wet.
I also prepared my hanging baskets ready for planting, but it's a little early yet - so a busy day.
Good Morning Allan,
How are you today young man?
I'm not fanatical about football, but if I support anyone, it's Newcastle - no idea why, no connection whatever with that great city. Maybe it's because when I was a boy it seemed they always showed Newcastle on cinema newsreels - the days of Associated Pathe News.
My OH is a jazz fan.........
