Good morning everyone. It is a glorious morning here., amazing that a little bit of sunshine streaming in can lift the spirits so much.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Jun 2010 09:48

No one here, oh well, I shall chat to myself.

Living in a town, I just used to buy my meat from the supermarket, but when I moved here, I discovered the independent butchers selling the locally sourced meat. The difference is amazing, partly because it is well hung as someone else mentioned. The shop I use has it's own bakery behind it where they make their own pies and quiches. The pork pies are fantastic, not that I buy them very often because of the calories. The large ones are excellent all meat and less pastry.

They also make lots of different sausage, real sausages with prime meat in them, not the disgusting reclaimed pink meat sludge which you find in the cheap supermarket ones (shudder). I snip the sausages into bits and use them as ready made meat balls in pasta dishes. They are alos licensed game dealers so I buy venison from time tro time. They usually have rabbits, but i am not keen on them, too many bones.

The North Yorkshire butchers have competitions throughout the year to see who makes the best items, it is all very fiercely competed for, which is good for the customers of course as they are constantly thinking up new recipes

Nearly 10 in the morning and not dressed. Have you made the bed yet?

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Jun 2010 10:00

Of course I haven't made the bed yet. OH was still in it when I got up. He has gone to the gym now, so I am enjoying a lazy start to the day without him tutting because I am on here.

Eventually I will shower, make the bed and i might even clean the bathrooms

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 21 Jun 2010 10:06

I've been ever so busy today. Helped OH wash windows, cleaned the bathroom, polished the dining room table and chairs and the dresser, dusted all the ornaments and made a big pot of soup for tea.

You can have a gold star then young Sue. Time to sit down, put your feet up and open the wine

SueMaid Report 21 Jun 2010 10:16

I've had a glass of Brown Bros cienna. Red, sweet and just a little sparkly. That was an hour ago - now I'll have some soup. OH has heated some bread rolls in the oven and they smell good:-))

AS it is mid morning, I will pass on the soup.
I am busy finding things for Allan, I have found his missing medal card, so I think he will be pleased with me

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 21 Jun 2010 10:24

Good work - Allan will be pleased:-))

I've just received a death certificate of someone who I was sure was my great grandfather. It's wrong - I think. Would an ordinary boot maker become a master pork butcher in 20 years? Possible I suppose but not too likely. He's the fellow who you couldn't find on the 1911 census. Maybe he was in France learning to be a butcher.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Jun 2010 10:40

It is so annoying when you get a wrong certificate. I have two wrong ones for my great grandmother. The annoying thing is that my mother used to go and see her, so I know the area she lived in and the rough time span for her death, but I just can't find the certificate. She isn't buried in either of the graveyards she should be in,so she is an annoying little thorn in my flesh. My mum never liked her either, she said that she wasn't a caring person

I had better get my act together,so speak to you later enjoy the rest of your evening

Poor neglected thread, down on age 2 and no one has been near it all day

It is the longest day today,so it is all downhill from here on

Linda,
That's a horrible thought. Let's enjoy the summer first!
The sunrise looked nice over Stonehenge.

It is indeed a horrible thought Pat, it has been a glorious day here, but I have been volunteering in the Tourist Office all afternoon,so I haven't been able to take advantage of it

Greetings from the Principality,

It has been a glorious day here too, wall to wall sunshine, and very warm.
Just been giving the garden a good soaking, everywhere is so dry.

Having got up at 5 am, it has certainly been the longest day.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Jun 2010 22:22

why did you get up at 5am Tec? Have you taken up talking to bins like Allan?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 21 Jun 2010 22:34

I woke up at 4 am, and by 5 am was so uncomfortable I just got up, walking round the garden at 5-30 - it was very nice really.

They have taken the lambs from the ewes, so there is a terrible noise coming off the mountain. When my daughter heard this last year she was reduced to tears because she thiought it was so sad - silly girl.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Jun 2010 22:37

She is not silly at all, you are just cold and heartless!!!!

I am not looking forward to tomorrow because the plumber is arriving at 8am. We are having a new boiler fitted and removing two water tanks at the same time. I am just praying that they don't get water everywhere and ruin the wooden flooring

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 21 Jun 2010 22:47

Be ready with buckets and bowls. When we had that exact job done a few years ago the plumber forgot to seal off the cold water supply to the bathroom while he disconnected the cold water tank - we had water running through the light fittings in the kitchen below - then he had a message his wife had gone into labour, so he ran away and left us to clear up the mess..................

Sorry to tell you that Linda
