Pamela Report 20 Jul 2010 10:14

Hello again all, when you get to read this. It's now 7.10pm so I'm thinking that there will be no-one here.

Thank you all for your kind wishes re my brother. He sounded much better when I spoke to him and that's a relief. He really was quite incoherent the first day I spoke to him when he was in intensive care.

Garbage collection: what a luxury. We have to take our garbage to the tip but the up side of that is that we don't have to worry about cars parking our wheelie bin in and finding it way down the road; nor do we have the noise of the garbage trucks coming around at some ungodly hour of the early morning; lots of pluses but the minuses can be a chore.

I do like Tec's "freecycle" scheme. What a brilliant idea.

I was told that the cars, trucks and utes that come around at council clean up time are often those people who have trash and treasure stands at local markets and yard sales. They especially love it when the clean ups are in the more affluent suburbs. And yes, whoever said it (escapes me who at this moment) it really is amazing what people will pick up and take.

I made a discovery by accident the other day on this thread. I'd spelled something incorrectly in my typing and it was underlined with a red wiggly line. I put the cursor on the work and right clicked and up came a choice of spellings for the word. Clicked on the correct spelling and voila!! it corrected itself. What a great boon for my OH who is dyslexic and is forever asking me how to spell a work or poring over the dictionary, (which is a bit of a waste of time for someone who can't spell). Even in emails it works.

Now, did all you very clever, computer genii know about that already?

SueMaid Report 20 Jul 2010 10:58

Yes Ms. Pamela - I did know that already. I also get a green line to let me know I've used bad grammar. That happens more often than the spell-checker with me:-))

I'm glad your brother is sounding much better and I hope he continues to improve.

Last year a young boy had a dig around the stuff we put out for the council pick-up. He put a load of things - old and broken in most cases - into a bag and rode off. The next day I caught him putting it all back. When I asked him why he told me that his mother didn't want the stuff he given her:-)) Can't say I blame her.

Greetings from Noahs Ark,

Pam I have Spellcheck on my laptop, which is fine for e-mails, documents etc, but it doesn't work on here, as it's not visible on the toolbar.
I notice that my spelling has deteriorated dramatically recently, which is a great source of aggravation as I was always the one everyone asked how to spell this or that. I can't be bothered to look in a dictionary when posting here, and just assume people will know what I mean. I don't mind if they laugh at some awful howlers.
I would put it down to gathering old age, but Berona gets very cross if I use that excuse for anything.
Have a good trip to Sydney.

Sue, I would be most put out if someone returned my rubbish as not good enough. I've put out some very high class rubbish before now :)))

OH embarrassed me last week by asking the posh neighbours if he could take a pallet out of their skip. he wanted the wood for the allotment

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 20 Jul 2010 22:04

Hi Tec and Linda.

Linda - the neighbours won't speak to you now. How very common:-))

Tec - it was old tat and if one of mine had brought home the bits and pieces the lad had taken I would've sent it back too. Amongst other things he took a couple of rusty old cake tins and a battered coffee canister. Funny thing is he left behind some biscuit tins from Christmases past. OH didn't need them for the garage and I was accumulating too many.

Sue, the answer to your question is - absolutely lol

Tecwyn Report 20 Jul 2010 22:08

Good Evening Linda,

I've just had a skip taken away, nobody took anything, which is not surprising as it was mostly garden rubbish and concrete, bricks etc. However, my last skip was all stuff from the house, it sat outside for three days, and nobody took anything either - very embarrassing.

Tec.

SueMaid Report 20 Jul 2010 22:09

Thanks Linda - I'll look forward to your efforts:-))

Tec - no-one took anything out of our skip either. One thing that surprised us and some of the neighbours. A house down the road renovated their kitchen and put out some of their old cupboards. We all thought they would disappear as they are in good condition but not one has been taken. When we had our kitchen renovated OH kept some for storage in the garage.

It is so humid here, we have had some torrential rain since late afternoon. We lost the Satellite tv signal earlier on. It has stopped raining, but there was a large flash of lightening a few minutes ago

I have to go out for half an hour - OH is putting his car in for a service. Don't go away - I shall return.

Hello people : )

I hope you haven't been washed away Tec ....I looked at the rainfall radar and it seems all of you in the west are getting a bit hammered .....not so much as a drop yet in Norfolk : (

OH and I stayed on our boat last night ( fishing ) , he caught the biggest Eel I've seen so far but I won this fishing session because I caught a Plaice this morning ( he wouldn't let me put it back and it's now lurking in the fridge ).

All this chat about skips has reminded me , years ago , as I was going past a skip I spotted a sad Gnome , he was flakeing his paint and a bit pitted with age.....I tried to resist the urge but couldn't , so , I scurried back and rescued him . I gave him a lick of paint and named him " skipper crumbly " .....he lived on my living room shelf for years and do you know .....I have no idea where he is now ! ....lol

CC.....What are you going on about ?

Jimmy Edwards,
Dick Bentley,
Little Red Monkeys

Have you been at the wine gums again?

Hi Amanda, Well done with the fishing. We have them swimming past the windows - the biggest pike I've ever seen just fell down the chimney - maybe, just maybe, it may stop raining tomorrow.

Please tell me you don't collect gnomes - CC is a world authority on gnomes, she has thousands of them everywhere.

Linda - How rude of me - I forgot to say how lovely your garden is - it looks very orderly, while mine is, well, chaotic I suppose by comparison.
Is that lovely tree a larch? beautiful anyway.
