CC........I've always considered insurance companies to be a necessary evil. Good for you getting your £3 - that'll teach them.
I wonder where Pam and Joan have gone? and Carole?
I'm off to bed now, Enjoy your day Sue, and Allan. Time you were thinking about bed as well CC, and you Diane,

Goodnight Tec - sweet dreams.
Hello Janet - lovely to see you. You've done so well so six months off will be your reward. My youngest - who is 28 - has decided to go to uni and he has just passed his literacy and numeracy exam. He's nervous now as he will be doing a bridging course before starting his course next February. It's a huge decision as he is working too.

That's right - everybody disappear just as I finish reading the posts up to date! Well - good night and good morning to all.
It looked dull, overcast here when I hurriedly opened the back door to let the cat out. She came back in and had a lot to tell me. Not being familiar with cat-speak, I offered her a big stroke from head to tail - and came up with water dripping off my hand! - Sue, don't tell me it's not raining where you are?

Hi Berona - yes it's raining here. Not heavily but a nice rain for the garden.
Janet - my son is going to study biology and then go into environmental science. The uni told him that he can work anywhere with that under his belt.

Hello and goodbye,
Just had a visit from a friend of ours he is over from Canada - he is 84 and is slowly losing it. Last year he was here with his wife and she has since died - even then he kept leaving his things at people's places. He was going to hire a car (that was ok last year) but he is too doddery so his brother is taking him everywhere in the campervan. It was a real surprise to see him - he was in Canada only the other week and never mentioned it. Surprised he even found our place.
We are off out now but thought I would leave you with this:
Subject: Stimulus package It's a slow day in a rural New Zealand Town. The sun is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
On this particular day a rich tourist is driving through town , stops at the local motel and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. He gives him keys to a few rooms and as soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the $100 bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.
The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his drinks bill at the local pub. The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.
The hooker rushes to the motel and pays off her room bill to the motel owner with the $100 ..
The motel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the $100 bill, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the New Zealand Government's stimulus package works.
Cheers all
Persey

Hello all,
Persey: I love it. I think the same thing could probably apply here in Australia too. But I'm just not going to think about these things any more. I'll just do what I can do for me and mine and the rest of them can get along with looking after themselves, too. I am sick to death of hearing all this stuff about the mining industry and their royalties and taxes; and who cares what the PM's rating in the latest polls is compared to the Leader of the Opposition? None of it matters. It's the poll on election day that matters. And, let's face it, most people I know vote for the person in their electorate that they believe is going to do the best job for their electorate. We don't get to vote directly for who's going to be the PM anyway, so what the heck does it all matter? Is this a media conspiracy....... again?????
To all those who are renovating - good luck. I doubt that my renovations will get done because of the torn ligaments in my shoulder. Latest 'best educated guess' emanating from the physiotherapist is that it could take 2 years to mend. There's goes golf, too, sadly. I guess I"ll just have to sell the place cheaper as a renovators delight. Come to think of it. If I don't have to do the painting etc. required I think I would be just as happy to take a reduced price. Provided it doesn't reduce too much.
I doubt that anyone would be here at this time, but I've read all the posts and enjoyed them. I am sorry I haven't been in the last couple of days. Been getting tests and doctor visits done to get more tests ordered. My doc is heading off to London on Friday and won't be back until July 20 so will have to wait till then for the results. I'm sure the time will pass quickly enough.
Cheers to all,
Pam xx

