Persephone Report 22 Jul 2010 03:48

We have lots of sheep shearing/mustering jokes that go round here in NZ - Tec - My dad was a dab hand at shearing (old style with the clippers not the zippy electronic things of today) he could also shod the horses - When we were at the Fencibles Cottages the other weekend they had a Smithie working there making horseshoes.

OH is not so chirpy this arvo - first eye went well but this one is aching and causing some irritation so he has gone for a lie down. He will be able to see again tomorrow and won't be suffering from whiplash whenever we pass a nice looking young woman in the street.

I now have one of my Genes setups so it comes on directly to the Aussie pages... hope that stays intact in the meantime have lost all my e-mail address history - normally when I type L - I would get Linda or Lisha or Lionel etc now nothing - I have to go and find an e-mail of theirs and copy address. Guess it will all gradually accumulate again but is annoying.

I come in via the Brits site CC - I have better luck with it than the Kiwi one.
Now if I can just get the tree situation sorted - I can get my tree no problem but when I went to see whether my cousin had put in info I had given him his tree was still loading 20 mins later.

I never ate chicken till I was 17 - found I had to as it seemed to turn up nearly all the time on aeroplane meals when I was travelling. I won't touch a chicken sandwich etc in a café - I wonder how long it has been sitting there.

OH loves his Cumberland etc book - lots of his ancestors are mentioned in the book. I see he has also got a two volumed little book set on Isle of Mann - they are in there as well. Stenhouse Manor is part of his family history and that is where his parents were when the spotted the lead being pinched off the roof. We have all these very regal pics of his "ancients" - he is really steeped in British History. Docking Hall in Norfolk is one of his as well - some of his old mates still call him Docking - they all had Squires and Earls titles when they were at Teacher's Training College.
I would be lucky if I could find a rock carving in a cave or a raupo hut with my ancestory.

Cheers Persey

Berona Report 22 Jul 2010 04:35

Hello Perse - What's your weather like? We had 1degree pre-dawn to-day. It looks lovely out now - nice and sunny - until we go out there - and that air is cold! It should get to 16 but if it does, it won't last for long. I had my aircon on for longer than usual this morning. Turned it off at 11am. It is now 1:30pm and I would like to turn it on again.

CC - Leave Tec alone. If he wants to send me flowers, diamonds, chocolates, etc. - he can. Don't forget, I saw him first, and we have a long-standing dance arrangement, just as soon as we get our cruiser.

Tec - you shouldn't mind the sounds of roosters and sheep - it must make you realise that you don't live in the city. Now, if it was the sound of motors and the smell of exhaust fumes - you would have something to complain about!

Persephone Report 22 Jul 2010 06:23

You tell her Berona it takes two to tango - there can't be a third person - you would get all tangoled up.
Weather is bleak and has been raining and whenever the sun comes out we get excited and rush about.
Down in Alexander they get hoar frosts and your washing does look silly on the line - have to let it thaw or else it will break in two or three etc.
Queenstown had their coldest day ever a few weeks ago. Auckland can get the 1degree pre dawn - but I stay snuggled. They will record the weather in Albert Park in the city for some reason and who is going to get up before dawn to find out that yep it was -2 degrees this morning. Their other favourite place for temperature recording is the airport - but I guess that is fair enough - it is not usually the cold that stops the flying it is the fog and in Wellington the wind velocity is also a factor. I was at Melbourne airport once - was going on to Tasmania and that day all flights to Auckland and Christchurch were cancelled because of our fog/wind.

When I used to go and stay down on the farm - I would be woken by the rooster, chooks. ducks, geese and turkeys - they would all wander in over the cattle stops and waddle around the perimeter of the house making a right hue and cry. They liked their porridge early.

Well must rattle my dags and cook him some kidneys for his tea. ( I am not a fan of them unless it is steak and kidney)

Hi Persey - always good to see you. I hope your OH is feeling more comfortable soon.

CC - I don't need chocolates, flowers and diamonds. Who am I kidding? I love chocolates, flowers and diamonds so bring them on:-)))

I've had an email from our Carole. Things are starting to look up and Carole is feeling much better. She sends her love to all.

Love to Carole and Dianne , I hope you are both better soon.
It is very windy hear this morning and it seems cold out there. I am listening to a rooster crowing as I type. It is in the grounds of the large hall which is next to us. It doesn't crow at dawn, just during the day,so that is fine.

This house is built on land which used to be part of the rectory garden, so we are only about a hundred yards in a straight line from the church, although the road wiggles round, so it is a bit longer that way. Written into the deeds of the house is that we are not allowed to keep livestock, we are not allowed to turn it into a place of amusement, hotel, tavern, inn or public house, nor shall any spirituous or fermented liquors be sold on the property. Also that we are not allowed to do anything to disturb the incumbent while he is conducting a church service.

They are just a few of the things which we are not allowed to do. The church are real spoilsports

Just a quick comment while most people are doing other things.
I do know a millionaire (in Aussie dollars). Most of it is in an apartment and a small house in the North Sydney area. Sure, she is worth a million, but you can't eat property. When the GFC hit, the slump in the value of her superannuation fund reduced her income by $150 a month. Not easy to take.
I also like chocolates but they are well off my diet now. Not into jewels, but rubies, emeralds and sapphires cam be very nice.
I can cope with the puff test for glaucoma. The problem is what to do about it if you have it. I don't imagine being blind is very nice, but think it would be worse to be deaf.
I will away now, the pooter battery needs charging and for some obscure reason it tends to crash and shut down when on the charger.

Hello Colin and Hello Janet and of course the rest who are always around. And cuddles for Eve - tho I will have to wear a mask.
I don't care for Diamonds, flowers last longer in the garden, chocolates are very bad for me..... bricks and mortar, or good solid weather boards that's me... and lots more travel than I do and of course lots of café outings and lots of reading keep me happy. I would happily give up my vacuum cleaner, duster etc for lots of travel.

I hope you really like your new job Janet !!!!

CC - I had it where the names just popped up as well but now they have popped off somewhere else entirely and not taken me with them. That is very disappointing.

Drops time and my bed time so maybe after eye clinic and a trip to a coffee shop I will get to come on here tomorrow. Have to type in a room full of demolition rubble and reconstruction - feel a bit like Percy Sugden making Custard under the barrage of bullets.

Good Evening CC, and Linda,

Giftsof diamonds and other expensive gifts...........

Well - flattered as I am, and much as I think you're all adorable, a gentleman would never put a married lady in a compromising position. I wouldn't want to be seen as some old philanderer showering you girls with these gifts.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Jul 2010 22:27

The Duchess wears her diamonds and if I get that close, she bites, but there are a couple of tiaras hanging around if you want, but you would look a bit odd in Tesco wearing a tiara I think.
