Thank you Allan,
That is an excellent way to deal with it. I couldn't just say "You're wrong", but was wondering how to put it tactfully. Obviousy this man hasn't done any in depth research, but even so, he won't welcome being told he is barking up the wrong tree, and he could pass false info onto others.

CC.........Was about to send out a search party for you - My OH watches all these murders on tv, then she reads about others all the time. I don't think it's healthy, and there was a time when I was worried for my own safety."What is she cooking up" but I'm still here, so obviously she hasn't found the perfect plot ......yet.

Well it's half past midnight, I must away to my bed.
Enjoy your day Allan, Berona, Sue,
Sleep well CC.....IF YOU GET TO BED.
~~~~~~~To Diane, who has been asleep for hours.
Goodnight,
Tec.
Sydneybloke Report 31 May 2010 03:15
At least the weather down Sue's way doesn't seem quite as bad as predicted earlier. Further south they have had real wild weather.
The current forecast for the Illawarra (Sue is near Wollongong) is
Forecast for Monday
Rain areas with some heavy falls, and possible thunderstorms near the coast, easing later. Strong and gusty southeast winds, possibly reaching gale force near the coast during the morning. Dangerous surf conditions - hazardous to coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing.
Wollongong : Rain, easing later. Windy. Max: 18
Nowra : Rain, easing later. Windy. Max: 17
Bowral : Rain, easing later. Windy. Max: 12
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.
Wollongong : Shower or two. Min: 12 Max: 19
Re the rock fishing- in NSW we have had 7 deaths in the past two weeks, 5 of them in one incident. Although I wandered along rock platforms in my youth I was never silly enough even as a teenager to do it during bad conditions.
I have found Ancestry trees to be very useful, but they always need to checking. I have an ancestor George S who was transported in 1820 but as usual made good in the colony. Several people have trees with his parents named with dates of birth and death. From George's death certificate the supposed names are correct, but the death certificates indicate that they are too young. The male was about 12 years older than George and the female about 9 years younger. Now I know death certificates can be wrong, but I really don't think anyone would mistake an 86 year old woman for 54. I think it is more likely that they were brothers. I have not traced their arrival in NSW yet but they came about 1840 according to their death certificates. By this time there were more free immigrants than convicts.
Hope everyone is keeping well. ~~~~~~~ to Persephone, who rather enjoys a live chat whereas I just drop in from time to time and leave a message for whoever wants to read it.
Good morning everyone.
I just wrote a really long post, pressed the wrong key and the laptop did a re-boot. So it will just have to be hello I am afraid.
Welcome to the thread, Joan. We have a mixture of Poms and Aussies/Kiwis here, but so far, none from S.A.
Sounds like your weather has been like ours. I am in the western suburbs of Sydney and we rarely get rain - even when we hear that "Sydney has had heavy rain" it doesn't seem to get this far - but to-day we have had a few showers. Still not enough to replenish our water supply, but with Winter starting tomorrow, we can hope for more rain soon.
Welcome Joan.
I'm from Devon England. It's bank holiday monday here and I've just got up. It's dry here at the moment.
Hello, Pat, lazy bones! (just joking)
Good morning Berona, Sue and Colin
Welcome Joan. I'm in WA but originally from the UK. I have been out with my family (son and daughter) since 1982. Oh and, of course, my OH
Bye CC.
I do hope that your moggie returns. One of ours (ok, my daughter's) goes missing for a couple of days at a time and then just strolls nonchalantly back in.!!
Hello all. The weather here has been nasty today although not as damaging as it's been further down the coast. We've had very heavy rain and strong winds. The roads have been dreadful. I could see the beach from the hospital and the waves were incredible. I love stormy seas but I can't believe the silly fools who either rock-fish or surf in this weather.
First day of training went well. The group went from nervous to enthusiastic very quickly. So hopefully the rest of the course will go down well. It's funny how you get the same mix of people every time. The overly talkative ones, the know-it-alls, the timid ones - They're there everytime.
Hello
i had a nice day today. The weather wasn't that bad afterall. I went to town and did some shopping.
Sue, What's the training for?
I'm in the middle of watching Morse. I've been reading the Twilight books. Stephenie Meyer makes Vampires sound quite nice! I'm only on the second book so far.
Hello Pat and CC. Just a quick visit.
Pat - I've got a new group of volunteers who will be working with cancer patients on the oncology ward and in the treatment centre of our local hospital. I love watching their enthusiasm grow - by the end of the training they are so keen to get started.
CC - there is a place for everyone. Personally I can't approach people to buy raffle tickets but we have people who can sell books and books of tickets. You timid? I don't believe it!!
Good Morning Sue, but I think you've gone,
Good Morning Allan,
Good Evening Pat,
I agree - CC is timid - it's because of all the Midsomer Murders she watches, and then runs to hide behind the sofa.
Welcome to the thread Joan - I'm Tec, and I'm a Pom living in North Wales, but have been to Oz many times, which is why Sue allowed me into this very exclusive club.
You will come to realise that I am actually the only sane one here.
Tec.
Tecwyn Report 31 May 2010 23:32
So you've seen me howling at the moon then Allan?
Incidently, I contacted the person who has my ancestors in his tree, but got a very terse reply back, bordering on rudeness.
So I sent back to say that the three aunts he had living and dying in America was very strange, as I had attended their funerals in the UK.
Now I'm told that it is not his his fault if I don't know my own grandparents.
Oh well - I can't be bothered any more. I could send him copies of BMD certs, but I can tell by the tone of his replies that I'm never going to win.
Though it does worry me that he may pass false info to others.
Tec.
Allan
Allan Report 31 May 2010 23:39
Tec,
I'm sorry that the person you contacted turned out to be less than grateful.
If someone contacted me to ay that I might have something wrong, my immediate reaction would be to go back and recheck my sources!
I have seen mant threads on these boards regarding people with wrong info on their trees who refuse to accept that they are wrong.
I certainly wouldn't be sending any copies of Certs of to them.
I once sent a whole heap of information to a person researching a common ancestor. I never even got an acknowledgement that the material had been received, despite sending him a couple of emails asking if the stuff was of any use to him
Never again
Allan
Berona Report 31 May 2010 23:42
Good evening and good morning all. Caught you before you go to bed, Tec!
Our first day of winter promises to be a lovely day where I am. I might go for a drive this morning or my car battery could die. I have only been making short trips to keep appointments in it because it wasn't comfortable on my sore back. It's still very sore, but I am trying to make myself get used to the soreness. It's not easy.
Sue - did I miss something while not posting often - but I wonder how you got on with the case of the members who didn't keep their records straight? The last I remember is that you had received advice from a solicitor.
