No one asked for your opinion Miss Susanwithnumbers:-)))

Hello everyone:-)) Hope you are all well.

I had a bad night's sleep the other night so woke up late and headachy and didn't feel up to chatting yesterday. I did read some of the posts, sorted my emails and had another lie down. Feel fine today.

We've been on the North Yorkshire steam train. My BIL called it the "rhubarb and custard" train because of the colouring. We went from Grosmont to Pickering where we had lunch in a lovely pub and then travelled back. We've been to Goathland a few times. Whitby is one of my favourite places in England.

Just another useless fact to throw into the ring

Whitby Abbey features in Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'

I also found some slides I took of the Abbey and Whitby over 30 years ago, when I was sorting through my collection prior to transferring them to the computer.

CC - we had lunch in the Aidensfield Arms. We had huge Yorkshire puds filled with sausage and onion gravy. Lovely - but I couldn't finish mine. It was a shame because they had sticky date pudding on the menu and we were too full to have some.

Allan - I have a photo that my uncle's wife gave me of Whitby with the Abbey in the background that was taken in 1949. Aunty's father was an amateur photographer.

Good morning Sue, I am glad that you are feeling better.
I need your permission to go AWOL for a few days. We are going to see little Eve tomorrow afternoon and won't be back until Sunday evening, but we are going straight to A Yorkshire day party when we get back,so I won't be in until late. I am taking my lap top, but won't have much time to chat

The swing bridge in the centre of Whitby has been stuck open since the beginning of the week, It has cut the town in half and is causing huge problems

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Jul 2010 22:53

Not toad in the Hole, that is different Allan. Lots of places do large Yorkshire puds with the rest of the meal in the centre of them.

Well of course you can go visit our Eve. You have to give her a huge hug and kiss from Aunty Sue:-))

Hello Allan - I thought the joke was funny:-))

It's a shame you didn't stop at Whitby CC - it really is a lovely town. The last time we went they were raising money for the coast patrol and they put on a great show including a mock rescue by helicopter. My brother was with us and he loved it.

Sorry to disagree Linda

Toad in the Hole in my recipe books is sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding batter and served with Onion Gravy.

Just saw your post Allan - I think toad in the hole is different. This was a huge yorkshire pud with sausages and gravy placed in it rather than the sausages put in a pan and covered in batter and baked.

Is "League of Gentleman" the comedy with all the creepy people?

sue has it Allan, in toad in the Hole, the sausages are inside the batter mix.
The large Yorkshire puddings which are the size of a dinner plate are cooked on their own. then all manner of things are piled into the middle, sometimes things like mash and minced meat

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Jul 2010 23:02

You can't watch the League of Gentleman sue, it is only for "local people"

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 28 Jul 2010 23:05

When I was a child - a few short years ago - my mother would make yorkshire pud in a big pan with the juices of the meat. This was sliced up and served before the main course. Then we would have the roast meat and vegies.

No I am not from Derbyshire CC, but lots of OH's ancestors come from there

Having the Yorkshires first was a way of filling people up to make the meat eke out, it was always that way in Yorkshire

Allan

Allan Report 28 Jul 2010 23:12

It seems as though with one of those Yorkshire Puddings there's no need for a plate!

Saves on the washing up.

I'd honestly never heard of Yorkshire Pudding being served that way

I believe That Sue's childhood memory is the Traditional way of eating the pudding.

I love Last of the Summer Wine although we didn't have any of the early episodes. The first ones we saw were the last of Compo's episodes.

We've been to Holmfirth. A nice town although I understand that like Heartbeat the show isn't filmed in the one place. I have a photo of moi standing on Nora Batty's stairs. She was my favourite in the show and I'm sure is sadly missed.

good morning Allan and sue

Good evening Linda, if I haven't said it already, but I think I did before I went awol.

good evening Suewithnumber's

I have now finished eating and sorting the washing and then spent some time catching up on the post.

Unlike evryone else here I have never been to Whitby or the surrounding area so have no idea what it is like other than what I saw on Heartbeat.

Linda sound's like you have been busy again with all your cooking and pickleing. When you go and see Eve also give her a big hug from her auntie Diane.

Allan how are you and your Oh today.
