Maybe some contrasting tiles Linda?
Oh heck what do I know - I have been trying to visualise it and am not doing a good job of it - hope your OH does though ( make a good job of it that is).
Berona:
In latter years I was amused that dad would sing I'll take you home again Kathleen" as Kathleen is my MIL's name. He also used to sing Oh My Darling Clementine to my eldest along with Antonio and his Ice cream cart plus : This is the way to the Zoo, the monkey house is over there and I think there is room for you. He also taught her : "The elephants marched round and round, the band began to play, the little boy tickled the monkey's ar*e and had to be carried away."
A friend of my youngest when she was 5 or 6 said I think your grandfather's silly. She said it in front of my dad - he thought it very funny.

Persey xx

You didn't ask me Linda but I think it is Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats when working on a project or anything else for that matter.

Linda, it's an organisational tool and stands for Strengths Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats

You are supposed to make a list of each to see where the organisation can improve

This was one of those rare occasions Linda where Allan was being serious.

Ah thank you for that Perse, I can't cope with Allan being serious.

When the plumbers took the old boiler out, it uncovered some of the original colour of the wall paint, which was there when we moved in. It was a really garish yellow, you practically needed sunglasses to look at it. We changed it to a more tasteful colour as soon as we could. I had forgotten how awful it was

Allan, the trouble is OH only thinks he has strengths......
He should have thought about the Threats part the other day when he decided to drill a hole in a piece of metal without clamping it down. Of course the metal spun away and made a right mess of his finger.

Grr, I can't find Sue's family in 1911, I had looked before, but have been trying again.

Allan, is there anything else I can help you with as I have been on a bit of a roll.I have been digging about trying to find Mary before 1901, but I can't. there is another family in the town with a widowed mother. I have been trying to match them up, but have not got anywhere with that.

Double ouch - met my husband has he.

My OH can have things fall on his head - he will bleed etc but it doesn't hurt.
He had hair transplants done years ago and that area is numb. (gives a whole new meaning to numbskull) He came home one day and said to me about getting them done - it was either that or colour in his head with a black felt tip. Of course now he is grey so black felt would never have worked. He still is bald at the back - he has a rather nice (dark brown with gold thread) kippa which he wore at my youngest's school and it covered the bald spot and looked rather good on him.

Linda,

Unless you can find my paternal Grandfather's early life I don't think so.

Many have tried, including JaneyCanuck, and many have failed, including JaneyCanuck!

I'll post the thread.

I have looked at that before Allan. If Janey can't find him, then there is no hope.

Allan - Thank you very much for the words to that song. Each time I asked my dad what they were, he would say he couldn't recall them 'at the moment'. I really don't think he ever knew them!
I wonder how you know them, since I can't say I've ever heard the song - and I was a teenage expert on all music in the forties and fifties. I knew a lot about the thirties' music too because I had a lot of young uncles and aunts so that song would have had to belong to an era before that.

Linda - If you know of a place which sells used building materials from buildings which have knocked down and rebuilt - or renovations - you might be able to match the tiles you want.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Jun 2010 17:36

Well everything was fine until they turned the cold water back on, then there was water gushing from a pipe in the cupboard under the stairs. It was originally connected to the tank they removed and was supposed to be not connected any more. There was a mad panic to turn the water off and catch the stuff coming out before it got under the oak flooring in the hall and ruined it. That disaster was averted thankfully.
The plumbers then started a massive head scratch while trying to work out just where the pipes went. The original system put in when the house was built seems to have been cobbled together in a really odd way. They did sort it and the new boiler is now working. The hot water pressure is now twice what it was and the showers are now far more powerful.

When i say the boiler is working, the hot water is, they need to come back with an electrician because they couldn't work out how to connect the thermostat for the radiators into the system. Luckily as it is summer we don't need any heating. As I haven't paid them, they are sure to come back quickly.

Now we just need to try and find some tiles. so that OH can box the pipes in again. We only need about six, so we will go back to where we bought them from and see if we can find something similar. They are the type of tile where you have several different colours and mix them up,so we will just have to see what we can do.

Good that you got the job done relatively unscathed. It seems that there always has to be something unexpected where plumbing is concerned. As I do all my own plumbing, including installing my own central heating system, I know all about unexpected leaks and mishaps. The last time I had a proffessional plumber here to take the tanks out and install the new boiler, we had the disaster I mentioned yesterday.
I don't have a stat linked into the system because the layout of the house is not suitable, so each radiator has a stat valve.

I had a busy day - I also did ten laps with the vacuum cleaner CC - stripped the covers off the three seater sofa and washed them, dried well in hot sunshine and a brisk sea breeze. Now the usual fight trying to iron them. Cleaned lots of windows, Made a rhubarb cake while keeping one eye on the football - sorry that South Africa is now out of the competition.

I am available for hire - but don't come cheap - can cook - clean - (thoroughly) - iron - make beds - but fight with duvets - paint and decorate - landscape your garden - walk your dog - be nice to your relatives, and guard your property.

I am clean and tidy, have no unsocial habits - a paragon of virtue.

No man is a paragon of virtue Tec.

You have been busy today,so a nice rest is called for tonight I think.

OH has gone trundling off to the allotment pushing a wheel barrow full of rubble - don't ask.

He is going to give the cupboard under the stairs another coat of paint, then we can put some carpet in it tomorrow. That may seem an odd idea, but for some reason best known to the crackers architect who designed this house, the hot water cylinder was actually in the cupboard under the stairs.
That is why the hot water pressure to the upstairs showers was so poor. We have had the tank removed and a high powered combi boiler put in. The hot water pressure is now as good as the cold (when we moved here we had to learn not to turn the cold taps on too far or the water went everywhere). OH had a shower earlier and said it was now excellent.

We now have an empty cupboard under the stairs to use for storage. As the tank was in there, the wooden flooring in the ground floor of the house didn't extend into there,so it looks ugly now. we have plenty of spare sea grass type carpet in the garage, so we will use that.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Jun 2010 22:10

Very odd place for a hot water cylinder - no wonder the pressure was poor upstairs. We have A Combi-Boiler, very happy with it, and find it quite economical, which is just as well as the LPG gas we use is terribly expensive.

I have a load of rubble to dispose of, but will have to hire a skip.

Tec.