Come on Pam you can do better than that... the doctor should be taking you on holiday with him - tell him it will do your shoulder a world of good.
We are forever renovating Pam - if it is not our own house it is one of our rental properties that is having something done.
~~~~Oh Janet you are a wonder - I hate exams but I always stay the distance. You talk about tutors/lecturers being helpful - I had one lecturer in Labour Relations and we ended up knowing how to land a plane at Wellington Airport. How to load a railroad container properly so it didn't go crashing from one end to the other and very little else. I just had to rely on my own knowledge of the world and I did get an 'A' pass but I felt sorry for youngsters that were doing the paper as they had little knowledge of the working world and the hassles that go with it. Even though I say I hate exams - when I get in the room and start writing - I just keep on dredging up all sorts from the recesses of my mind. Bit like when I get on here - the duracell batteries take over. But it wasn't like that when I was at school - I think as we get older and dare I say it wiser it does actually become easier.
Well now we have just got to draw with Paraguay (ha ha) then it would be OMG - NZ will never be the same and I will give the lads this they do stick together and have played as mates not like other teams that players come from all over and are not always familiar with anothers idiosyncrasies. Think that is why I stay on here with you lot - we can all rattle away and rub along well.
Great thread Sue !!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Persey and Pam - great to see you both. I love this thread for just those reasons Perse - we make a good team:-))
Carole sends her love to everyone. She is having a bit of a tough time at the moment but hopefully will be back before long.
I really hope the Aussie, NZ and English teams give a good show. I can't see any of them getting through but as long as they have good games and play their best I'll be happy.
Pam - I hope you get some good news from the specialist. Torn ligaments do take awhile to heal unfortunately.
Well I have had a brilliant day so far, but i am feeling sick at the moment. just a temporary thing, brought on my spending half an hour getting all of the ice from the bottom of the chest freezer. I have been running it down so that i could defrost it. It is ice free and switched back on again. Once the contents of my head return to their normal position I will be fine.
Pam, you have my sympathies about your torn ligaments. I have had the misfortune to tear my shoulder ligaments, I fell down a hole at 11pm at night. I wasn't drunk, we were having the kitchen demolished and rebuilt and as a temporary measure, the gas cooker was still connected up in the middle of al the rubble. I was aiming for the kettle when I fell in a hole. Extremely painful, I really thought that I had broken my shoulder, it did take for ever to heal. I also damaged some ligaments in my back when i was replacing a bulb in the rear lights on the car. I was crouched down and as I stood up, I felt an awful ripping feeling in my back. I was in bed for about ten days, totally unable to move without pain. I have never broken a major bone, but I am sure that would heal faster.
I hope you have now recovered Linda - upside down with your head in the freezer for a prolonged period is not recommended, especially on Wednesdays.
It is very warm and humid here today, but in contrast to yesterday, I have been incredibly lazy. There is an excuse this afternoon as England are playing Slovenia in the World Cup. 1-0 at half-time, they must do better in the second half. The match does not have the same impact in Wales as it does in England, but we all live on the same island, and I would also support Scotland if they were there. Also I do have one and a half pints of English blood in my veins.
Exams - I always hated them, and suffered horribly from pre exam nerves. My daughter inherited this trait, and would actually be physically sick before leaving for school when doing her O and A Levels. She couldn't speak, and would be a ghastly white colour. Despite getting herself into such a state, she always got the grades she wanted.
Oh well - back to the match - still in front - at the moment - 27 mins to go.
Tec.
Morning/Afternoon all:
Ahh, Persey, I would love a trip to London but, alas, my doctor is a female. A great doctor, too.
Linda: I really think we need to have a better look at the way we organise our life as we get on in years. Now's the time we need those young bodies around to do the things like clean out the bottom of the chest freezer, move the big pots of plants around the place etc. I've always been convinced we live our lives backwards. Wouldn't it be great to be born older and go back to eventually being a baby? Bliss!! But, not to be.
Sue, I must say I'm not really in to football. Comes from having been married in the past to someone who would go to the game then come home and watch every replay of every game on TV. I won't go there more than that but now when I hear a football game coming up on TV or radio I turn it off. But really, I don't think soccer is really a game that attracts the best players here in Aust. Most of those goes to League or Union for the money. And who can blame them? They're young, some just getting married and starting a family so in need of the cash. I just hate the yelling of the commentators and the physical brutality of those codes. Tec, good luck with your game. I do usually look up the scores to see who won what. But tennis and golf watching are more to my liking.
Great to see the young Irishman, Graham McDowell, win the US Open. Wonder if Tigermania will ever be the same again? I sure hope not. He was a lout when he came out here years ago and it looks like the only change in recent times is he's now an older lout. Another 'good to see' though is that the US TV channels are now showing some of his on course bad tempered antics. Good think they don't always have the sound on, though.
Pam.
Well we are through, the pundits are so funny, they have been slagging off the team for days, now they seem to have forgotten that.
I could do with being young again Pam, or at least having my body as it used to be. I am fully recovered from my upside down exertions now.
The reason I had a brilliant morning is that good old Topps Tiles came up trumps and deep in the bowels of their storeroom they found some of the tiles we need. I can't believe they still had any because it was actually four years ago when we first bought them .We redid the kitchen then and bought enough to do the utility (laundry) room as well, though it was only two years ago when OH finally put them on.
I got confused, it was the bathroom and shower room tiles which we changed last year which they had to gather up from their other shops for us.
I really am pleased because OH can now make a new cover for the boiler pipes and replace the tiles so they match the rest of the room. The boiler is a definite success, I had a shower this morning and the pressure was superb.
