Sue, you are right in not making a regular thing of feeding the birds. I read that they don't drink until they are almost desperate, then they need to know where they can get water quickly - so if people leave water, bird bath, etc. for them, they should make sure that it ALWAYS has water in it, or the birds could be in trouble. Also, if bread is left out for them, it should be wet so that it swells before they eat it, instead of when it gets to their insides. Again, as you say, it shouldn't be too regular or they become like domestic pets and don't know how to find food.

Goodnight Tec - sweet dreams.
We have a number of birds visiting the bird bath especially in summer. We were told to put a rock in the centre of the bath so the small birds can get out again. We have little blue wrens and I guess they could easily drown in a big bath.

Yes Sue - they come in all sizes. I never had much water in my bird bath, thinking of the little ones. I had to keep watch on it though, in the hot weather - and make sure it didn't dry out.
I had a bath with a 10inch garden around it, edged in stones and a large ice cream dish of water under the garden tap for the cat. It was common to see the cat standing full height with her back feet on the stones and front feet on the edge of the bird bath - having a drink of their dirty water (after they bathed in it!) - and then I would see a few birds on the thin edge of the dish - drinking the cat's water. Maybe I should have put signs on them!

lol Berona, the signs wouldn't have been of much use if the respective animals couldn't read, or would you have used pictures? :0))

That's right CC. Joy Nichols - her dad was on the stage here in Oz before that - but that was even before MY time! I saw Jimmy Edwards on the West End stage in 1953. I did it all from memory but I knew it wasn't Joyce. I liked Joyce Grenfell as Miss Gossage in St.Trinians ("You can call me Sausage"!) and Alistair Sim played an excellent dual role.

We used to listen to the Glums, Take it from here etc and then we used to have Dad and Dave and Nino Culotta stories from OZ.
My parents had family friends Ron and Ethel so there were always ooooooooooh Ron and What Eff? Jokes going on when we were all together at parties and knees up occasions.
I used to also like watching Alistair Sim in "Misleading Cases" with Roy Dotrice.
No frogs in our garden Allan - got several garden owls though. When I was running my bookshop Gladys a pensioner used to tell me about her Garden Gnomes and how her husband would load them all up in the wheelbarrow to mow the lawn and then rearrange them in different groupings from what they were before. They were a delightful couple not very tall and yet they had three strapping big blokes for sons - she brought me in a photo of them.
CC - my computer cache, cookies, temp files are permanently empty - I have this smarty pants Russian security program that whips them away and I have anti ads, anti phishing (so I don't net anything in my cache) antispam etc all on the go the same time as me. That works really well, unlike when I was at work - I would be forever clearing out my cookies but there were others that worked there that didn't even know what they were. I used to get on their PCs and do a clean up from time to time.
Builders here today rebuilding our back bathroom/laundry - new bath new walls etc after my husband managed to bang nails through the wall from the outside when doing the replacement weatherboards. He also managed to bang a large nail through the loo water pipe - I was out there with him holding up my end of the weatherboard (like you do) and the next thing it was ohhhh sh** and he took off - running around to the front to turn the water off.
OH going to have his other eye done tomorrow - don't think it will improve somethings though - the other day he was pushing the coffee plunger down on the kitchen bench and wondering why the squirty hand soap was not dispensing.
Hello Amanda It gets very cold here in the winter but not too bad where I live. It's the damp that's bad here - makes the cold get into your being more... and then it is the humidity in the summer that is the bad one.
Pleased to see you back the other day Carole when I was trying to read the thread - my cold has been a bit of nark - has meant no reading much - my eyes have been watering like mad... Now I am just down to keeping awake with incessant coughing at night other that that she'll be right.
Love to all Persey

Hi Persey - sorry you're not feeling great. Hope you feel better soon.
So 41 years ago today I was with a group of schoolfriends watching the men land on the moon at a friends house - we were allowed to go home and watch it on telly. Her Italian father walked in and said "no no they no go ona da moon - it's lika da movie". Now there are people who agree:-))
I did some serious housework this morning, then prepared some Mexican chicken enchiladas for tea. Not my favourite but the men like it. I also cooked up some more pea and ham soup because it disappears as soon as I make it. In fact I've been quite the domestic goddess today:-)) It won't last.
I hope you Poms all wake up to a nice sunny day.

Hello
Sue Nigella Maid Lawson.
We have the odd drop of pea and ham but mostly it is either seafood chowder or a mushroom soup. I personally go for Asparagus but himself is not so fond of it. I am more of a Gordon Blue cook - it's only my name that has the goddess persona.... but I am probably more of a myth than a legend.
Myth from Styx eh Allan?
Good morning Montgomery hope you are eating your carrots for Tec.
Cheers
"Nerse Purse" who is about to administer drops to himself's eyes. xx

Good evening, though as it is early, no one will be around. We have had a busy day. i spent half the morning sitting in the hospital with OH. When he got some new glasses a couple of months ago, the "puff test" showed that the pressure in one of his eyes was slightly high, which could mean glaucoma. He was referred to the hospital because the level at which they have to refer has come down recently. The optician said that the hospital is going crackers because their eye clinics are being overloaded. Any way better safe than sorry,so I took OH as he wasn't allowed to drive after the drops. In the end, the result was that his pressure is on the higher end of normal, so he just has to come back in six months. Anyway we had a mooch round the town and had a nice lunch. Then we spent the afternoon on the allotment, it was nice and sunny, although it has been raining again this evening.
Someone asked what the tree was, it is a slow growing Cedar tree which we planted ten years ago.

Hello everyone:-))
Linda - I had my eyes tested not long ago and I hated the puff test. At least the clinic will be keeping an eye on the problem. Ha ha.....and "eye" on the problem. Get it?

Hello Persephone...nice to meet you : ))
CC ....I tried to follow your " fool proof " instructions and opened Windows Media player ok ....went to the media library to be confronted with a huge number of songs ( some with titles that made my hair stand on end !....lol ) seems my " kids " know how to use the programme ok ( I'd never ventured onto it ) . I became confused and rather than go into " manic button stabbing mode " .....I closed it down and shall go back to my original plan of crying " please help your poor Mum ".....when I manage to catch one of them at the right moment .
We had a smattering of gentle rain this evening but it's fizzled out again . I do hope poor Tec hasn't been washed away , I believe it's been tipping it down again in the West .
Lida ...we where at our allottment today ....carting cans of water and wilting in the noon day sun . I hope your OH is ok.
Edit to say GOOD MORNING : )) to Sue x

We have no water on the allotment Amanda. We collect it in barrels from the greenhouse roof. We only water the things in the greenhouse and any new plants we put out. After that, they are on their own. Luckily we have had lots of rain over the last week
