Hello Tec!!! How are you? and the duchess too? I'm doing everything I normally do, but living with the soreness of the skin - yet there are no marks left - the soreness is in the nerves of the skin, but at least when I sit or lie down, it hurts until I get into a comfortable position, then the soreness abates - until I move! I'm sleeping without the aid of tablets so far, and it's good if I stay in the one position - but if I move, I'm awake! Nevertheless, I'm getting there - unfortunately nobody can tell me how long it goes on for. To know that, would help.

Grandparents - I am a wonderful wonderful Nana and my OH is called Nudga (he's not too bad either) . I was very happy when my daughter had two girls - wasn't too keen on there being a boy for some reason that eludes me - until young Evan came along and then I put my hand up and changed my mind. We nearly lost him at 6 weeks and he is a lovely little lad.
As for my grandparents - my father's father died when he was 13 and his mother died before he got married. My Mother's mum died when she was four and she was brought up with relatives as her father was a commercial traveler. When she got married he came and asked if he could move in so he was there until his death when I was sixteen. He was a very selfish man and was not someone that one could warm to. So I guess you could say I was a 'grorphan' as far as Grandies were concerned.
I shall be watching for your news Linda - I do feel for her - my eldest when she was carrying the second child spent an awful lot of her time in hospital on a drip in the early stages of pregnancy - she was sick so much she would get dehydrated. The first one - she only had one stay in hospital early on in the piece. With the lad she was never sick.
I was talking to his teacher the other day and she said to me he doesn't like writing much and he has got so many stories going on in his head. This is very true - he also makes a lot of things with his lego and magnet thingies etc - very rarely what is on the box... the other day he made this digestive system - he had it all worked out quite amazing for one who is only nine.
~~~~~~~~ to all those I keep missing - it's just that my aim is not very good of late, I did try to get on here earlier before we went out but failed.
Hello Perse. Don't worry about what time you get on here. I am still sleeping late and missing everyone - but pop in at any time of the day. Have you thought of getting the little fellow a recorder? If he has a good imagination, it could be a good way of capturing his stories, if he doesn't like writing. I don't think any author writes their own stories these days (unless they use a word processor). They just dictate and someone else types it up.
Research in Hampshire Archives? I'm home in Hampshire, after 30 years in Australia. My desktop picture is still the Karri Forest inWA. Next week I'm spending some time in the Archives for Hampshire in beautiful Winchester, looking up parish registers prior to 1837.: two areas Alresford, - West Tisted - Ropley and Overton - Whitchurch. If you have any ancestors you want looked up in those areas please let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Hello Dorothy. Welcome to our thread, which has a mixture of Poms, Aussies, Kiwis, and Ex Pat Brits. You are welcome to join us.
That is a very nice gesture to offer lookups, and there may be some who will gladly take advantage of your offer. Unfortunately, none of my ancestors came from there, but there may be others who would be glad of your help.
Hello Dorothy - welcome to our thread. Thank you so much for your kind offer. I don't have any ancestors in Hampshire - or at least not that I'm aware of but I'm grateful for your offer. Drop in and see us again. We're a friendly lot.
Good morning and welcome to the thread Dorothy.
Update is - no update.
I have spoken to my daughter this morning, she was being monitored and I could here the babies heart pounding away in the background, but the machine is still showing no contractions. She was very tired because one of the other women in the ward was awake and crying and moaning from 2am. They got a doctor early on, who said that the woman was not in labour, so they told her to try and relax and asleep, but she didn't,so no one else did. At 5.30am they finally brought the doctor back, who checked her and said that her baby was coming there and then,so she was rushed off. My daughter said that she felt guilty because all night,she had just been thinking "for goodness sake, just shut up".
I have just been to collect a new shopping trolley, well a second hand one which I bought from Ebay. Every Saturday we buy a large amount of fruit and veg from the market. It got to the stage where we really couldn't carry it,so my children bought me a shopping trolley, bright orange with white flowers on it lol. It has been great, but one of the wheels fell off an OH repaired it, sadly the repair is failing as well, so it was time for a new one. This time I have gone for a four wheeled type because the old one was one of the two wheeled types which you pull. When it was fully laden, it was still heavy to drag along, so I have added extra wheels this time.
I am pleased with the purchase because it is one of the good quality Sholley brand. Luckily it was fairly local,so I was able to collect it and not pay the postage, that suited the seller as well because he didn't have to parcel it up.
