After ringing the number every ten minutes ten minutes from 9am until just before midday, I finally got past the cut off message and got to listen to the nice musak for ages, only 5p a minute.
Eventually I did manage to speak to someone and we have managed to book the holiday for next Tuesday, but we will have to fly from Manchester which we hate doing.

I have just listened to the news and they have relaxed the restrictions on the amount of ash they are allowed to fly through. typical that they couldn't do that yesterday.

It was interesting that the girl turned up today tec, i hope that you gave her the grand tour

Good morning/evening all:-))

Tec - what an amazing tale. I have also knocked on doors to take photos of old family homes. Everyone has been very kind and happily allowed us to take a photo.

It is cold, wet and miserable this morning. Although warmer than Hobart at least we had beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Because our son worked on Friday we had a free day so we decided to take a river cruise on the Derwent. We've done this a number of times but it's such a lovely river and the foreshores of the various towns are so picturesque. Hobart has an incredible history as the second oldest city in Australia - Sydney being the oldest. We had a very interesting commentary from the skipper of the boat and as there were only 5 of us on board we were able to chat to him and learn more about this beautiful city. We also met our son's next door neighbour who has travelled around many parts of Tasmania and told us of places "off the beaten track" that we can visit next time we holiday down there.

Of course the highlight of the trip was the time spent with our family. Our grandson is such a character and constantly has us in stitches with the funny things he says. He lets us know how much he enjoys us being there although the downside is that he gets upset when we leave. Leaving is always the hardest part.

Good Morning/evening everyone

How are you all?

Been busy here as per normal. I have extended my hours at work so my hours seem so long now and I do not get that little me break before the cherubs come home from school!!!

I have the day off today tho so I am going to use the time to do absolutely nothing lol. Probably catch up with some study and the dreaded housework if the truth be know. Maybe a afternoon catnap as I am awake so early !

Well I hope that everyone is happy and smiling...xx

Hello Allan and all the other contributors,

It's currently 7.33am here in the Tropics. Cloudy day today. Would be nice if we got some rain. Otherwise it will mean priming up the pump in the billabong in the creek and pumping up to the top of the hill for the household water. We have 2 tanks. One household water for the bathroom, toilet, washing machine and another for drinking and cooking water. With the parasite warning on the town water in Cairns at the moment, I'm pleased we are on our own supply. Another good thing, the only water restrictions we have is if the river runs dry, (not likely) and we don't get charged for excess water usage. It's far better quality water, too. No chlorine or any of that other stuff they put in water to kill off the nasties and to supposedly make it suitable for human consumption.

Back to work this afternoon late. Today will be a 5 to 8pm stint, interviewing parents of former students at a private school here in Queensland. Seems like there's getting to be quite a lot of competition between private schools in this State. Wonder if it's the same elsewhere?
Interesting.

All have a great day.

Pam.

Good morning Sue and Janet

Good evening Linda

Linda, I'm pleased that you have been able to salvage your holiday.

There's nothing wrong with Manchester Airport!

Well, there wasn't 40 odd years ago. OH and I used to go there on a Saturday night, for a few drinks and to see the arrivals and departures.

of course that was in the days before terrorism. Wouldn't get away with it today.

It isn't the airport so much as the getting there Allan.

Having your own water supply sounds good Pam, but you wouldn't want to drink the water from the rivers around here

Janet - you seem to get busier by the day. Do you still have loads of washing:-))

Pam - so pleased that you are now a regular. I love reading about the place you live. It sounds like paradise.

Hello and goodbye CC

We usually do the package holidays from .Newcastle or Leeds Sue, Teesside flights don't usually go where we want to, or they are more expensive. We used to use Teesside a lot when OH was working as he had zillions of frequent flyer points, so we used to fly to Schipol and pick up the flights to European city breaks from there

LindainHerriotCountry

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 17 May 2010 23:00

Linda - the first time we flew to the UK we flew to Schipol and then to Teeside. It was so easy. Now we fly to Manchester and then pick up a car and drive to Leeds for a couple of days and then Guisborough to stay with family.
