Hello CC......
The Duchess and I are quite well thank you, her Grace keeps herself entertained by taking pot-shots at the staff with the 12 bore she keeps beside her armchair. Which is why I'm always advertising for staff.
The men in white coats have not come for me. I often look around at the rest of humanity and come to the conclusion that actually, I'm the only sane one left.

Sorry I took awhile to get back .....the phone rang as soon as I posted . We have a new phone , a horrid cheap and nasty thing that I had to buy in a rush ( long story that isn't very interesting ) .....it makes the MOST ghastly noise , bit like a cross between a fire alarm and a personal attach alarm , it's really alarming when it erupts into life ...lol
I'm well thank you CC and nothing planned for the week-end , plans usually go awry in my household , so I've learnt over the years that it's pretty pointless making any .....I just go with the flow .
Tec ......the roses have had a good year in my garden , which is nice , as I'm not very good with them in general . Long may your new one flourish . " Your " beach sounds lovely , a hidden jewel perhaps ?
We will be besieged with holiday makers soon ....I'm not looking forward to our shopping day ( Monday )......kids have just broken up from school and the bewildered holiday folk will be causing havoc in the supermarket no doubt ....lol

Hi Amanda,
Talking of phones - I recently converted an old 1950s black bakelite phone, the one with the chrome dial that you stick you finger in to dial a number. It hasn't got a memory, or any of the gimmicks of the modern Mickey Mouse ones, but the "ring" is great, and it looks good sitting on a large antique pine chest.
I bought ten bare root roses from a specialist rose grower in April, and it seems it has been a good year for roses. The magnolia tree is just flowering again - it always flowers twice a year, April, and August.
Our beach is mostly shingle and pebbles - the sand seems to come and go - we get grey seals down there occassionally, usually in February/March.

Shingle beaches are the best...........but I would think that as my parents where always looking for nice stones to make into jewellery when I was a kiddie and the habit of being on the look out for a Carnelian has never left me .
I think CC , that everyone always gets the trolley with a mind of it's own and a wayward wheel.............they are created that way in the hopes of steering us to products that we weren't looking for.

The phone we had before was a " big button " phone . It had been my Mums and when she passed away I took it over . I liked the big buttons ( I really ought to visit an optician ) they made life a bit easier . My brother has several old phones ( he has bought on e-bay ) , he being the traditionalist that he is......perhaps I ought to ask him for one of them .

Hello Diane,
Well what a nice surprise - It's lovely to see you back on the thread - is it really five months, wow that went quick. So pleased many things have got easier for you, lets hope things stay that way. I know you have been following the thread, so will know we're all as potty as ever. As I said, it's great to see you back among us.
I'm a traditionalist Amanda - my daughter is very scathing and says I should live in a museum, I just like old things.

Welcome back Diane .
CC .......I haven't have a chance to pin on of my off spring to the PC yet ( only one of the four still live at home and she is fairly elusive........lol ) but I will eventually get one of them to help .
A geode is indeed a stone with crystals inside it but I think they are generally quite bit and the ones my Dad used to buy had to be cut in half with a diamond saw............that thing really made a vile noise that went on for hours.
It sounds like the one you found might be quarts crystals . I do rather like stones.....they are very " there ".....if you know what I mean ?

We are ALL living history CC..........links in our chains : ))
I'm something of a traditionalist myself . I tried being a technophobe but in the end a PC was bought into the house and I was lured into the sticky web by.........................family history.........lol .
Now they moan because I'm always plugged into the machine......but I do have a passion for the past and much prefur old things to new ones.

I confess Diane ....I haven't read back through all of this thread ( could be one of the tasks of Hercules .....lol ) ........but it's nice to " meet " you anyway .
CC ..... now that you have mentioned Fort William the Amethyst comment makes more sense to me . The top of Scotland was originally a bit off another continent I believe ( when God was a lad and before the Vikings ....lol ).......it's the only area ( the top of Scotland ) that it is possible to find that semi-precious gem in GB : )) I'm so pleased that I took in some of the knowledge my Dad tried to impart to me........he knew a thing or two , bless him , but he didn't half drone on sometimes........lol

Diane, Sorry the weather hasn't been so good on your holiday. We did have sunshine today, and one very heavy shower, but it was warm.
Amanda, I've always found polished semi-precious stones fascinating, I used to have a collection of various stones and minerals, but gave them away to a nephew. I do have a large Ammonite, cut in half to show inside. It's from the Jurrassic Beach in Dorset, 163 million years old - when CC was a girl lol.
I don't think you are a dinosaur CC, not really, not quite. I did answer your question re living history, but forget what I said, I think it 2150.

Your right Amanda it would be a mommoth ordeal to read back on the thread, but you will have seen a lot of the peep's waving to me as they leave the the thread or telling me to get to bed, as they know me of old, like CC I tend to stay up quite late and when I'm at work it is not a good idea as I am up for work at 5-40am.

Hello me lovelies? Are you behaving?
Well well.........our Diane is back:-)) How nice to have you back.
Amanda I wouldn't go back over the thread - over 20,000 posts is a lot of reading and you'll run off screaming knowing that we are all truly crazy.
I'm a tourist everywhere I go in the UK I guess. When I'm in a shop or cafe etc. I only have to open my mouth and everyone stops talking and turns around to look at me. It's the Aussie accent, cobbers. It is a great conversation starter and when we were last over my brother came with us and we had many a lively chat with people who all knew someone here in Oz.

Please don't expose the Myth of giants as piffle CC.......I rather like the idea of them having shaped the landscape : )
Now , are you certain the stone your MIL gave you is Amethyst ? There is a stone called " Blue John " that my Dad was always banging on about , and if my memory serves me correctly it was from that region and only that region whence it came ?
You just made a clever jump to " fossils " there didn't you Tec ? .....lol....different subject altogether and I'm not brave enough to get involved .....lol
