Sweet dreams Linda .

Hello Tec and CC............no , I am not a collector nor indeed a great admirer of Gnomes..........it was just this particular one that somehow struck a cord with me ( ever the sap for the under dog .....lol ) .

There isn't a single Gnome in my garden ......but I do have a large " Pan " statue out there ( he used to be in my Mums garden and resided with me since she passed away ) .
Linda's garden sounds wonderful : )

Allan, Actually No 1 Cat may consider it far to familiar of me to say Hi, better amend the to "Good Morning Sir" as befits his status.

CC....I will look that up tomorrow.

Amanda, I'm not terribly keen on garden ornaments, but recently when viewing at an auction room, I saw five figures out of Wind In The Willows, about 30 inches high, and very well done. I would have had them, but they went for an amazing ammount of money that I couldn't justify on garden ornaments.

I'll pm you my e-mail address CC . I can vaguely recall a conversation about the Purple People Eater but it was quite some time ago . I wouldn't mind a listen , it might jog the old grey matter ....lol

Tec ....the Wind in the Willows figures sound lovely . My " Pan " was purchased by my Mum because he reminded her of the " Piper At the Gates of Dawn " chapter from that very story : ))

I've only got him and a stone " Whippet " ( as I have three Lurchers ) . And also a very old bird bath that my Grandparents bought back from their honeymoon in Dorset .

Good morning Sue

CC, take a leaf out of your own book (this is advise you can either take or leaf) and dispense some of your sound common sense to your own problems :0))

My goodness - some of you people can talk (and talk and talk). I have been here for 36 minutes and have just caught up! Missed Linda again. I'll have to try later, when her Wednesday starts.

Clear sky and sunny here with forecast for 'possible showers' which probably won't happen, and a high of 16. That's still good for mid-winter.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Jul 2010 23:43

Sue, Did you jog back from the garage? -that would have warmed you up lol.

Amanda, That's interesting about Pan - I like lurchers, always had dogs, mostly labradors. Have an elderly black lab now, but he's still a handsome dog, and my shaddow.

Tec.

Amanda - northern areas of Australia don't really get cold just cooler. We are on the east coast and also have the mountains behind us. We get winds coming down the mountains from the snowfields so it can get very chilly at times. Having said that it will probably get to 15 - 16 degs. today which is cold for us but not a winter's day for you.

I have a few ornaments in the garden. A dove, a turtle, a frog and a possum sitting on a log. Also a bird bath that you saw in the photos. On the verandah I have a kookaburra ornament as we quite often get a kookaburra visiting us if he thinks there's any food available.

Tec - I did not jog back from the garage. It's a 5 minute drive and a half hour walk.

Hi Amanda, believe me it gets cold here in WA.

Some towns inland ars currently having overnight temps of -5c.

We came out to Oz in June 1982 as the Oz winter temps seemed similar to the UK summer ones.

I've never been as cold in my life, and the rain!!

Downpours were called 'showers'

Although over the years the winters have become drier which has led to severe water shortages!

Labradors are lovely but I've never owned one ( the nearest I got to that was the old boy we had when I was a child , he was lab x boxer and a laugh a minute ) .
We have three Lurchers at the moment and they are splendid dogs , no trouble at all , apart from when they get each other going and all bark at once .....the noise can loosen ear wax !! ...lol

CC - this was probably before your time - but there used to be a British radio show called "Take it From Here" with Jimmy Edwards, Dick Bentley and Joy ??. Dick and Joy were two of the earlier Australians who succeeded overseas. (I'll think of her other name later I suppose).
In one very popular sketch which was featured in each show, Dick played the role of dopey Ron and June Whitfield was his girl-friend, Eth.
The Goon Show was popular at the same time - but I think a lot of those shows faded out once TV replaced the radio for night-time home entertainment.

Hello Allan ......I've never been out of Great Britain , so it's easier for me to just imagine the " stereotypes " for various countries climates ....lol

It's amazing how much difference a few degrees of latitude can make . We stayed with a friend in Scotland a few years back , in late August and it was starting to look like Autumn there......when we traveled back to balmy Norfolk a week later it was still Summer..........most bizarre .

Sue .....I have to confess to a few frog ornaments ( round the pond ) that I had forgotten to mention ....lol

Hello Berona - I hope you are well.

CC - we don't feed the birds regularly as we don't want to be their main source of food. Especially when they have babies as they need to learn to hunt their own food not wait for us. One of our neighbours used to feed the kookaburras by hand. He has passed away now but we have a beautiful photo of him on the back verandah surrounded by kookaburras.

Allan Report 21 Jul 2010 00:02

Hmm! Berona, I remember that radio show, but of course when I heard it it must have been a repeat!! :0))

Amanda, as Sue has said the Northern parts of Australia are warm and in winter many of the so-called Grey Nomads (retirees) take of with their caravans or mobile homes for sunnier and warmer climes. In WA Broome is a very popular spot.

We also have some frog ornaments in the garden.
