Allan it would be very interesting for you to eventually get a copy of the book on Fort York - I hope you can get one following publication.
Good Evening CC, The history of the City of London is fascinating - I would love to spend some time in London again, but doubt it will happen. I long to walk along the Embankment again, especially after dark.

Good evening CC I'm glad you appreciate that I am put upun :0))
Sue, my grandfather won't be credited with doing the sketch as it is too early for him to have done it. The sketch is dated 1848 and my grandfather wasn't born until 1860 approx. Also we can't show who the artist was. However the sketch will be shown as being in my ownership. I have been promised a copy of the book when it is published next year. Another New Edition :0))

CC this isn't the sketch of Fort Henry, this is another one just titled Barracks.
However the Curator of Fort Henry did notify the Academic of the existence of the sketch as I sent him copies of the six which were done in the Toronto area.
So far that is two out of six which have a historical value!

Aww Tec - never say never.
CC - I feel fine this morning thank you. The vet adjusted our little dog's medication and says she should be fine but when I said she seems to be "slowing down" he just nodded. So I will cherish her for however long we have her.
Diane sent me a message and she was still up at around 2 am. Yes Diane......I'm telling tales on you:-))
CC - I didn't realise you still had your mum. I'm always aware how lucky I am to still have my mum although she drives me mad at times.

I agree with Tec - surely the sketch must have been done by an ancestor, Allan? Either way you are lucky to have them in the family.

Calm down CC you don't want to start leaving little puddles every where. :0))
The one That I sent you was of Fort Henry with the flag staff and signalling mast combined.
I didn't send you a copy of the Barracks as I didn't place much importance to it.
Now that we know the historical value of the sketch books we will take more care of them.

hello Everyone!
I hope we are all smiling/smiled today!
Still cannot think what that television show was maybe I dream t it. My parents particularly my father was/is a very private person but in later years they have opened up, so it was great to hear their stories from when they were children living through the war.
I cant say how much I am looking forward to the end of this school term. Its all go go go at the moment and I have a lot of assessments to complete. The house moving will be happening in about a months time so I am trying to forget about that at the moment...just a little packing here and there !. The boys also have exams over this week and the next, so they are studying also!

Sue, It was CC who suggested the sketch is probably the work of Allan's ancestor - she's beating me to death here with her walking stick.
The last time I was in London I stayed at the Tower Hotel, overlooking Tower Bridge, and went to a rather posh banquet and cabaret at the London Press Centre. Many years ago I remember driving through London from Essex, through the East End, around Parliament Square, around Marble Arch to visit friends the other side of London. Can't imagine doing that now, would probably stop the car in the middle of the road to have a nervous breakdown LOL.

Tec, when I was in the Army Reserve may of our weekend camps were done at Ash Vale. I used to drive down there and the quickest and shortest route was via Central London.
I avoided it like the plague! The extra 25 miles to skirt round London was well worth it.

Hope you get a chance to take a break and smell the roses, or the coffee. Are you moving far from where you now live?

Good day to you all. Welcome back, Linda. Hope the holiday was up to your expectations and that you thought of us whilst having that “occasional” glass of wine aforementioned.
Allan: I find you comments re the Uni of West Ontario and the Curator of Fort Henry, Kingston interesting. I am trying to trace a family who lived in Kingston back in the 1940’s and 1950’s. So you think your contact over there might be able to supply a website where I might be able to find info on this family? I wouldn’t want to impose and hope that I’m not stretching the friendship in asking for your assistance in this. I’ve drawn a dead end and don’t know where to go from here.
Cheers, Pam.

Pam,
I was given the contacy details of the Curator of Fort Henry by a member of this site who lives in Canada.
Her Board name is JaneyCanuck ad he has been giving me a great amount of help in trying to find my paternal grandfather's life up until the age of 44 when he married my Gran
Although the 1911 census says that he was born in London we can find no trace of him proir to his marriage, nor of his father Joseph. Everything else up to his death in 1930 is documented.
start a Thread on the Trying to Find Board asking for help and giving the basic details and there are several people in Canada who may be able to help. Don't forget to say that it is Kingston Ontario that you are wanting the records for!
If you don't get any response let me know and I will try Janey direct.
Allan
ps if you post now remember that it is 7.50 pm Wednesday 9th in Toronto

I'll post a quick reply on there so that I can also see the progress and, if neccesary, keep it up near the top of the board :0))

Good morning everyone.
Nice to meet you Joan.
I was so tired last night that after I had caught up with a few phone calls, I went straight to bed and slept like a log. I should be bright eyed and bushy tailed, but I still feel tired this morning.
The holiday was "different", we went to our favourite hotel, which was as excellent as ever. Unfortunately we had only been there fro two days, when I started to feel "unwell". I coped for a couple of days, but then had a nice lady doctor come to see me. She stuck a nice needle into me to relieve the symptoms and diagnosed viral gastro enteritis.
That effectively removed one week of the holiday and unfortunately just as I was starting to feel better OH went down with it. I am not blaming the hotel because we had been out for lunch a couple of times and all you need to do is to touch a surface and you can pick it up. Despite our best efforts OH caught it from me, which shows how easily it is passed on.
I could have done without it though, but on reflection it wasn't that bad, - well not in comparison to the time I was in Majorca and spent a considerable part of the holiday in a nice hospital. It turned out that I had Salmonella food poisoning - now that was bad!
It is very good to here about those sketches Allan, it is good to feel that you can make such a positive contribution to the history of the area.

Hello Linda,
That was very bad luck for you both to go down with "Delhi Belly " on your holiday, sorry to hear that, but hope that you're both feeling better now. I was once extremely ill after eating a fish dinner in a very smart hotel in Mumbai (Bombay) and was hospitalised in Singapore a few days later. The perils of eating abroad!!
Joan.........Five Wheelie bins?? I have two - one green for household refuse, one brown for garden refuse. Each emptied once a fortnight on alternate weeks. Whatever do you find to put in five bins? Allan will be green with envy.
Tec.