Well at least you would have paid the postage Linda, sadly one person on this thread is hopeless with putting the correct postage on items. Having said that said person could probably got you a friendly wheely bin. I have still got my mother's shopping trundler and my kid's were highly amused when I used it - I found it handy when they were young - but they reckoned only elderly women used one and I was only in my thirties -forties at the time.
Hello Dorothy - you won't understand a word I am talking about - but those on here regularly like myself speak bin language and a few other strange rantings as well.
Oh Berona - that would suit him - he could get his older sister to be his secretary - I don't think so!!!
I am doing a Diane - it is the early hours of the morning for moi. Went to sleep early and then wake up a few hours later feeling like I have had a night's sleep - not sure why that happens - If I had gone to bed a couple of hours or so later would have slept all night.
I won't talk about football.
Will mention Rugby though - Tec am sorry about the behaviour of some of the NZ fans here - being aggressive and threatening - going way beyond normal sporting rivalry. The Auckland Welsh club president has been complaining about it and said that Saturday's match at Hamilton it was particularly bad. I am hoping it is just the odd idiot, we all wear our support on our sleeve (especially when we play Oz) but on the whole it is usually good natured rivalry.
Cheers Persey
Hello Dorothy, Welcome to the thread, and good luck at the Hampshire Archives.
Linda I hope your daughter gets a better nights sleep, maybe she can get an afternoon nap to compensate for last night, Although I know that in reality there is never much chance of that in hospital - it's good that she can make a break for it in order to get something decent to eat though. Has your new super trolley got a Turbo Charger? Twin Carbs, and Overhead Cam? - has it got remote control so that you can send it shopping with a note?
Perse, There are always a few hotheads wherever you are in the world. We have our share here at international matches, it's some form of mis-placed patriotism I suppose. NZ hospitality is famous throughout the world, and a few maniacs won't alter that.
Berona, Sorry that you're still suffering when you dare to move. I suppose the after effects of shingles varies from person to person. The Duchess and I are fine thank you. I do tend to get sillier and more stupid as time passes, but then you will have noticed that for yourself. Hope very much that you get more comforable soon.
I wonder if CC has been buried beneath the tarmac?
Tec.
OK, pacing party line up. I have just spoken to my daughter and they have just started the induction. It will take a long time, but hopefully by the morning we will have our granddaughter. Given what happened last night, my daughter is very worried. Apparently the labour wards are very busy so she has to stay on the antenatal ward. That means her partner will have to leave at 8.30pm, so she will have to be on her own. That is very upsetting, but what can you do?
Anyway CC, get the chocolate in the fridge, who is supplying the Champagne?
I'll supply the Champagne Linda, Moet & Chandon?
I expect that news has put you in a daze - try not to get in too much of a tizz. The baby obviously can't wait for her first glimpse of the big wide world. Are you travelling South tonight? Given that you are unlikely to sleep tonight anyway, you might as well spend the night on the Motorway. Seriously, I know everyones thoughts will be with your daughter, grand daughter, and of course the proud grandparents. Take care Linda, and don't flap..........be calm.
I am not having Aussie champagne CC. Moet and Chandon will do very nicely Tec. I have actually been on a guided tour of their caves in Epernay, it was an amazing sight.
We will not go until the morning because the baby will not arrive so soon, it takes us about five hours to get there.
Moet & Chandon it is then, one case or two?
I would image the tour at Epernay would be very interesting. Five hours from your area is not bad at all - it's a good four and half from here to the London area, but it's a 100 miles before we get to a motorway from here. My grand daughter was born in the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, we travelled down from North Wales that day, spent a few hours there, and drove straight back all in one day - couldn't do that these days.
CC........So pleased that you are not under the tarmac - very kind of you to ply the roadmen with water - but maybe they would have appreciated Earl Grey in Royal Albert, with homemade Victoria sponge cake - Hyacinth would have done that for them.
Tec.
Hello everyone, It's exciting times for you Linda! I'm still feeling a bit glum after the demise of the England team. I really did think we could win the World Cup and now it all feels a bit flat.
I think two case would be in order Tec, after all it will have to be shared with everyone on the thread. It is motorway just about all the way,Last time we went down, we made the mistake of going on Friday afternoon and that was dreadful when we got near the end of the journey.
