GoodMorning Sue, ans Allan,
Good Evening CC,

This is like "All Our Yesterdays", and very interesting. I think I could actually write a book about my early years. It was not the happiest time of my life for many reasons.

Allan - I remember "This Is The Voice Of America" I had forgotten all about that. I seem to remember they had a lot of Evangelical broadcasts.
Radio Moscow was interesting too.

Sue, I like the Banana Boat Song, and Scarlet Ribbons.

Sue, my sincere apologies! I never said good morning to you or even acknowledged your presence :o((

I'm now going to feel guilty all day!

Good evening Tec: I'm glad that you remembered those broadcasts as I'm sure that CC thought that I was making them up !

I always sit upright and wear my tie if I know Mother's on the thread :)))

I don't expect a tie, Tec. As long as your hair is brushed and you've had a shave.

Now that brings me to a subject discussed not long ago in my home. My OH shaves everyday whether we are going out or not. Well he has a beard so not that much to shave but he still does. My son shaves when he verges on scruffy, so does my brother. My other son, being army, keeps his hair short and shaves daily.

Oh dear! Unless I'm going out I only shave every other day:o))

I do wear a tie though: One has to maintain a certain standard. Mind you I don't wear anything else! You've no idea of the problem it causes when I'm out shopping...no pockets to keep my change in :0))

I remember that clip CC, or one very similar anyway.

Older people seemed to have a thing about sitting up straight - I've mentioned this on here before, about mealtimes at my maternal grandmothers, the Welsh one. She was a stickler for manners.
I would spend a lot of time with her. Before dinner I had to go to the bathroom and scrub - followed by inspection - and sometimes sent back.
At the table I had to wear my jacket and tie. The table would be set with starched white table cloth, napkins in rings. Napkin to be tucked into shirt collar when eating. Grace was always said, and she would watch me with one eye half open. Sitting bolt upright was mandatory - or else.
And you didn't dare leave the table until told.
Grandma was one very strict old lady - but I loved her very much.

VERY long arm, CC:-))

So Allan....you're the person I read about on Yahoo7 News:-)) Tut tut - some people don't know how to behave in public.

My OH has told me often about his Gran and her table rules. He told me a story about he and his brother inching their hands closer to a plate of cakes to see who could get the best one first. This was during Grace (funnily enough his Gran's name). All of a sudden a big hand came down and soundly slapped his and his brother's hands. It must have been traumatic because my BIL has told me the same story:-))

We were all expected to sit at the table until we were everyone was finished. We couldn't start eating until mum had sat down. We could talk but no giggling. My children now talk about the same rules so I must have been strict too. Funnily enough my daughter insists on her 3 sitting down at the table for a meal although they eat before the adults.

Only if there was no bag avaiable for the trifle, CC, but fortunately OH makes most of our trifles herself!

Remember, you can run but you can't hide.

Now surely I could make some joke out of that about nylons and leather

I know how to behave , Sue, it's the other few thousand people who don't!

I do have my standards, even if they are substandards! :0))

Is it me?

I fail to understand the last few posts - I shall read that again.

Sorry to dampen the proceedings. Just heard on the news that 2 Australian soldiers amongst other NATO soldiers have been killed. The sentence that brought tears to my eyes - "the next of kin has been informed". Life will never be the same for those families.

CC - please don't add a whip to the mix of nylons and leathers. The mind boggles:-))

We have lost soldiers again this week Sue - I just get so angry - we lost one from N.Wales yesterday, aged 22 with two children.
What a dreadful waste of life. I have very strong views on what is going on, but best kept to myself I think.
My thoughts are always with their families.

pmsl CC: I understood every word!

I wont be devising a new form of communication as I can't handle the one I've already got

I'll just to continue with my vague word associations and occasional pun!
