Allan, That sounds very nasty, and I hope you are not too affected - batten down the hatches.

Tec, my advice to any one buying a house over here is not to buy one on a hill facing west and with very little cover between the house and the Indian Ocean!!

Allan

Tecwyn Report 11 Jul 2010 23:32

Allan I shall heed that advice, says he who lives in a house on a hill, facing West, with not much between it and the Irish Sea/ Atlantic ocean.

The beach being about 500 yrds away.

I've read the book "The Seas in The Kitchen"

The noise of the wind doesn't bother me, but OH hates it.

I much prefer to be in daylight during a storm, at least you can see what's happening around you.

Take care,
Tec.

Tec I've never enjoyed the sound of wind particularly at night (no doubt CC will make something of that remark :0)) )

We've been here for nearly 18 years and still haven't become used to the gales.

Allan,
I actually find the sound of the wind at night quite soothing, and it sends me off to sleep - Whereas OH puts her head under the bedclothes, and hardly sleeps. It really disturbs her.
I have known her take refuge in a bedroom at the back of the house away from the full force of the gale, much quieter there.

Tec, I've been tempted to sleep downstairs on occasions.

The construction of the house means that thoe soud of any wind is much louder and you can hear the tiles moving.

That must be quite un-nerving Allan,
We had double glazing installed some time ago - the company did a very poor job of adequately sealing off the cavity walls around the windows upstairs. Consequently whenever there was a gale the front bedrooms became unusuable as the wind would scream through the gap between the window and the cavity. It sounded like someone vacuuming the bedroom around you. The noise was truly incredible.
I am systematically working my way around the upstairs windows removing plastic trim, and doing the job properly.Tec

Good evening CC.

Thanks for your PMs, I'll do that!

the parrots on the top perches in multi- storey cages are usually more expensive because they are on higher perches

Goodnight Tec - if you're still here to read this. I've just made it again!

Maybe I got up too early. I'm still working out that one about the parrots on the top perches!

I should have known!

Thanks for the p.m., looking forward to the photos - and then, of course, the air ticket. Please don't send the ticket by postage - I'll pick it up at the airport.

Allan

Allan Report 12 Jul 2010 00:43

OK Berona, you can pick up the ticket at the Perth Domestic Airport . It's all arranged :0))

Still not ventured outside yet.

The photos are on the way. There is some duplication as it was the first time that I have used tis particular program to attach the photos. In the past I've sent them as files.

One other explanation. One of the pics is of a tree and there is an area of blue at the bottom of the pic.

The blue is the roof of my car and the tree is a curry tree. I use the leaves to flavour my curries and other indian dishes.

Allan - photos received with thanks. Very nice views and your back yard is a credit to you. Looks like a lot of work has gone into it - and from the look of the veggie patch - still more work on-going. Congratulations.

Tec will be OK with the keg in the gazebo and there is plenty of room around (and on the rock walls) for the rest of us to be comfortable. Did you do the walls too?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Jul 2010 19:22

Thank you Allan for the photo's. All very interesting, and as others have said, there's a lot of hard work gone into that garden. I know from experience how difficult it is to deal with a garden on an elevated site and a slope. The curry tree looks fabulous, and to me, the leaves are very similar to wisteria. I think I spotted a white cyclamen, if so, it's the biggest cyclamen I've ever seen. Well done with the rainbow, and I can clearly see the sand dunes, and the estuary beyond - lovely view. Please tell the handsome cat with the magnificent tail that I would rather have seen his face, than his back - typical of a cat.
The veggie patch looks healthy, in particular the beans, hope you get a good yield, weather permitting.
Thanks again Allan - I enjoyed the pictures of your garden.

CC.....There won't be any time for you to be reclining in the gazebo being waited on with cool drinks, because you'll be serving us chaps with food from the barbie with your pinny on.

Tec.
